Following on from a great performance last weekend against 2nd place Kilmacow we went up against the league leaders today. Will Cuddihy started at left back and was easily one of the best players on the pitch before the Seaview striker put a bad tackle in which unfortunately ended his game. Not many clear cut chances seen us go in level at the break.

Second half started as the first with not many chances but we defended very well while creating some nice possession passing football. Seaview took the lead out of nothing but the lads didn’t drop the heads and kept fighting. A change of formation seen a break down the right hand side and a high cross go into the box with our Waterford star Emily Blackmore flick a header onto the feet of the ever present Eoin O’Callaghan to tap into the net. We kept fighting and looked like we were going to come away with an upset only for Seaview to score with almost the last kick off the game. Some disappointed kids at the end who deserved a draw at least for their fight but we’ll be ready to battle for the next game.

I’ve been told recently that Will is recovering nicely at home with the feet up playing Fortnite on the Xbox.

Mooncoin Celtic win on penalties.

A tit for tat cup game with the lads scrapping through on penalties. Neville Synnott put the lads ahead but were pegged back by Johnville before the dreaded penalty shoot out. There was plenty of chances during the game but the lads couldn’t convert especially Scoby who missed a penalty. After his recent hot scoring streak, confidence was high but tonight was not his night when he felt the pressure of sealing the game when they were leading 1-0 and missed the penalty to secure an easy passage to the next round. On to the shoot out where again Scoby was unsuccessful from 12 yards but the lads rescued the situation to put them through against Park Rangers on Wednesday evening in Ashgrove.

We’ve been asked to advertise a pair of boots for sale, size 10. Rarely used and its been advised to NOT take penalties with these boots. €10 O.N.O

Just a little note on the academy activities:
Our younger group of u6s travelled to play Piltown yesterday in a little blitz with goals, saves and tackles galore on display from both clubs. Big thanks to Trevor Lacey and the lads in Piltown for having us.

Our u9s play Carrick in Ashgrove this evening at 6pm. These games are in preparation for the Clover tournament in a couple of weeks.

Tomorrow the girls academy team travel to play Bohs at 11am in Poleberry. This little group is growing every week with good progress being made every session.

We can’t let the day pass without wishing the very best of luck to young Emily Blackmore as she travels to Killarney for the FAI tournament with the Waterford U12 girls squad this Sunday. A massive achievement for this young player who is still u11 and will fly the flag for both her family and club this weekend.

Tomorrow: u12 home to Seaview Celtic, kick off 10.30.�After putting it up to second place Kilmacow last week, Derek’s lads will welcome leaders Seaview and will hope to produce a similar performance to last week.�4th division cup, away to Johnville, kick off 7pm�After the disappointment of the play off defeat midweek, the older lads start their cup campaign and will be hoping to bounce back with a bang. �Sunday: Youth cup semi final Mooncoin Celtic v Villa in ozier park, kick off 2pm.�After the great win against Kilmacow, the lads will be gunning for Villa who twice nicked wins against them in the league but that will count for little come Sunday afternoon with a cup final appearance at stake.�Support for all teams is most welcome.

A sunny but breezy evening in Ashgrove where Portlaw were the visitors but the lads kept their run going and secured the 3 points without getting in to 2nd gear. Portlaw with the wind took the lead but Kieran Fagan continued his scoring run with the equalizer before half time. The second half was poor enough with neither team creating much but with 10 minutes to go Alan Walsh scored a cracker from distance to get the lads ahead. A flurry of changes seemed to open up the game and Killian Horan sealed the points with a 25 yard rasper. Good performances throughout but special mention to the back 4, with Alex Bailey and Jack Brennan the pick of the bunch. St saviours at home next Wednesday, where they will look to continue this little run.

Our veterans league campaign came to a close tonight in ozier Park but it wasn’t for the lack of trying . We had the possession advantage in first in a very hard fought game but both defences were very good , our best chance falling to scoby who pulled a shot just wide . But at half time it was 0-0 and all to play for .

We started the better in the second half but again both defences were tight , with legs getting tired a few changes were made and we picked up the tempo . With penalty’s looking like the only outcome with 5minutes to go . Kilmacow got a throw on the right hand side , a player was not picked up and skipped past 2 players and played across the box for kilmacow to score what was to be the winning goal.

From kick off a defensive error put us on the back foot but after a great last gasp tackle to everyone’s shock the ref pointed to the penalty spot . Justice was served when Barry Hearn saved the resulting penalty brilliantly .

We threw everything at kilmacow the last few minutes with a couple of close shaves from corners but it wasn’t to be . But it was a brilliant second half of the season from this squad , well done to all .
In the first half a kilmacow player suffered a nasty head injury we wish him all the best .

And last of all congratulations to Kilmacow on winning the plate .

An absolute cracker of a cup tie was played this evening in the sports complex in Kilmacow. Two soft goals conceded in the first half by the lads looked like that was that and season was over but the heart shown by all the team was a sight to behold. Martin O’Neill started the comeback back to 2-1 , a goalmouth scramble saw the equalizer forced home(scorer unknown) 2-2 , and with 10 minutes to go Martin O’Neill popped up with the winner. Hats off to the never say die attitude shown by the boys this evening. Semi final to be played this Sunday in Ozier Park at 2pm against the Villa. Before the game, a minutes silence was observed in memory of Bob Croke who passed away yesterday. Condolences to the Croke family and to the community of Kilmacow during this sad time.

A big derby play off where a little bit of silverware will be on offer. Not much between these 2 sides from the league fixtures so get ready for a tight game.

Youth Cup, away to Kilmacow, kick off 6.30
The lads will hope to get the better of league runners up Kilmacow and progress to the semi final. A 1-0 win for Kilmacow in the league earlier this season suggests a tight game is on the cards.

Thursday: U14 home to Portlaw, kick off 6.30
The lads will hope to continue their good run especially with the cup starting soon. This will be the first of 2 games in 3 days.
