Review of the last Week

We start with last Friday evening where our academy group headed towards neighbours Piltown for a series of games for all boys and girls. A beautiful sunny evening with lots of thrills and spills but most importantly fun. Big thanks to all in the ever impressive Kildalton Park for hosting us.

U11D League Result
Villa 2 Mooncoin Celtic 2
A cracker of a game on the astro in Villa with a draw being the fairest result. We went in at half time 1 up after an excellent passing move from goalkeeper James through Bobby, Tadhg, Eoin and finishing with Liam tucking away the opener. Second half saw Villa come in to the game and they got a deserved equaliser. With time just up Villa thought they had won the game from a corner which was headed home but up we went and Denis scrambled home a corner from Tom.

U11E League Result
Mooncoin Celtic 0
Ferrybank 5
League leaders Ferrybank proved way too strong for the boys who weren’t at their best but we are sure they’ll have better days ahead.

U11G League Result
Johnville 7
Mooncoin Celtic 2
Our youngest group came up against a physically stronger Johnville side and found the going tough but still battled on throughout with Henry and Harry grabbing our goals in John’s Park.

U13C League Result
Mooncoin Celtic 5 Portlaw 0
Another good win for this ever improving group who rattled home some fine goals against a game Portlaw side.
Kevin, Aaron, Tyler, Noel and Paudie were all on the scoresheet.

U15C League Result
Mooncoin Celtic 2
Dungarvan United 7
A tough game against Dungarvan in sunny Suir Crescent resulted in three points heading to west Waterford. Goals on the day were through Cathal Delaney Morahan with a brace.

Girls U14B League Result
Carrick United 0
Mooncoin Celtic 6
A warm morning in coolnamuck saw three more points secured but not without a fine fight from a young Carrick side who played super passing football throughout from start to finish and will be a team to watch out for in the future. Goals on the day from Lexi, Briona, Sophie, Anna, Taylor and Briona sees the girls step closer to hopefully league honours.

U16 Girls League Result
Mooncoin Celtic 2
Carrick United 3
League leaders got a fright on a warm sunny afternoon with goals from Áine and Aoibhe giving Carrick a scare after a right battle.

U12A League Result
Mooncoin Celtic 0
Ferrybank 0
After a few tough single goal defeats, the boys were determined to get a result in this one and the clean sheet was number one priority. Few chances for both teams throughout but no goals.

U12D League Result
St Saviours 0
Mooncoin Celtic 5
A very good win for the lads against a young Saviours side. Goals on a bright Monday evening from Shay, Billy, Max and Pete saw us secure three points on offer.

U14B League Result
Mooncoin Celtic 4
Piltown 3
After last week’s disappointing defeat against Kilmacow, the boys were hopeful of a better run out in this derby match but found themselves three down mid way through the second half but amazingly pulled themselves back in to it and won the game right at the death with goals on the day from Cathal 3 and Will. Bradley again was in top form keeping the boys in it for long periods with numerous saves.

U16C League Result
Mooncoin Celtic 2
Bohs 3
A fast start saw us race in to a two goal lead through Marcos and Emmet but Bohs pulled one back immediately. Second half saw us have plenty of possession but two goals from Bohs saw three points go to the boys in red and black. Improved performance from this group, results will follow for sure.

Final mention must go to the u12 Waterford Girls Development Squad who unfortunately exited at the semi final stage of the All Ireland Competition after a 1 nil defeat against MGL which was very tough on this squad. We had two coaches involved here with JP Byrne and Ritchie Lynch.

U16 Girls League Result Mooncoin Celtic 2 Carrick 3

Today we welcomed the league leaders Carrick to a sunny Suir Cresent. Our girls put in a great effort which paid off when we took the lead on 28 minutes through Áine Connery. The second half started with intense pressure from Carrick and on 47 minutes they had an equaliser which was followed by 2 more goals on 50 minutes and 53 minutes. A few substitutions were made by Mooncoin to freshen up our team. The girls pushed back and we pulled a goal back by Aoibhe Rees on 70 minutes. The girls gave it their all for the remaining 10 minutes and were extremely unlucky not to get a deserved equaliser. It was without a doubt our girls best team performance so far this season and if we were playing any other team we feel we would have taken the points.

U14 league result Mooncoin Celtic 4 Piltown 3

A sunny evening welcomed Piltown to Suir Crescent in the u14 league. Mooncoin started strongly but couldn’t find the final pass or shot. Then midway through the first half Piltown stunned the home team with 2 quick goals. Just before half time Cathal hit the top of the cross bar from a free kick. Piltown started the stronger in the second half and scored to make it 3 nil. Bradley made some good customary saves. A tweak to the formation and we started to play better football. Canice put a great ball in to the box and Cathal got there in front of the defence to slot in the goal. Shortly after Cathal swung in a cross and Will rose highest to nod in for his first goal for Mooncoin. Jimmy marauded forward and was brought down on the edge of the box. Cathal used earlier practise free kicks to perfect his shot which crashed in to the goal. With the momentum swing Cathal completed his hat trick in the last few minutes of the game swerved the ball into the corner of the goal for a memorable win.

Weekend Review

The last 10 days we have seen a pick up in the weather and all our teams getting back on the pitch.

U12 Girls Result
Park Rangers 2
Mooncoin Celtic 0
A right battle was played out in Faithlegg with very little between the teams. The physically bigger Park Rangers took the three points but not without a brilliant fight by our girls.

U11A League Result
Bohs 0
Mooncoin Celtic 2
The two bottom sides met in Wadding park and something had to give with our boys snatching the win thanks to goals in the first half by Shane and Kai to send the boys home happy.

U11D League Result
Mooncoin Celtic 2
Ferrybank 0
This ever improving side put another three points on the board when they beat a very good Ferrybank side with goals from Denis and a late second from Liam Mc sealing the win.

U11E League Result
Piltown 0
Mooncoin Celtic 3
We travelled to piltown looking for a win under a rare sunny sky and we started off in a real battle but with the defence of cormac in goal and Aidan, Corey and Patrick in front of him they made light of piltowns attacks. A bit of magic from Kieran opened the scoring when he cut inside past two piltown players and fired home from outside the box. Charlie and Edmond caused constant problem for piltown on the wings with support from Patrick and Aiden. We looked dangerous every time we got forward and had some great efforts on goal from Thomas, Charlie and John joe in the first half. Jim, billy and Cody came in and carried on as the rest of the team had been playing with great work rate and enthusiasm and a great run from Cody won us a corner early in the second half that Charlie swung in and it broke to Corey who finished expertly into the roof of the net to make it 2-0.
We created a world of chances to add to the scoring with Thomas and John joe unlucky not to have a few goals today. Cormac’s kicks were causing chaos all game and was unlucky not to score from half way with a free kick late on. Callum came in up front and nearly found the net within minutes but it was another corner this time from Edmond that he curled in to wrap up the win. This was the best team performance of the year from the lads and our captain for the day Kieran taking the man of the match but only just as it could have went to any of the 13 boys today who were all outstanding from start to finish.
It’s a pleasure coaching these lads and they are improving every game.

U11G League Result
Kilmac 6
Mooncoin Celtic 1
Our youngest side rocked up to windy alaska park to play a strong home side. First half was even enough with the score 1-1 at the break thanks to a goal from Henry. Second half saw the bigger Kilmac boys finish stronger to take the three points.

U15C League Result
Mooncoin Celtic 0
Tramore 5
A disappointing scoreline as a good Tramore side made light work of our lads and only for Bradley on goal it could have been more.

1B League Result
Mooncoin Celtic 0
St Paul’s 4
Four mistakes, four goals conceded. Our young 1B side faced title chasing St Paul’s and will be disappointed to give up cheap goals against a side that will always punish you. A soft corner was not dealt with and was bundled over the line for the first. A dubious free kick resulted in the second to make the score 2-0 at the break. We had hoped a shake up at half time might work but an unfortunate error in defence saw the game done on the hour mark. Another soft free on 75 minutes saw St Paul’s head back over the bridge happy. Harsh lessons again for the boys, good to see 5 youths involved on the day.

U10 Girls
Our u10s travelled to poleberry to face bohs and they played out an entertaining draw with all 8 on duty doing really well.

U11 Girls
A high scoring game was played in Suir Crescent on Sunday evening against Park Rangers with our girls coming out on the wrong end of an 11 goal thriller. Obvious signs of improvement though in the girls.

U14 Girls
Mooncoin Celtic 5
Tramore 0
Another three points secured and another hat trick from Alexi, with Taylor and Anna completing the scoring against a young Tramore side who never gave up.

U12A League Result
Bohs 1
Mooncoin Celtic 0
Another 1-0 defeat for the boys with plenty chances coming their way throughout but unfortunately it was Bohs who took the spoils.

U12D League Result
Villa 1
Mooncoin Celtic 2
Another good win for this young side with the boys dominating throughout but had to wait for late goals from Pete and Oisín to take home the three points.

U14B League Result
Mooncoin Celtic 1
Kilmacow 3
We came out on the wrong side of this Derby game on Tuesday evening with a couple of defensive lapses costing the lads dearly. Bradley was in top form again on goal with save after save. Robbie got our goal on the night but Kilmacow were full value for the win.

U18 Girls Result
Mooncoin Celtic 1
Park Rangers 0
The girls have not played a game in a long while and the rustiness was evident throughout as they secured the three points thanks to an Emily Blackmore finish. This keeps the girls in the mix for league honours ith 4 games to go.

U16C League Result
Mooncoin Celtic 1
De la Salle 6
League leaders De la Salle showed how strong a side they were by dispatching our young u16 team but not without a fight, Josh got a cracker of a goal to bring them back in to the game at 2-1 but De la Salle finished the stronger.

Massive well done to the Waterford League ladies side who ran out easy winners against North Tipperary last Sunday with our own Amy Lehane getting on the scoresheet. Shauna Mullowney was also involved and slotted in at left back when called upon.

This weekend sees a bundle of action with U11s in Suir Crescent, Villa and Johnville, U13s at home in Suir Crescent, u15s at home in Suir Crescent. Our U19 girls have a Munster Quarter Final away to Cahir. On Sunday, our U14 girls head to Carrick and our u16s Girls hosting Carrick.
A packed weekend for us, get out and support our teams where possible.

Munster Cup Carrigaline United 3 Mooncoin Celtic 1

The Girls took the the Road On Sunday to Carrigaline United . For the u17 Munster Clash .
This team is made up of a mixture of the 16s and 18s Squad . With some playing together for the first time . We went down a goal 6 minutes and levelled it up again in the 9th minute with a superb Ella Brennan Goal . We held our own for most of the game , but Carrigaline kicked on and added two more goals to their tally to come away with the Win .
A huge Thanks you to Peter Brennan and Ashgrove Transport for their kind donation that subsidised the bus trip for the girls .

U14b League Result Mooncoin Celtic 7 Piltown 2

A very fast start from our girls had us 2 up thanks to Lexi and Anna R after only ten minutes. Piltown were not going to lie down in this derby match and got a brilliant goal from distance after fifteen minutes. But the girls starting turning the screw and got two great goals- one from Alexi and an excellent finish from Siobhán to make it 4-1 at half time. The second half was an even enough affair with further goals from Alexi, Anna R and Siobhán to finish the game 7-2.
A great win for our girls and an excellent team performance with all the subs contributing in the second half.
