What a match to start off the u13b league, a local derby against Kilmacow and while Mooncoin started off well they found themselves 0-3 down after 20 minutes.
Then Finn scored a cracking free kick making it 1-3 at half time and the team rallied during the half time break and came out into the 2nd half full of gusto as the two goal deficit was pulled back to 3-3 with goals from Charlie and Sean.
A quick break out made it 3-4 to Kilmacow but the Mooncoin boys pulled it back again with a cross come shot from Luke to make it 4-4 , honours even and a shared point from a great match.
The U15s started their season with a home game to local rivals Piltown. In a game quite well controlled from the first whistle, Mooncoin ran out comfortable winners against a battling young Piltown side. Goals from Marti, Canice, Jamie and not forgetting Robbie who bagged 4, capped off a great team performance. Next up are Park Rangers at home.
U17s Began their league campaign today with an away game to Villa Fc
The game started at a frantic pace with both teams wanting to get on top …. Most of the play in the first half was in the Middle of the field with some great passages of play from ourselves and the Villa .
Our back four did very well against the constant pressing of the villa midfield and strikers . Ciara Corcoran made her presence known and really helped to distribute the ball .
Five minutes after the first water break , Corcoran got a shot off to Emily Blackmore who was fouled . And had a free awarded
Sommer Grant stepped up to take the kick , and it finished in the net giving us the lead which we took to the half time break .
Both teams took to the field with Gusto for the second half … Cayla Dunphy , Kate McGrath and Ciara O Keeffe all had their work cut out for them , with the always reliable Ella Bailey on hand when needed .
A clearance from Ciara O Keeffe over the top , was run on to by Emily Blackmore who got the shot away and looked to have beaten the villa keeper, but the ball landed just short of the line , with Grace O Toole making no mistake in slotting it to the net to give the girls a 2-0 lead .
There was a 25 minute period where the exchanges were back and forth before Villa pounced slotting to the net to put the game back into the melting pot with ten minutes to go.
Our keeper was superb today and pulled off some fantastic saves and her communication and direction to her players today was great.
With this all the girls pulled together and saw the last ten minutes out for the win.
A very close encounter between both teams were hard work and determination got us over the line.
Okay Saturday was great and Sunday proved to be a Super one too.
U10s: the u10s Girls played against Piltown and had a hatful of goals to show for their efforts.
U14s: Played against Carrick Utd, and at one stage were 0-2 down but fought back to 2-2 only to see a crossbar deny them a win and then a late goal to take away the draw, but a great game all around.
U17s travelled unmass to the Villa on Sunday afternoon and came away with a famous 2-1 win. A full match report on this one to follow soon.
U12s: the U12 squad started their league campaign with a trip out to Kilmacthomas and came away with a 4-2 win.
U14s: the U14s went away to recent 20-21 league champions De La Salle and put in a fine display to record a 4-0 win.
U16s: Finally on Saturday afternoon the u16 squad went up to Carrick United and recorded a fine 3-1 win. This was a break through win for this team and capped a great display of teamwork.
Today we have 3 Schoolgirls teams playing matches. U10s against Piltown at 1:30 in Suir Crescent U14s against Carrick at 2pm in Suir Crescent U17s against Villa at 2pm in Villa. Good luck to all of the girls.
A beautiful sunny fresh day to kick off a new season for the Schoolboys leagues with Mooncoin Celtic fielding u12, u14 and u16 teams today.
Best of luck to all team players and coaches.
Also Coach Victor, Richie and Derek take a u13 Waterford Girls team to their first Gaynor Cup match today too, with 2 Mooncoin Celtic players in the squad, best of luck to all on their cup run.
Great opening start to the league for this seasons youths team away to Tramore on Wednesday evening. Other commitments and an earlier start this year and clashes left us to travel with just 11 players. Including some who never played up a level. That in mind it’s hats off on a super performance to win this game so well.
Some tactical changes and moves for some players seen them having to play in positions they were not used to and you could argue after that you wouldn’t even notice. Starting at the heart of the team where a huge performance from Adam Conway, Liam Quinn,
Jack Drennan at the back and Jonah O’Toole in goal kept Tramore at bay all evening.. the threat came from the wings where Alex Bailey was in a comfort zone and linked up with Adam so well… Lee Freyne on the left gave the Tramore defence a night to forget and sealed the nights performance with a hat trick!
Dominance in the midfield was key and new role for Kieran Fagan who added two goals and playing many thru balls for Sam Hartwell who finished a goal in normal fashion.
Abdullahi Mohammad used his pace and quick feet to support Kieran. Our Last goal was scored by Stephen Foran. Matthew Morahan covered every blade of grass twice and put in a great performance to be involved in the goals and came to our call last minute when we thought we were going to be one short.
Great team effort by a great bunch who will only get stronger as the year goes on.
Monday 26th of July 2021 saw the curtain come down on the schoolboys season after what seemed an eternity of lockdowns due to Covid 19. We will give a quick run down on all our teams in what was a hectic 2 month period with games a plenty and little time for anything else. It was great to see all our schoolboy teams, except our u16s, play a fixture or two in our new grounds in Suir Crescent.
U11
Our u11 squad under Mike Molloy and John O’Connor’s watch had the privilege of playing the first fixture in our new ground against Park Rangers.
They also had games over the last number of weeks against Dungarvan, De La Salle, Piltown and Kilmacow . A busy few weeks for this young squad with the majority on the go 5 or 6 days a week with soccer and hurling.
With the new season starting in September, this short season will stand to them going into competitive football at u12 level.
U12A
Coaches Miguel Ponce De Leon, Colm O’Donoghue and Niall Owens will be happy enough after their games as the lads and lady improved with every game and won 3 out of the 5 games played in the u12B league. With the majority of this squad underage again for u12, this experience will be invaluable for the new season.
U12B
Entertainment and goals galore were the order of every game this squad were involved in as Eric Walsh and Wattie Foran over saw 5 games in which it took the lads a couple of games to click together and from there the confidence grew with excellent performances against Carrick and Bohs finishing off the short season.
U13
A goal that wasn’t given against Bohs to deny them 3 points and a single defeat against eventual league winners De La Salle denied this squad honours but Thomas Conway and Mark Quinn will be very happy with the performances of all involved as the lads and hot shot Emily Blackmore were only getting going as the season came to a halt. With players unavailable for a number of the games in the short season plenty to look forward to for next season when there is a full crew available. Good experience gained by all.
U14
A tricky number of weeks for Kevin Kennedy, Pat Walsh and Michael Power as the loss of players for a variety of reasons caused havoc with match days , but the lads got on with the job in hand . The lads on duty seized the opportunity and big improvements were clear to be seen thanks to more game time.
U15
Derek Tebay and JP Byrne had a squad that had 8 games to fit in and again slowly got going and improved with every performance . The change in this squad physically over the last few years has been staggering and they can look forward to U16 football with confidence.
U16
So near but yet so far for Mick Conway and Mickey O’Hanlon as near neighbours Piltown pipped this squad to league honours on the last day of this league.
Disappointing in the end but again this squad have a lot to look forward to as they step up to u17 and adult football.
A big thank you to all our coaches over the last number of weeks and also a well done must go to the parents who have been run ragged every day of the week between different sports.
Unfortunately no trophies from this short season, but progress is evident in our players and all our teams will be back training in a number of weeks refreshed and ready to go again for season 2021/2022.
