Congratulations to our 4 schoolgirls who scooped All Ireland Interleague Winners medals on Saturday
U16s Emily Blackmore, Ella Brennan and Aoibhe Rees along with U12 goalkeeper Hannah Dobbyn all went home happy today after the two finals went Waterfords way. 👏👏👏👏 Well done ladies.
Best of luck to our 4 girls involved in Gaynor All Ireland Finals tomorrow in Kilkenny with the Waterford Schoolgirls League Development Squads. Emily Blackmore, Ella Brennan and Aoibhe Rees are involved at u16 level and Hannah Dobbyn is involved with the u12 squad.
Everyone in Mooncoin Celtic are rooting for these 4 girls and their teammates tomorrow.
We are delighted to announce that we have been granted €20,000 as part of the Community Recognition Fund led by Kilkenny County Council.
This will fund the road surfacing from the roadway in Suir Cresent up to the new entrance which will be started shortly.
Thank you as always for your continued support, without the support of all stakeholders in helping develop our facilities, we would not be granted such funding to enhance the facilties.
Seamus and Rene Comerford are starting a monthly quiz night for all local clubs and groups and each month one of these will be the benefactors of what promises to be a great night.
Mooncoin Celtic have been selected as the first club to benefit and the first quiz will be held Friday week, 26th May in Comerfords Bar, try make a gap in your diary for it and team up with other parents of schoolboy or schoolgirl players.
Our u14 white girls, got their cup campaign underway with a win against Piltown blue. Three first half goals sealed the victory, with two late goals from a resilient piltown team.
A fast start from the boys this evening saw them race in to a two goal lead thanks to great finishes from Ryan Sutton and Will Doherty.
They possibly could have been further ahead only for a tight offside call denied Billy O’Keeffe.
Second half onslaught from Villa was expected but Jack Twomey and Tyler Kelly marshalled the defence through out and John Mackey sealed the three points after great work by Cian O’Donoghue. Excellent performance and their 10th clean sheet of the season.
Oisín was captain today and was man of the match for Mooncoin. A mix up in defence led to Villa’s first and handball in the build-up was conveniently missed for their second.
Mooncoin rallied and Donncha was desperately unlucky when through on goal with his shot landing the wrong side of the goal-line via the crossbar.
Shane was hacked down in the box soon after and should feel aggrieved not to have won a pen. Second half Villa scored their third with a cracker well out of our keeper’s reach. Mooncoin pressed on and were unlucky not to have another pen with Billy fouled from behind this time round. His free kick moments later was volleyed sweetly by Rueben only just wide.
Liam F snuck in at the back post later on for a well taken goal and his second of the season. 3-1 to the home team but the lads gave a great account of themselves this evening.
A titanic battle took place in Suir Crescent this afternoon with very little between the two teams.
A rip roaring start by us saw Emily Blackmore cause a few problems and a penalty was awarded after Emily was upended. Unfortunately a super save by the Breaska Keeper kept the penalty out.
Breaska were dangerous all over the pitch and were rewarded with a penalty of their own after some slack defending which they converted despite the best efforts of Grace O Toole. A few minutes before half time we were punished for more slack defending and Breaska went in 2 nil to the good. A stern talk at half time saw a resurgence in the girls and some excellent football was played before Ella Brennan buried one from 20 yards out on 70 minutes. Try as we might, that equaliser eluded us and Breaska scored from a corner with a few minutes remaining. Disappointing result but a heck of a performance from our young side.
Excellent performance throughout with stand out players being Grace O’Toole, Becky Connaughton, Beth Kelly and the star today Ella Brennan. Best of luck to Breaska Rovers in the rest of the competition.
The very best of luck to all boys and girls receiving First Holy Communion today in Mooncoin. Enjoy the day and fingers crossed the weather will be fine.
