Last Man Standing Update: 33 fallers
33 fallers over the last two days and there could be more fallers with 20 picking Leicester tomorrow night.
Congratulations to the 67 entries through to round 3.
4th Division Cup Result Mooncoin Celtic 1 Tramore 3
A slick Tramore outfit from the 4A league were too hot to handle for the lads but they put in a mighty effort throughout and on another day it might just have gone their way. Shane Twomey got the goal on the day and chances were passed up with the score at 1-1 before Tramore got their nose in front and sealed it with a late 3rd goal.
U12D Mooncoin Celtic 2 – Bohemians 1
It was great to be back in action and the Ashgrove pitch was well laid out for the visit of Bohemians.
There was a quick hectic start to the game with over a months worth of football coming out in a 5 minute spell with a few chances for both sides but it was Mooncoin that took the lead with a fine shot from Sean O’Donoghue.
There was great skill to see from both sides with individual breaks and some fine passing. On the 15 minute mark the Mooncoin forwards but pressure on the Bohs defence and in the blink of an eye Sean O’Donoghue had the ball in the net again.
A minute or 2 from tip off Sean took a fine shot from outside the box which crashed against the cross bar and out of play. Nearly the hatrick but then Bohs got a foothold in the game and pulled a goal back which was full deserved.
The 2nd half was full of drama Bohs hit the bar and post a few times and there was fine saves from Cathal too. Not to be out done the Bohs keeper had to save from Ben, Conor, Ella and Charlie.
Mooncoin had mastered the break from defence to attack and while Bohs were great at applying pressure there was always a chance Mooncoin would score too.
In end there were no goals in the second half and Mooncoin ran out winners.
Fair play to the whole squad, it was a true team effort from all 12 players. This team remains unbeaten in 2020 and they just can’t wait for the next match.
U12A Result Southend 0 Mooncoin Celtic 2
An excellent team display in what was a very difficult morning for football with a horrendous swirling wind to contend with. We took the lead midway through the first half when josh McLoughlin raced onto a Darragh Conway through pass to finish with a lob. The ever dangerous Josh was then brought down outside the box a few minutes later and up stepped Darragh Aylward to score a free kick that Ronaldo would be proud of. We could have added to our tally with Oision, Anil and Darragh Aylward going close but the Southend keeper was in fine form again. Great effort from all 11 players involved in tough conditions.
3rd Division Cup Result Dungarvan Celtic 1 Mooncoin Celtic 3
A deserved win in tricky conditions with goals coming from Kipper with the first two and a Niall Madden free kick sealing victory to send the lads through to the next round. Good display by all involved.

3rd Division Result: Mooncoin Celtic 1 Kilmacow 4
A derby in the mud of Ashgrove was always going to be a sticky affair with high flying Kilmacow red hot favourites coming in to this one. Heavy underfoot conditions didn’t make for pretty football and it was Kilmacow who took a deserved lead with a neat header. A couple of good saves by Derek Tebay kept the lads in it and they went in 1 down at half time. The second half saw a little improvement but Kilmacow scored a super second to put daylight between themselves and us. Silly mistakes cost us with the 3rd and 4th goal and we can have little complaint about the result. JP Purcell got our goal on the day with a neat finish.
Girls Under 12 Result: Mooncoin 3 Cappoquin Railway 2
The girls finally got the result that their hard work and talent deserves. An early morning pitch inspection saw that the match went ahead in muddy but dry conditions. Noel Lavery did an excellent job, as usual, refereeing the game. He encouraged and helped the girls on both teams throughout.
The story of the first half was dominated by the Dobbyns; Hannah in goal and Ella up front. Hannah blocked everything that came her way and Ella scored an outstanding solo goal to give Mooncoin a deserved lead. Lucy Cuddihy was also outstanding up front and was unlucky not to get on the score sheet. The Cappoquin goalkeeper was very tall and almost had to duck to avoid hitting her head off the crossbar.
Our defense was resolute with Kayla showing why she is on the Waterford development squad, and Sadhbh and Grace clearing ball after ball. Grace managed to repeatedly win balls that weren’t even close to 50-50. Stephanie replaced Sadhbh after 20 minutes and Saoirse Drennan came on at half time; it is hard to belive that Stephanie and Saoirse played a camogie blitz before this game. Where do they get their energy?
Cappoquin pulled one back in the second half, but this seemed to spur Mooncoin on to even greater efforts. Saoirse Corcoran covered every blade of grass and Aoibhe Rees finally got the goal that she so richly deserved. On another day Aoibhe could have had 2 or 3 more. Aoibhinn O’Donnell replaced Hannah in goal and pulled off a number of great saves. Eventually though, Cappoquin pulled back a second goal and the worry was that we would not get the three points that we deserved.
In the end it was Saoirse Corcoran who popped up to put away an excellent pass from Aoibhe to give us the lead which we would not relinquish. Cappoquin had an excellent player in the middle of the field who, it turns out, plays inter-county camogie for the Waterford u14 team. Sophie Scahill tracked her from one end of the pitch. It really was a thing of beauty to see Sophie, Sadhbh, Saoirse Corcoran, Saoirse Drennan and others tackle this girl who was physically so much taller than them.
This was a great win for a great group of girls. Dee and Padraig.
4th division result: Johnville 2 Mooncoin Celtic 1
Best performance of the season do far by this young squad. The lads flew out of the blocks and could have been a few up with plenty chances missed. Ian Synnott scored after 15 mins and chance after chance came along after that but still no second goal. Chucky Norris had a goal disallowed direct from a corner much to everyone’s dismay and Neville Synnott rattled the bar. Johnville scored with 10 mins left to make it 1-1, a Johnny McGrath foul resulted in a late penalty for Johnville to make it 2-1. A sickening finish after a great performance.
Best players on the day were chucky, blackie, Johnathan Power and the youthful Mick Dwyer.
