Our academy boys and girls moved under the lights in Suir Crescent for this week and continue to show great improvements.
We would not be able to accommodate our 60-70 kids weekly without the dedication of our academy coaches who help nurture our young players. 👏👏👏👏👏 To all our coaches, young and not so young.
Emily Blackmore was in top form this evening and continues her excellent record this season after bagging four goals for Waterford u16s against South Tipperary this evening in the SETU Arena.
👏 Well done to Ella Brennan and Aoibhe Rees also for their continued involvement in this squad.
The League of Ireland Academy programme was launched today and officially kicks off on Saturday, with local man Daniel Ponce de Leon taking part given he recently signed from Mooncoin Celtic to the Waterford FC U14 academy.
We will be watching out for Daniel in the next few weeks and months, as he gets to play Bohemians of Dublin, Wexford FC, Shamrock Rovers, Cork and many other national teams across the county.
We wish him and his team the very best of luck in the new 2023 LOI Academy season.
Our youngest u10 girls headed to Faithlegg this morning for a run out against Park Rangers in sunny conditions on a fresh spring morning. Plenty goals scored by both teams with lots of positives to take from it.
A fierce contest today in sunny Piltown with little between the teams . Our u16s took to the pitch against Piltown for an afternoon kick off .
Both teams were very disciplined at the back and for us today Sophie Scahill commanded the back four , she took control from the first kick and was consistent throughout , along with Eimear Quinn , Molly Murphy and Saoirse Corcoran .
On the 34th minute , a well taken corner from Eimear was met by Niamh Reddy who made sure the ball finished in the net , scoring her first Mooncoin Goal.
Emily Blackmore , Molly Long and Ella Brennan played some lovely through balls to Eimhin O Donohue, whose work rate today was phenomenal. And Kate McGrath worked tirelessly in the middle to keep the ball on the move .
But hats off today to keeper Sadhbh Kirwan , who in the last ten mins , when Piltown were pressing hard to find the equaliser, kept her cool and pulled off some great saves ,
Mooncoin came away with the three points in a very evenly matched and enjoyable game.
Something had to give this morning as these two teams started the morning in search of their first point of the season.
An even enough first half saw our girls take the lead from an own goal after a great delivery by Lexi Walsh. Villa responded with a tidy finish of their own just before half time.
A different mooncoin team appeared in the second half and brilliant displays from our back three and Courtney O’Shea Power saw us go 3-1 ahead with goals from Courtney and Taylor but villa came back and scrambled a second goal to leave a nervous finish but solid goalkeeping and defending saw the girls secure their first win.
We welcomed Ballinroad to suir crescent this afternoon and both teams paid their respects before the game observing a minute’s silence for the late Kate Quinn who was laid to rest this morning.
Both teams were evenly matched and ballinroad were first to score. We had a few missed chances and ballinroad got a 2nd just before half time. Jay dunphy got one back for us minutes into the 2nd half with cathal morahan scoring another belter to make it 2-2. Conor phelan was unlucky not to score near the end.
The back line were superb again today. Final score was 2-4 to Ballinroad.
TJ was captain away to Ballyduff in a game between 8th and 9th. Some great saves from Tyler and later on from Jake were the highlights in what was a game of few chances for Mooncoin. Tl
The final score was flattering to the hosts as Mooncoin were more open at the back in the second half while pushing for a goal.
