U18 League Mooncoin Celtic 4 Tramore 2

Another three points on the board tonight after a very tough and physical game from a determined Tramore outfit .

We got off to a flyer when Emily Blackmore took a long range shot that sailed to the top left corner on the 4 minute mark . The game flowed for the next 40 minutes, with both teams having very good passages of play . Eimear Quinn was superb in defence this evening and calmly came to our rescue when the need arose flanked by Niamh , Gracie, and Kate . Backed up as always by Abbie Hassett between the posts . They made things very difficult for Tramore to break down in the first half . We had chances before the break but didn’t capitalise on any of them . Sommer and Hannah linked up very well in the middle and sprayed plenty of ball for Ciara Ross and Ella to run onto .
Both teams went toe to toe in the second half and it was deadlock between the two teams approaching the half way mark when some wonderful passing saw us work the ball up the pitch from Gracie in defence to space in the middle , where Emily set Ciara Ross up for a superb finish from a very tight angle. Tramore reacted, and some sloppy defending from us allowed them back into the game. On the 78 minute, Emily Blackmore rattled the net for a second time when she converted a free kick . But within 5 minutes, Tramore again struck back and kept themselves in the game . Up stepped Sarah Walsh to slot home to give us some breathing space, and we saw the game out on a scoreline 4-2. Superb work girls

Villa 2 (AET)
Absolute heartbreak for this squad as two goals in the final moments of extra time saw Villa progress. A brilliant match which swung from end to end all the way through but no goals in normal time. Both sides had chances in extra time before Villa broke away and won it. Best of luck to Villa in the next round.

A trip to league favourites was on the menu for the boys on Monday evening with the hope of extending their good run. A scrappy first goal saw Southend on top before an excellent finish from distance set the boys back but the second half saw a different approach with Southend defending in numbers. We pulled a goal back through Ryan but too little too late.

A cracking game in Suir Crescent on Tuesday as Bohs visited Mooncoin u14s. We started quickly and after a couple of minutes Shane got his first goal of the season with the ball just crossing the line. After more pressure, Cathal scored from a free kick in to the corner of the net. Shane had a good chance to get his second, but put it wide. Undeterred he cooly scored the harder chance shortly after. We knew Bohs would come back at us in the 2nd half and they scored the next goal. Cathal scored a wonder free kick from around halfway which gave the keeper no chance. The game opened up and Bohs got 2 good goals to up the pressure. Cathal had the last word and hit a bullet shot to complete his hat trick with the final score 5-3.

A last minute winner from Seaview was the way this side ended their season but they put up one hell of a fight throughout the 80 minutes in annestown. At one point they led 3-1 but Seaview dug deep and went through in the end. Goals on the night from Emmet with two and two from the hard working Marcos was not enough to see them through.

A sunny Sunday May morning in Suir Crescent before a large home crowd, who were hoping to see our girls clinch the very first girls league title for the club and our girls did not disappoint. From the off, the girls responded to a very emotional team talk beforehand to fly out of the traps and fired in some super team goals in the opening half. After some changes at half time, they kept the pressure on and clinched the league title in style. A brilliant league campaign was capped off with the winners medals and League trophy being presented by Pete Roche of the Waterford Schoolgirls League Committee. The girls were beyond excited and really enjoyed the post match celebrations with pizza and minerals which were sponsored by
Bounce Land Inflatables and kindly delivered by Mondo’s Takeaway. We had one of our founding members Matty Kelly present this morning to witness the win and Matty shared some very kind words with the girls afterwards before posing for a nice team photo. A massive well done to all the girls and coaches involved for their hard work and commitment over the last 10 months.
The final word on a historic day for our girls section is to the late Kate Corcoran, who is never far from our thoughts and we are sure Kate was smiling down on our young stars today. This league title is dedicated to the Late Kate Corcoran.

Villa 2
A fantastic performance from our u12 girls against the league leaders Villa last Sunday in Suir Crescent. From the off we put the Villa defence under some pressure scoring the opening goal with a great strike from Aoibhe V. Excellent pressure on the ball in all areas of the pitch had the score at 1-1 at half time. In the second half we passed the ball brilliantly and created numerous chances, with Maria running at their defence time and time again. We were unlucky to concede a second in this half and didn’t deserve to come away with no points.

Best performance of the season by the boys against 1A side Southend who will have aspirations for winning the cup. Kieran Fagan had us 1 up on 15 minutes with an excellent finish but Southend nudged ahead with two good finishes on 25 and 30 minutes. Right on half time, Kieran Fagan equalised with a very tidy finish from a brilliant ball from Ryan Carroll. Disciplined shape and patience was required for the second period but tired legs would catch up with us as Southend got the winner with 10 minutes to go. Proud performance by all 11 on duty who matched the higher league outfit for long periods.

Best of luck to Park Rangers in the Munster Final.

North End 4
After Extra time.
A rip roaring match on a bank holiday Monday saw a very good North End side advance to the last 8. North End took the lead midway through the opening half and this kick started the girls into action with an Emily Blackmore equaliser and from there the girls matched North End all the way. Ella Brennan put us 2-1 up with 20 minutes to go and it looked like we were going through with our defence and Sadhbh Kirwan on goal brilliant throughout but the pressure told with North End scoring with a header from a corner. Extra time was required to separate the girls and the tired legs caught up on our girls as a goal in each half by a very good North End striker saw them advance to the quarter finals. Brilliant advertisement for girls soccer.

U14 League De La Salle 2 Mooncoin Celtic 3

Bank holiday Monday saw the u14 boys travel to De la Salle. An even first half looked like being scoreless until DLS broke and clinically slotted home. Mooncoin lads have plenty of resilience lately and were level early in the second half when Cathal latched on to a good through ball and slotted it past the keeper. More pressure resulted in James scrambling home a cross into the back of the goal from close range. DLS equalised with an unstoppable goal from long range. Heads didn’t drop and we pushed for a winner and Cathal won a penalty in the final minute. He picked himself up to calmly score and make sure this bunch of lads got their first win in Williamstown and deserved 3 points.

U10 Blitz

Last Sunday, our u10s travelled to Highview Athletic in Grauigenamanagh for a tournament in glorious sunshine. Our three teams performed very well with one getting to the Cup semi final and another was beaten in the plate final. All the boys really enjoyed the day and behaviour was impeccable throughout. Big thank you to Paul and all in Highview for their hospitality throughout the day.

U14 League Tramore 1 Mooncoin Celtic 2

After a wet and miserable Thursday, Tramore was the venue for the visit of Mooncoin u14s. Tramore started the brightest and with only 2 minutes on the clock, they scored the opener from distance which left Bradley with no chance. Mooncoin settled and started playing better football. Small tactical change at halftime paid off early in the second half with Cathal curling in his shot to the corner of the goal. He followed that up with a second shortly after with a goal from a free kick outside the box that powered its way through lots of bodies. Very little split the teams for the rest of the match, a slippy ball making control difficult. Mooncoin held on for the deserved win with a great team effort after going behind early on.

U18 League Mooncoin Celtic 3-2 Villa

The first of the summer sun shone as we took on Villa in the u18s league .
We had spells in the first half where we played very well. However, we rued missed opportunities. Villa scored on the 15 mins mark when we failed to clear a contested ball .
We went in at half time 1-0 down , and the girls took over the half-time talk and discussed how they could improve . We took to the pitch for the second half , determined to play better than we had been and 2 mins in Sarah Walsh finished a good move to make things square and then she was on hand yet again to finish an Ella Brennan corner to the back of the net . Villa continued to pile on the pressure . Hannah Carroll and Sommer Grant battled hard in the middle of the pitch with Molly Long and Ella Brennan working tirelessly on the wing. With 25mins of the 2nd half gone, Emily Blackmore added to our tally when she got free from a tackle and finished to the bottom corner of the net. 12 minutes from the end, Villa struck back to make it 3-2 and set up for a nail biting finish . 5 minutes from time, Villa looked destined to equalise ….. but Abbie Hassett denied their effort with an amazing save .
Well done to the girls , who were rewarded with all three points tonight .
