U10 Blitz

Last Sunday, our u10s travelled to Highview Athletic in Grauigenamanagh for a tournament in glorious sunshine. Our three teams performed very well with one getting to the Cup semi final and another was beaten in the plate final. All the boys really enjoyed the day and behaviour was impeccable throughout. Big thank you to Paul and all in Highview for their hospitality throughout the day.

U14 League Tramore 1 Mooncoin Celtic 2

After a wet and miserable Thursday, Tramore was the venue for the visit of Mooncoin u14s. Tramore started the brightest and with only 2 minutes on the clock, they scored the opener from distance which left Bradley with no chance. Mooncoin settled and started playing better football. Small tactical change at halftime paid off early in the second half with Cathal curling in his shot to the corner of the goal. He followed that up with a second shortly after with a goal from a free kick outside the box that powered its way through lots of bodies. Very little split the teams for the rest of the match, a slippy ball making control difficult. Mooncoin held on for the deserved win with a great team effort after going behind early on.

A great finish from Reuben had the boys one up at half time and they were in confident mood going out in the second half. Two lapses in concentration saw two goals in a few minutes conceded but we still had chances to get level but carrick hung on for the three points.

A sloppy first half saw Villa head in 1 up at half time despite us having a few chances but the girls pulled themselves together and second half goals from Emily Blackmore and two from Sarah Walsh secured the three points. Big win again and three games to come in what will be another close run league.

U18 League Mooncoin Celtic 3-2 Villa

The first of the summer sun shone as we took on Villa in the u18s league .
We had spells in the first half where we played very well. However, we rued missed opportunities. Villa scored on the 15 mins mark when we failed to clear a contested ball .
We went in at half time 1-0 down , and the girls took over the half-time talk and discussed how they could improve . We took to the pitch for the second half , determined to play better than we had been and 2 mins in Sarah Walsh finished a good move to make things square and then she was on hand yet again to finish an Ella Brennan corner to the back of the net . Villa continued to pile on the pressure . Hannah Carroll and Sommer Grant battled hard in the middle of the pitch with Molly Long and Ella Brennan working tirelessly on the wing. With 25mins of the 2nd half gone, Emily Blackmore added to our tally when she got free from a tackle and finished to the bottom corner of the net. 12 minutes from the end, Villa struck back to make it 3-2 and set up for a nail biting finish . 5 minutes from time, Villa looked destined to equalise ….. but Abbie Hassett denied their effort with an amazing save .
Well done to the girls , who were rewarded with all three points tonight .

Review of the last Week

We start with last Friday evening where our academy group headed towards neighbours Piltown for a series of games for all boys and girls. A beautiful sunny evening with lots of thrills and spills but most importantly fun. Big thanks to all in the ever impressive Kildalton Park for hosting us.

A cracker of a game on the astro in Villa with a draw being the fairest result. We went in at half time 1 up after an excellent passing move from goalkeeper James through Bobby, Tadhg, Eoin and finishing with Liam tucking away the opener. Second half saw Villa come in to the game and they got a deserved equaliser. With time just up Villa thought they had won the game from a corner which was headed home but up we went and Denis scrambled home a corner from Tom.

After last week’s disappointing defeat against Kilmacow, the boys were hopeful of a better run out in this derby match but found themselves three down mid way through the second half but amazingly pulled themselves back in to it and won the game right at the death with goals on the day from Cathal 3 and Will. Bradley again was in top form keeping the boys in it for long periods with numerous saves.

A fast start saw us race in to a two goal lead through Marcos and Emmet but Bohs pulled one back immediately. Second half saw us have plenty of possession but two goals from Bohs saw three points go to the boys in red and black. Improved performance from this group, results will follow for sure.

Final mention must go to the u12 Waterford Girls Development Squad who unfortunately exited at the semi final stage of the All Ireland Competition after a 1 nil defeat against MGL which was very tough on this squad. We had two coaches involved here with JP Byrne and Ritchie Lynch.

U16 Girls League Result Mooncoin Celtic 2 Carrick 3

Today we welcomed the league leaders Carrick to a sunny Suir Cresent. Our girls put in a great effort which paid off when we took the lead on 28 minutes through Áine Connery. The second half started with intense pressure from Carrick and on 47 minutes they had an equaliser which was followed by 2 more goals on 50 minutes and 53 minutes. A few substitutions were made by Mooncoin to freshen up our team. The girls pushed back and we pulled a goal back by Aoibhe Rees on 70 minutes. The girls gave it their all for the remaining 10 minutes and were extremely unlucky not to get a deserved equaliser. It was without a doubt our girls best team performance so far this season and if we were playing any other team we feel we would have taken the points.

U14 league result Mooncoin Celtic 4 Piltown 3

A sunny evening welcomed Piltown to Suir Crescent in the u14 league. Mooncoin started strongly but couldn’t find the final pass or shot. Then midway through the first half Piltown stunned the home team with 2 quick goals. Just before half time Cathal hit the top of the cross bar from a free kick. Piltown started the stronger in the second half and scored to make it 3 nil. Bradley made some good customary saves. A tweak to the formation and we started to play better football. Canice put a great ball in to the box and Cathal got there in front of the defence to slot in the goal. Shortly after Cathal swung in a cross and Will rose highest to nod in for his first goal for Mooncoin. Jimmy marauded forward and was brought down on the edge of the box. Cathal used earlier practise free kicks to perfect his shot which crashed in to the goal. With the momentum swing Cathal completed his hat trick in the last few minutes of the game swerved the ball into the corner of the goal for a memorable win.

U11E League Result
Piltown 0
Mooncoin Celtic 3
We travelled to piltown looking for a win under a rare sunny sky and we started off in a real battle but with the defence of cormac in goal and Aidan, Corey and Patrick in front of him they made light of piltowns attacks. A bit of magic from Kieran opened the scoring when he cut inside past two piltown players and fired home from outside the box. Charlie and Edmond caused constant problem for piltown on the wings with support from Patrick and Aiden. We looked dangerous every time we got forward and had some great efforts on goal from Thomas, Charlie and John joe in the first half. Jim, billy and Cody came in and carried on as the rest of the team had been playing with great work rate and enthusiasm and a great run from Cody won us a corner early in the second half that Charlie swung in and it broke to Corey who finished expertly into the roof of the net to make it 2-0.
We created a world of chances to add to the scoring with Thomas and John joe unlucky not to have a few goals today. Cormac’s kicks were causing chaos all game and was unlucky not to score from half way with a free kick late on. Callum came in up front and nearly found the net within minutes but it was another corner this time from Edmond that he curled in to wrap up the win. This was the best team performance of the year from the lads and our captain for the day Kieran taking the man of the match but only just as it could have went to any of the 13 boys today who were all outstanding from start to finish.
It’s a pleasure coaching these lads and they are improving every game.

St Paul’s 4
Four mistakes, four goals conceded. Our young 1B side faced title chasing St Paul’s and will be disappointed to give up cheap goals against a side that will always punish you. A soft corner was not dealt with and was bundled over the line for the first. A dubious free kick resulted in the second to make the score 2-0 at the break. We had hoped a shake up at half time might work but an unfortunate error in defence saw the game done on the hour mark. Another soft free on 75 minutes saw St Paul’s head back over the bridge happy. Harsh lessons again for the boys, good to see 5 youths involved on the day.

U10 Girls
Our u10s travelled to poleberry to face bohs and they played out an entertaining draw with all 8 on duty doing really well.

Massive well done to the Waterford League ladies side who ran out easy winners against North Tipperary last Sunday with our own Amy Lehane getting on the scoresheet. Shauna Mullowney was also involved and slotted in at left back when called upon.

This weekend sees a bundle of action with U11s in Suir Crescent, Villa and Johnville, U13s at home in Suir Crescent, u15s at home in Suir Crescent. Our U19 girls have a Munster Quarter Final away to Cahir. On Sunday, our U14 girls head to Carrick and our u16s Girls hosting Carrick.
A packed weekend for us, get out and support our teams where possible.

Munster Cup Carrigaline United 3 Mooncoin Celtic 1

The Girls took the the Road On Sunday to Carrigaline United . For the u17 Munster Clash .
This team is made up of a mixture of the 16s and 18s Squad . With some playing together for the first time . We went down a goal 6 minutes and levelled it up again in the 9th minute with a superb Ella Brennan Goal . We held our own for most of the game , but Carrigaline kicked on and added two more goals to their tally to come away with the Win .
A huge Thanks you to Peter Brennan and Ashgrove Transport for their kind donation that subsidised the bus trip for the girls .
