Leaders Seaview came and snatched three points today but the lads can be proud of their performance as they matched Seaview throughout. All Seaview had throughout was two chances, 1 from a corner in the last few minutes of the first half which was scored and the second in the last minutes of the game when we were pressing for the equaliser and we got caught on the break. Robbie Doherty could have had a hat trick today only for the Seaview keeper and the cross bar. Bad result but good performance, man of the match was a towering display from Sean Kearns.

WSFL Under 14C League Mooncoin Celtic 2 vs Bohemians C 5
Disappointing outcome to this game after being completely on top for the first 20 mins. It was really a game of two halves with the wind playing a big factor in both halves. We opened the scoring early with a great run from Sam Hartwell to finished past the keeper. Bohs equalised against the run of play but we scored again with another run from Sam who had the beating of the defence every time. Tom Conway was unlucky with a long range effort and Lee Freyne also. Two good balls in from the left from Tom went just passed us and unfortunately we only went in 2-1 up with the wind at our faces in the second half. Brian Dunphy, Adam Conway and Mike O’Keeffe kept pressing through the Centre however Bohs made a change in the second half and it made the difference. Mikey Cronin filled in at left back and did very well. Alex Bailey and Liam Hogan were solid again at Centre half. Denis Kinsella started upfront and despite some great efforts was unlucky on few occasions. Jake Moore saved a penalty in the second half but bohs pounced on the rebound. Aaron Fewer and Matthew Morahan came on late in the second half and played a part.. Man of the match today was Daniel Roberts who played out of his comfort zone at right back but won everything came his way. We were missing key players today which was a pity because this game was there for the taking however we will learn from it and regroup. Hard luck but a great effort.

Youths result: Abbeyside 1 Mooncoin 5
Our trip to abbeyside yielded the 3 pts with a superb team display.
The lads were disappointed with their performance last sunday and turned it around this week to turn in the best 90 mins of the season so far.
Straight from the start they set a high tempo by chasing down every ball and passing with great confidence throughout the team.
The midfield trio were dominating their patch and gave themselves and the front men plenty of chances to get off the mark.
The first goal was scored by Dylan from the penalty spot after Conor sent Dan Cleary through and the centre half stopped his run with a clumsy body check .
Dylan was on the scoresheet again with another penalty after he was flattened himself after a great run through the home defence.
A bit of complacency set in and Abbeyside finished the half the better side and were rewarded when a shot hit the post and got a fortuitous rebound off Darragh .
We started second half with real intent on burying the game as quick as possible and two quick goals in succession by James Delahunty put the game beyond the home side .
Goal number 5 arrived from the ” new boot” of the rampaging Jack Ryan when he rifled a shot to the top corner from the right wing.
A top class performance from all involved today keeps us near the top of the table going into a few weeks break for cup games.
Full time 5 – 1
Big thanks again to the parents for giving up their afternoon getting the lads there .
U14 Girls result: Mooncoin Celtic 3 Villa 4
A rip roaring contest to get the older girls going with impressive displays from all girls from both clubs. Villa raced into a 3 goal lead with our girls getting to grip with the game but back they came with Ciara O’Keeffe burying a free kick before half time.
The second half started slow but goals from Ciara O’Keeffe and Emily Blackmore to level things up but the Villa nicked a winner in the last five minutes.
A brilliant refereeing performance from the great Falla Wall who helped both teams through the contest when required.
A defeat in the end but the smiles afterwards made it seem like a victory. The first step taken in what we are sure will be a great season. Brilliant support on the line for a brilliant performance from all the girls.
Girls under 10
Our girls under 10 team kicked off their season against a strong Bohs team who had that little bit more experience than our debutants.
A good game was had by all 12 girls. On to the next one.
2A result: Red Star 2 Mooncoin Celtic 0
From start to finish it looked like only one team was going to take three points here. Dominating from the off, the lads pushed and pushed throughout the game but couldn’t get the breakthrough that they deserved. Chances came and went throughout both halves but no goals.
Goalkeeper Jamie Moore was a spectator for nearly the entire game. Unfortunately on 88 minutes, a free kick across the six yard box ricocheted off a defenders knee and in to give Red Star the lucky break required.
A second breakaway goal right on full time saw three points go to Red Star. The luck is not with the lads at the moment but it will turn. Great squad performance.
