Sports Capital Grant Application 2023

In the last week, we have submitted our application for funding towards an astro turf training area as part of the 2023 Sports Capital Programme. This will be the next stage of the development of Suir Crescent and will be crucial to enable our ever expanding club to train all year round in all weather conditions. We have applied for €200,000 and will be looking for the support of all local councillors and TDs in our quest for funding. To date over €520,000 has been invested in Suir Crescent, which is down to the people of Mooncoin supporting the development and successful grant applications in recent years. Fingers crossed, we will be starting the next phase of our impressive grounds soon enough.

PDP 2 Course

Well done to our 22 club coaches,15 female coaches and 7 male coaches, who completed the PDP2 course on Saturday in scorching sunshine in Suir Crescent. . Thanks as always to Will Kinsella, FAI Development Officer for doing a brilliant job on the day.

New dugouts in place

At last we have had a dry spell of weather to get our dugouts dropped in place. Massive thank you to Peter Brennan of Ashgrove Transport for moving the dugouts today👏, thanks to Watmór for providing the base layer for housing the dugouts, thanks to Eric Walsh for holding the spirit level too and finally a massive thank you to the company who sponsored these dugouts, again……An incredible gesture 👏.

Former player signs for Waterford FC

The very best of luck to one of our former players, Ethan Owens, who has signed with Waterford FC and is sure to have a big future in the game. From a young age in the academy, Ethan was destined for big things due to his hard work on the training ground and working hard out in his back garden in all kinds of weather since a young age. Ethan follows in the footsteps of Daniel Ponce de Leon, who is having a really good debut season for the young Blues ⚽⚽⚽⚽

Mooncoin Celtic Soccer Marathon 2023

Last Sunday we held our annual soccer marathon which was followed by our end of season awards. A big crowd came through our new gates and enjoyed a lovely sunny afternoon with plenty of fun had among coaches and players in all games and cross bar challenges. We finished with our player of the year awards for season 2022 /2023. A big thanks to everyone that helped set up for the day, Wild Willow Coffee Trailer for pitching up for the day and our two chefs Adam Cunningham and Mark Quinn for running the BBQ. Thanks must go to Mondo’s Takeaway for sponsoring our crossbar challenge prizes. Final thanks goes to everyone that sponsored our Soccer Marathon, it was very much appreciated.

A birds eye view

We had an eye in the sky during the week to showcase some of the work done in the last 12 months at a cost of just under €160,000.

None of this would have been possible without the support of everyone in our 300 club and everyone supporting our 50 50 draw. Thank you for your continued support.

Ladies League: Mooncoin Celtic 0 – 3 Villa

Our young ladies side entertained Villa in sunny conditions and an even first half saw chances for both sides with both goalkeepers equal to anything thrown at them, nil all at half time.

The second half saw an early goal for Villa and a second was added after a scramble from a corner. Try as we might we couldn’t breach the Villa back line.

Villa killed the game off with a breakaway goal and deservedly took the three points. A few new positions tried out for a few of the girls and we’ll take the positives in to next week away to Park Rangers.
