Tragic week

The past week has thrown local football and Waterford city and surrounding areas in to mourning with the loss of three young men who were in the prime of their lives. All in Mooncoin Celtic offer their condolences to the family and friends of Gilbert Collins and Avu Idris who tragically lost their lives in an accident last week on the Cork Road and condolences also to the family and friends of Michael Grant who passed away while away on holiday. Having experienced the loss of a young player recently ourselves in Mooncoin Celtic when we lost young Kate Corcoran last November, the clubs and soccer families of the three lads in Waterford Crystal, Villa and St Joseph’s FC respectively will feel a huge loss and will recover in time but for now it’s important to look out for each other and watch over all the young and old players in your clubs in the coming weeks and months. Three good guys have been taken way too soon, two young men who were only making their way in life in Gilbert and Avu, and a truly passionate coach and clubman in Michael Grant.
RIP Gilbert, Avu and Granter.

New Players Required

With plans in place for a 3rd Division team along with our 1B team for the coming season, there will be a meeting on Tuesday evening in Suir Crescent at 7.30 for any players that may be interested. Please share this post.

U12D Cup Final Result Mooncoin Celtic 0 Park Rangers 5

The boys hard work and determination all season saw them get to a cup final in tramore against Park rangers. Unfortunately it wasn’t meant to be as park rangers took a 2-0 lead heading into the 2nd half in an evenly contested 1st half. The 2nd half saw us go flat and we couldn’t seem to create many chances for ourselves. Although the cup win wasn’t meant to be this does not take away from all the boys’ efforts all season to get themselves to this point. They have all shown massive progress all season and we couldn’t be prouder of how well they have got on as a team all year on and off the pitch. The positivity out of this group is unmatched and they were all willing to fight for each other in every game this season. It has been a pleasure to be able to coach this group this season.

Best of luck

Everyone in Mooncoin Celtic wish the very best of luck to these two boys, Jake O’Doherty and Robbie Doherty and their team mates who will be starring for Kilkenny in the All Ireland minor hurling final tomorrow evening. 🤞 They will be lifting a 🏆 tomorrow evening.

U16 Girls play off semi final Dungarvan United 4 Mooncoin Celtic 1

We travelled to Dungarvan on Thursday evening for the semi-final playoff of the league. Unfortunately, it wasn’t our day. The girls tried their hardest , but the recent amount of hard games to get us to this point caught up with us. Dungarvan took an early lead, but we struck back through a Molly Quinn tap in. Dungarvan retook the lead before halftime. In the second half, we tried to tweak our formation, but it proved unsuccessful. Dungarvan extended their lead on 63 minutes and again on 77 minutes. Our girls were exhausted at this stage, and the game went away from us. Fulltime Dungarvan 4 Mooncoin Celtic 1.
This game brings the curtain down on our season, and we, the coaches, are very proud of every girl that came on our journey this season. It started off slow, but through everyone’s efforts and determination, our season got better and better, resulting in us being involved in both Cup and league semifinals. To the girls that are moving onto u18s next season we wish you all the best. To the girls who are staying we will have girls coming up from the double winning u14 squad, so we think that the future is going to be bright.
Thanks for all your help throughout the year and we’ll hopefully go that extra mile next time.
Hopefully everyone can make the Soccer Marathon on Sunday where player of the year and most improved player awards will be given out.
JP, Amy, Chris and Buggy.

U12D Cup Semi Final Mooncoin Celtic 3 Carrick United 2

A rip roaring Cup tie with drama from start to finish. Thankfully the boys came out on top with goals from Kai 2 and Billy snatching the 3rd but carrick gave as good as they got and could well have snatched a draw but we hung on in the end. All roads lead to Tramore on Thursday evening where we face Park Rangers in the final at 7pm.

Please get out and support these teams in massive games

Two huge fixtures for the club tomorrow evening and support for both will be crucial for them.
Our U16 girls who have been in sparkling form head to Dungarvan for a League play off semi final, kicking off at 7pm with the winners facing Park Rangers in the final to decide who wins the league.
At 7pm in Tramore, our U12B side face Park Rangers in the Cup Final and Jake Moore’s side will be hoping to continue their good form and snatch a well deserved trophy after a long season.
Please get out and support our teams if possible.
