Clover Tournament review

This morning 26 of our u8s and u9s arrived in Ferrybank to compete in the clover tournament with high hoping making an impression. The C squad made up of 3 u9s and 5 u8s were in a tough group with strong Bohs and Southend teams and also Piltown who just nicked a late goal to beat them. Good experience gained with 5 of them eligible for next year’s competition. Unfortunately they exited at the group stage.

Our B squad were in a tricky group with Villa, De la Salle and Piltown A. With 2 u9s and 6 u8s in this squad, again a lot of experience gained for future competitions. Unfortunately a group stage exit again.

The A squad were grouped with De la Salle B, Ferrybank and Ballyduff and scored big victories against Ferrybank and De la Salle but got caught cold when Ballyduff turned em over. To qualify for a quarter final, the dreaded penalty shoot out play off took place where a south Kilkenny derby between ourselves and Piltown took place. Nerves of steel were shown by Luke Harrington, Ethan Owens and Eoghan Drennan to score the penalties to send us through.

Bohs B awaited the lads as they looked to advance to a semi finals but a really tired Mooncoin Celtic team came up short as they were punished for silly mistakes. A brilliant day was had by all with lots of goals, saves and wonderful skills displayed, with Luke Harrington’s wonderful piece of skill against Bohs leaving the watching crowd gasp in awe. Big thanks to Ferrybank for hosting today, to the parents for their support on the sidelines.

Thank you to the coaches for their time and efforts not just today but all season, the disappointment on their faces afterwards said it all. Final thanks goes to all 26 young players who entertained us all day.
