Fixtures for the weekend:

Saturday
U11 home to Bohs, kick off 10.30
A large squad continues to train and play their mini world cup to keep a real competitive edge to their game. This is starting to reflect in the league games so they should be well capable of matching Bohs.
U15 away to Bohs, kick off 2.30
This squad share top spot in what I’d going to be a tight league with any one of four teams capable of winning it. They’ll get nothing easy in the RSC against a decent Bohs side.
Youths away to Villa, kick off 7pm
A Munster youth cup game against A league side Villa will be a good test for this squad who are gradually improving as a squad in every game.

Sunday:
U10 girls away to Railway/Cappoquin, kick off 12.30
This young group of girls are improving every week in training and will put everything in to this game as they aim for their first win.
U14 girls away to Railway/Cappoquin, kick off 12.30
After the disappointing defeat to Tramore, you’d think these girls would be downbeat. Not this bunch, who rolled up the sleeves the last two weeks and trained hard. Fingers crossed they’ll get their rewards on Sunday.
Support for all teams is most welcome as always.

4th Division Result: Mooncoin Celtic 3 Abbeyside 0

Today was the first game that we all clicked from start to finish ,we went at Abbeyside from the start with huge pressure being put on Abbeyside, after 7 minutes we were 1 up from the boot of Stephen Blackmore. We kept upping the tempo and should have had another 3 before a second from the now part of the ’40 club’ Neville Submitted with a nice finish. 2 nil up at the half time. Second half started with similar pressure from ourselves and got the third from Neville Synnott again, proof that maybe he is getting better with age. Abbeyside had only a couple of half chances but with a solid back 4 and Mod behind in the sticks not much was getting past. 3 points well deserved and a clean sheet.

U12 Result: Piltown B 2 Mooncoin Celtic 2

We went at Piltown from the off and the lads didn’t need much of a team talk as they knew what was at stake and it showed. We pressed and pressed from the kick off only narrowly missing chances in the first 5 minutes. We kept the tempo up and after a slick move Finbar Purcell was on the end of it to put us 1 up with a help from Canice Kinsella and Robbie Doherty. 1 nil at half time and the second started the same and we made a few changes before halftime and after the half and Piltown caught us napping to make it 1 all, ten minutes later it was 2-1 to them but up steps Billy Delahunty on his debut to make it 2 all. A great game was played by all 17 players.

Academy u9 and u8 play at DLS

Our u9s which was made up of a mix between our u8 and u9s visited the Williamstown complex to play De la Salle in a series of games.

A crisp cold evening did not hold back either club as plenty of goals were traded in exciting games.

Big thanks to our coaches who gave up their time this evening, they can take great credit for the continued improvements in our academy players. Without their help and encouragement, games like these would not take place.

WSFL Under 14C League Mooncoin Celtic 1 vs St Paul’s 2

Tough fixture for the under 14s today. We came up against a very strong St. Paul’s side. Good football in both halves by both sides saw an end to end game. Some strong defending was needed by us as St.Pauls attacked us at every opportunity. Ciara O’Keeffe was very solid playing a sweeper role and Alex Bailey and Mikey Cronin held their lines well to protect her. Daniel Roberts and Conor Dermody gave energy to the defence.. a midfield of Adam Conway, Tom Conway, Sam Hartwell & Lee Freyne broke down St Paul’s on a good few occasions and for parts of the game we were in control. Brian Dunphy player upfront as a lone striker.. Mike O’Keeffe and Eoin O’Callaghan came on to add more drive… Matthew Morahan and Aaron Fewer were other substitutes today. St Paul’s scored just before half time to get on top and we were on the back foot from there. They added a second mid way through the second half… we started creating chances and should have added one. But luck wasn’t on our side. Lee Freyne equalized from the spot but there was no time left to add another… performance wasn’t up to our normal standards but we will bounce back… player of the match was Ciara O’Keeffe

Fixtures for the weekend

Tomorrow: U12 away to Piltown B, kick off 10.30
As of now games go ahead. This derby game will be interesting with the lads improving every game and will be looking forward to this one.
U14 home to St Paul’s, kick off 12.30
After the defeat against Bohs in their previous outing this squad will look to bounce back and stay in touch with the leaders.
Sunday:
4th division home to Abbeyside, kick off 11am
After securing three points last week, another win here will keep the lads within touching distance of the leaders.
Support as always is welcome for all teams.

U13 Result Mooncoin Celtic 1 – Kilmacow 2

We travelled to neighbours and leaders Kilmacow and within minutes found ourselves 1-0 down. A quick change of formation saw us settle into the game. A corner kick from Stephen Brennan saw Kilmacow players turn off thinking the ball was out of play but Sherwan played the whistle and put the ball into the net. Another chance came when Stephen Brennan showed some great footwork in the box but hesitated in taking the shot. 1-1 Half Time. Some fantastic saves in the second half from man of the match Jake Moore kept us in the game. A Kilmacow free kick from far out saw the ball parried out to an unmarked Kilamacow player to slot home 1-2. We kept fighting until the end but it just wasn’t to be. Some positives to be taken from this game and no doubt the lads will be raring to get back on the training pitch in preparation for our next game.

Best wishes from Mooncoin Celtic to the Kilmacow defender who had to be carried off in the second half.
