With just two games remaining in the league we faced a potentially tricky game against Abbeyside today.
Any worries about a nervous performance were put to bed after five minutes when a corner delivered into the box was pounced on by James Delahunty and he finished easily for the teams 50th goal of the season.
Goal number two followed soon after when relentless pressure on the visiting defenders saw Lee Tracey steal the ball from a defender and slot home his 19th goal of the season.
The display became a little sloppy for the remainder of the half apart from a piece of genius by Dan Fewer who beat his man on the right of the box and conjured up a bit of magic to stick his shot in the top corner from the end line .
The second half saw a big improvement as we kept the ball and played at a good tempo to keep the visitors pressed deep into their own half for long periods.
This pressure was rewarded when a deep corner from Dan Cleary was headed back into the six yard box and Evan made no mistake with a neat finish into the corner.
We continued to dominate possession and went close to extending the lead on several occasions before the fifth goal arrived with fifteen minutes remaining .A brilliant pass from Ben into Evan who laid off a great pass for Conor Stacey to hit a first touch curling shot to the top corner .
Final score 5.0
Good performance from all the squad today and it takes the hunt for the title to the final game where we will have to overcome neighbours Kilmacow in the
“el classico” to have a chance of League honours.
This team has put in an unbelievable effort in training and matches all season and a massive show of support at this game from all involved in the club would be greatly appreciated by these lads.
