Fixtures for the weekend

Tomorrow: 4th division away to Tramore, kick off 7pm.
2nd play 3rd here with the lads well capable of upsetting the big guns. A solid performance last Sunday against a very good Ferrybank side should stand to the golden oldies tomorrow evening.

Saturday: U11 Blue Squad away to Kilmac, kick off 10.30
Kevin Kennedy and his merry men have this squad playing some magic football and have really progressed in every game.

U11 Orange squad home to Abbeyside , kick off 10.30
Trevor Murphy will be hoping to build on decent displays against DLS the last time out and will be boosted by the help from the academy players aswell.
U13 home to Kilmacow, kick off 12.30
After their first win of the season, a derby match I’d just what these lads need. Confidence is growing with these lads every game even when results weren’t great but Mick Conway and Victor Bailey have done good work with the squad, so fingers crossed they can avenge the u14s loss from last weekend.

4th division result: Mooncoin Celtic 0 Ferrybank 0

Stalemate in Ashgrove this morning between 2 evenly matched teams.

It took a few minutes to settle in today and it was Ferrybank who had a good chance after 10 minutes but Barry Hearne stopped with his legs. We eventually got the ball down and eventually got a hold on the game. Some of the passing and final ball in to attack was delightful to watch. Neville Synott was a constant thorn in their side all day. We were possibly denied a penalty when Brendan Bradleys shot was stopped by a defenders arms in the 6 yard box. Daragh Beagan was inches away from scoring from a header but just missed out. Both teams hit the cross bar in the second half but overall a fair result.

Best on show Scoby, Neville and Mickey Comerford.

Two well organised teams.

U 12 result: Ferrybank B 2 Mooncoin Celtic 3

Since this fixture was announced this squad have been putting in a massive effort in training and it truly payed off. We came into this game missing a couple of key players but it showed the strength this squad has with a few changes at the back the defence was strong and kept Ferrybank to very few chances in the first half.

A great save from Jake Moore seen the ball rebound out to a Ferrybank player and seen us go behind. But not the first time this season we went into the break 1-0 down but the pure determination and desire of this team seen us come running out of the blocks in the second half and we’re well on top with a goal on the horizon. Emily Blackmore came on at half time and put the Ferrybank defence under great pressure with her pace down the wing and it eventually payed off as the ball was deflected into the air and seen Aidan Carroll get his head to the ball and knock it into an empty net to make it 1-1.

We kept pressing Ferrybank while playing some lovely football the second was always on the way. The pure determination and excellent work rate from Aidan who covered every corner of the pitch seen him grab a second to put us in the lead. With Michael Cronin, Patrick Dermody and David O’Shea holding strong at the back there was still very few chances for the home side and we eventually found ourselves in the promising position of being 3-1 up. The ever present and captain for the day Eoin O’Callaghan added to his goal tally for the season and seen him make it 3 goals in 3 games in what was a superb performance from him on the wing.

Ferrybank made it 3-2 late on and put us under a lot of pressure but a few changes to our formation to strengthen up the back seen us hold out and take all 3 points. Great credit to all kids involved yesterday what a superb bunch of kids coach. Team ; Moore, Cronin, O’Shea, Dermody, O’Callaghan (C), Carroll, Croke, Dunphy, Wall. (Subs) Cuddihy, Blackmore, O’Keefe, Byrne, Herron. Scorer : Carroll (2), O’Callaghan.

2B Result: BOHEMIANS FC 1-4 MOONCOIN CELTIC.

It was a bitterly cold night in Wadding park tonight but that did not refrain the Mooncoin march to finish out the first half of the season unbeaten. Bohs played large parts of the first half in possession, constantly looking for a defense splitting pass that unfortunately for them, were knocking on the wrong door.

It was Mooncoin who took the lead, a penalty was awarded and penalty supremo Kipper O’Brien arrowed it into the top left corner of the net. Shortly after it was 2-0, Kelly whipped in a free kick from the right and Kavanagh headed into the far corner of the net and that’s how it stayed until half time. The opening quarter of an hour seen us slow out of the blocks and Bohs got one back with a shot from distance. Defiantly, our togetherness was not shattered, we push and pressed and eventually Synnott gave a ball to Kevin Walsh, he turn onto his preferred right foot, his shot was deflected and looped into the Bohs net. To seal the deal there was a mix up at the back for the home side, the ball fell for Synnott and he slotted it home for a comfortably victory.

Man of the match Johnny Kavanagh work tirelessly from start to finish and was a stand out performance on the night. It has been a very rewarding first half to the season for the squad who have yet to fall behind in a game all season and have picked up 25 out of a possible 27 points .

Well done to all the squad .

TEAM: O’Keeffe, Dalton, Kelly, C.O’Hanlon, McGrath, O’Brien, R.Walsh, Synnott, Sweeney, K.Walsh, Kavanagh. SUBS: Tebay, Tobin, L.Walsh, E.Walsh, J.O’Hanlon, Savauge, Dowley. The Christmas night out is Saturday DECEMBER 9TH. Bus leaves Comerfords @ 3:30pm.

Fixtures for the weekend

Saturday:
U12 away to Ferrybank B, kick off 10.30.
Derek’s squad have been making great progress every game and will look to continue their unbeaten run with 3 points here and climbing several places in the league with it.
U14 home to Kilmacow, kick off 12.30.
Derby day for this squad after the confidence boosting win which ended a long unbeaten Ferrybank run the last day. Kilmacow will be no pushovers having been in the B division last season, all the pressure will be on them in this one.

2B away to Bohs: kick off 7pm
A trip to Wadding Park under the lights for our high flying 2B squad. The lads have been very consistent to date and will be hoping to continue the impressive work rate which has really stood to them in each game so far. Patience will be key in this game as Bohs have shown they are a decent side when beating Carrick.
Sunday: 4th division home to Ferrybank, kick off 11am

Froggy and JJs charges will look to consolidate 3rd place with a win here. They have been consistent most of the season so far and will rue the points dropped earlier in the season.

Best of luck to all sides this weekend and as always, support is most welcome for all our teams home and away.

FAI national draw 2017

The FAI national draw took place this evening and while we wished all the people who supported the club by purchasing tickets the very best of luck unfortunately we didn’t get a winner. Your support is very much appreciated and all proceeds go towards the development work on Suir Crescent. You may spot there were some local winners so we might have better luck next year.

Coming up in the next few weeks will be our Christmas draw, tickets will be on sale from next week.

Youths result: Kilmacow 1 Mooncoin Celtic 0

A disappointing result with the winning goal coming from a very obvious offside position. We had a couple of good chances in the first half and really should have been ahead at half time. Overall a very good performance with Mooncoin being much the better team in the first half although the boys tired a bit in the second half they deserved at least a point.

Major improvement in this squad the last 2 weeks and will compete for the plate once the league is split. They will also have the divisional cup to play for as well come the end of season. Keep up the good work in training.
