A big game for the club knowing a win was the only result to take us towards the league title . A strong cross field wind made playing difficult but we started strong creating a couple of half chances that we didn’t put away .
On 30mins a crystal cross wasn’t dealt with in our defence and crystal went 1-0 up . This was the real kick start we needed an the whole team responded with unbelievable heart and determination , on 34mins we got a corner which was swung in by Ethan Ryan , and in form Johnny kav tucked the ball away at the back post 1–1.
We kept the pressure up and were again rewarded on 41mins when the crystal keeper and defender got in each other’s way and when the ball fell to Kavanagh again he stuck it away to go 2-1 up .
That’s how it stayed until halftime . Strong positive words at half time had the lads pumped up for the second half , we kept pushing forward playing good football .
Kieran o Brien came on for robbie walsh and Daniel synnott came on for joey o Hanlon . We kept pressing and a couple of minutes after the substitutions Kevin Dowley hit a rasper of a shot which came back off the crossbar . A few mins later after some great passing the ball came to wayne kelly who tucked the ball away into the bottom left corner , to everyone’s shock after the ref blew and pointed to the centre circle for kick off he changed his mind and disallowed the goal .
This did not put off the boys in any way and they kept the tempo up , and 5 minutes later after a long goal kick from ross o keeffe , johnny flicked on a header to Kevin Dowley who turned with a great finish over the crystal keeper into the top corner .
Liam walsh came on for Ivan Tobin , We kept dominating an missed another couple of half chances , wayne kelly hitting the crossbar with a free kick on 75 mins .
We held on to the ball well the last 15mins , in the late stages made 2 more changes , eoghan walsh came on for Kevin Dowley and Jamie Moore came on for Johnny Kavanagh . And we saw out the game easily enough .
This squad showed unreal heart and determination to go a goal down knowing a win was the only result to keep us in with hope of winning the league and the boys done themselves and the club unbelievably proud tonight .
