U14b Boys: Mooncoin Celtic 1 – 0 De la Salle

Big game today with the league leaders coming to Suir Crescent, we knew this was going to be a battle and it certainly lived up to that billing. The game started off end to end with lots of passing by both sides on heavy ground, we were first to make the breakthrough with lots of pressure we caused down both wings we won a corner took by Anil which went low across the box which Emily latched onto and send home a screamer to put us one up.

At halftime we spoke about how we expected Dls to lift there intensity which we would have to match, which we did with some unreal tackles especially in midfield which was impressive, but what impressed the most was the teams will to pass in tight areas under press and we’re unlucky not to get a few goals in the game.

Credit to all the team for the performance and makes it hard to pick a mom, but we agreed it had to go to Liam Mackey for an all round performance on the left wing the whole game was outstanding. One last note it was great to see De La Salle set up for a handshake at the end of the game after all these kids going through nearly 2 years of restrictions,

I think we have gained even more respect for De la Salle 👏🏻.

U13b: Bohemians 1 – 2 Mooncoin Celtic

On the run in to Christmas there was a holiday treat this Saturday as Bohs and Mooncoin played a stormer of a match under the lights at Poleberry.

The 1st half had the two evenly matched sides exchange a few chances but it was Bohs that took the lead just 5 mins before half time.

The Mooncoin boys raised themselves during the break and raised their game as 5 mins into the 2nd half they scored a great team goal finished off with great aplomb by Canice H. from right back.

No more than 2 minutes later and it was 2-1 to Mooncoin as Conor W. got a goal he richly deserved for all his hard work.

There was then a flurry of chances created by Bohs, but Eoin T. in goal was super.

Mooncoin kept to their game plan, and may have made it three to seal the game with a great passing move but the final shot just clipped over the Bohs crossbar.

The final whistle was a welcome relief and meet with great shouts of joy as the boys closed out the year on a high.

Some great displays across the whole team with a shout out to Fintin M. who made his debut at this age group.

U11b: Mooncoin Celtic 1 – 0 Villa

A hard fought first half saw very few chances for either side as both teams gave nothing away at the back.

Villa came out strongly second half and had opportunities to go ahead but for a number of fine saves by Fionn on goal. Villa even had a goal disallowed for offside.

Mooncoin’s midfield began to take control in the last few minutes however and when a loose ball fell to Charlie, his shot looped over the Villa keeper’s head to give our boys a 1-0 lead.

The Mooncoin lads ensured the scoreline remained intact for a first league win of the season and just in time for Christmas. They now leapfrog Villa to go at least 6th in the table.

A coach on the rise

Congratulations to JP Byrne, coach at U14 Girls and U16 Boys and also part time coach for a few other squads and semi-part time referee, who recently completed the FAI PDP2 footballing coaching course and well on his way to being a future Ireland international coach.
