School Boys/Girls and Junior League Football in South Kilkenny
A tough opening game for the girls in Kilrush Park, home of the Senior Ladies League Champions, in a game against an impressive home side who done the basics well.
A solid start to the game saw Dungarvan take the lead but Siobhán O’Donnell equalised very quickly. Dungarvan then went in to cruise control and put away 5 goals without reply. A tough day but better will follow we are sure.
This week saw the final leg of the installation of LED floodlighting in Suir Crescent and it is certainly impressive.
Big big thanks to all for their work on this project from Watmór Construction and Civil Ltd, Paul O’Toole and Piltown Engineering and finally John Ryan with Germar Electrical for the final push. Projects like these don’t come cheap and it would not have been possible without The 300 Club Syndicate.

Sunny morning away to Villa was the destination for the u13s first match of the season. Opening 15 minutes was cagey with both sides sussing each other out. 5 minutes later Villa opened the scoring with a cross ball diagonal that the left winger timed his run to hit the ball past Bradley from close range.
In the second half we made a few changes and were stronger going close a couple of times but it wasn’t to be.
A close match ended with lots of Mooncoin pressure but no show for it. Bradley pulled off a couple of excellent saves to keep us fighting till the final whistle.
Our youngest group continued their good form in sunny Suir Crescent with goals galore in the first half with Billy Fielding , TJ Curran, Rueben Owens and Eoin Barden among the goals.
Great start from an eager bunch.
A tight contest with two evenly matched teams going toe to toe in warm conditions in Suir Crescent this morning.
Chances were few and far between as defences and goalkeepers stood firm throughout with Ferrybank nearly nicking it at the end. A solid start for this talented group.
We had a couple of visitors to our new grounds recently and both were very impressed with what they viewed and also heard from all present. Simon Coveney, Minister for Foreign Affairs and John Paul Phelan TD were accompanied by local councillor Patrick Dunphy and members of the local branch of Fine Gael.
We recently installed our Defibrillator in Suir Crescent at the front of our dressing rooms.
This would not have been possible without the grant we received earlier this year from Kilkenny LCDC, for which we are extremely grateful.
A game of two halves with a dominant first half put in by our girls but try as they might, that elusive breakthrough eluded them. Chance after chance after chance but no finished product. Park Rangers got on top just before half time and continued their period of dominance by scoring the crucial goal from an angled drive.
The away side continued to stay on top but luckily good goalkeeping and the woodwork kept the score at 1-0. As time ticked on, only a half chance came our way and Park Rangers held out for the 3 points.
A disappointing end to the season but the girls can be proud of the debut season in a really competitive league, especially the second half of the season where the younger girls grew in confidence. Plenty of positives to bring on to next season.
After a disappointing season last year Mooncoin U14B made a great start at home to Park Rangers, winning 7-5 in their first game on Saturday.
All players impressed with their skills and determination and played a great attacking game and were unlucky not to score more. Goal scorers were: Cathal Morahan – 1, Finn – 2 and Dylan McGrath – 1. Aoibhe Rees was outstanding and scored a hat trick in her debut appearance and is a great asset to the team.
Last Man Standing update due to the postponements of 3 fixtures in the Premier League this weekend, Last Man Standing will resume in a couple of weeks time after the international break.
