Match taking place to raise funds for Vicky Phelan

This hyped up match taking place this Sunday to raise funds for Vicky Phelan is generating a lot of talk with the current 2b league leaders concentrating all their efforts at tonights training towards getting zimmer frames and crutches ready for the 2001/2002 squad for after the match. There is talk of a training session for this trophy laden squad from 2001/2002 taking place before Sunday so the 2b squad better be careful. This game will require everyone’s support on sunday and it promises to be great entertainment and raise vital funds for Vicky so please keep an hour or 2 free this Sunday afternoon when this game kicks off at 3pm.

U13 result: Park Rangers B 1 Mooncoin Celtic 1

A disappointing result for Victor’s squad after coming out of the traps early and scoring through Conor Dermody, the lads will be disappointed to have not secured the 3 points. Park Rangers equalised just on half time but the boys had the chances to win it and also had a stone wall penalty turned down. Good to see them disappointed as it shows the progress they are making.

Club Updates

The next month or so will be an extremely busy time off the pitch aswell as on it. Here’s the off field activities:

Starting next Sunday, the club will hold a fundraising match at 3pm between the present first team and the former league winners from 2001/2002 to raise funds for Vicky Phelan(nee Kelly). The current crop who are currently leading the 2b league will be looking to make a statement against a star studded team which contains Vicky’s brothers Robbie and Johnny, current 4th division stars Scoby Dunphy and Gerry Kirwan plus many more who secured the 2a league and 2nd division cup in a golden few years in the club back in the early 2000s. Admission is €5 with all funds going towards Vicky Phelan’s fund. Your support would greatly appreciated for this occasion.
The club recently submitted a planning application for the various works which we plan to carry out over the next few years at our new ground in Suir Crescent. The drainage works will recommence in April and to help fund this we are holding a big fundraiser on April 13th in the Tower Hotel.

The 20K DROP which is similar to the famous ‘million pound drop’ promises to be a great night with the chance of winning big money on the night. The launch night for the fundraiser is being held on Tuesday 6th of March in Comerfords Bar at 8.15pm where everyone is welcome when a trial run of the show will take place and we hope to have a special guest there on the night. Again all are most welcome as we launch this important fundraiser. Tickets for this show, which are limited, will go on sale in the next few weeks.

2b: MOONCOIN CELTIC 1-0 CARRICK UNITED

This was to be the last roll of the dice for The away side and for the home side, to try get one foot in the door of winning their first league title since 2003. Carrick dominated the first 20 minutes and pressed high up the field in an attempt to crack the Mooncoin resilience. Resilient we were and finally Mooncoin won the battle of midfield and created chances but without end product. A free kick from just outside the area by Kelly looked destined for the bottom corner but the keeper was equal to the task. Kavanagh broke through the heart of the Carrick defence, squared it to J.O’Hanlon and his close range effort was sliced wide. 0-0 at the interval and all to play for by both teams. Carrick pressed again second half for period but never created that killer chance. The home side had two fantastic opportunities to take the lead. The first was a scramble in the box, kavanagh and debutant Dowley had close range effort denied and the follow up blazed wide. The winner came deep in injury time. A training session corner set piece was swung in by D.Synnott and K.Walsh headed a bullet header home to set Ashgrove in jubilation! A sweet victory , 12 wins and 1 draw from 13 games for this side keep it up .

Fixtures for the weekend

Tomorrow U11 at home to Ferrybank, kick off 10.30.

Fine weather all week means games with the U11 squad kicking things off as they look to improve with every game they play. This young squad would put a lot of adult teams to shame as they continue to train in large numbers in the muck twice a week as they have done all season with the rewards there to be seen on match day.

U13 away to Park Rangers, kick off 2pm Victor’s squad have been busy the last week with useful run outs against DLS and Piltown so sharpness should not be a problem. A win here will do wonders for their confidence as they look to climb the table.

2b home to Carrick, kick off 2pm

After the close call against Tramore Rangers recently where it took a last minute wonder goal from one of the veterans Jamie Moore to snatch a win, the lads will know how difficult tomorrow’s game will be. Carrick have been up around the top 3 all season and will know defeat will finish their chances of a league title. Game 13 of the season where only 2 points have been dropped to date, mainly down to big numbers training every week.

Big game for all 3 teams who will need support as always.

Emily Blackmore U12 Waterford girls development squad.

A little bit of news to share with everyone this evening. Over the last few weeks, Emily Blackmore has been attending trials for the U12 Waterford girls development squad. We are delighted to share with everyone that Emily has been successful after the series of trials and has made the squad. This young girl who is U12 again next season, has shown that hard work and determination pays off. Credit to Derek Tebay, our u12 coach who has worked closely with Emily coming up to and during the trials. Massive credit aswell to her parents, Catherine and Stephen for instilling the work rate and great mentality into Emily. A proud day for both of them and her brother James aswell. Good luck Emily and well done from all in the club.

Our U13 squad had a very good run out against Piltown yesterday on their Astro turf with Conor Dermody, Aaron Fewer, Mike O’Keeffe & Brian Dunphy among the goals. A worthwhile exercise with Park Rangers away on Saturday at 2pm. Big thanks to Tom Conway and Piltown for hosting us.
