There’s a kiddy excitement from adults young and old as the Waterford Junior league season is about to get underway and Mondo can’t wait to see how the Mooncoin Celtic 3rd Division team will kick off the new season.
A great end to the 2020-21 with 2 good teams duking it out in the RSC with Ethan Owens grabbing the all important goal to seperate the teams.
Mooncoin Celtic sported their brand new kit and with the new shirts came refreshed confidence as the team played ball stride for stride with a good Bohemians squad.
While the tie was tight Mooncoin hit the post twice, skyed a penalty and only for 2 really great saves from the Bohs keeper the score line could have been different.
It was a great way to finish off the season, and we here at MCFC central are all sure the summer break and good pre-season will see this team shake up the u13 league next year.
Disappointing end to a great run. Today’s game was a fierce contest and Piltown had enough in the tank to see it over the line.. our goal coming today from Adam Conway. Most importantly we need to take as many positives from this and build on it and roll into the Under 17 season with heads held high. A great turn out to support these two teams. A great squad in numbers the whole season and the hard work was put in on the training pitch all year. Jonah O’Toole, Alex Bailey, Ciara O’Keeffe, Tom Conway, Conor Dermody, Denis Kinsella, Sean Lennon, Liam Hogan, Adam Conway, Stephen Foran, Sam Hartwell, Lee Freyne, Cian O’Sullivan, Matthew Morahan and Daniel Roberts made up today’s squad.. Keep the heads up… We will bounce back and go again.
Big thanks to Graham O’Mahony of Costcutter Mooncoin Stores for sponsoring a new set of jerseys for our U12 side.
A big thanks to another local business backing the youth of Mooncoin and ensuring they look the part on the pitch.
The most anticipated game in a very long time takes place this weekend …. and all here at Mooncoin Celtic are buzzing. A top of the table U16 home tie against Piltown, were the winners take a league title and some bragging rights for the summer.
This should be a great game, so warm up your vocal chords people, come decked out in green and roar the home team on.
All roads lead to the Grove on Saturday, 3:30pm.
Hon the Coin u16s.
Our 13s travelled to tramore for their 4th away game in 5 league matches. We knew this would be another hard fought encounter as there is little or nothing between the majority of the teams in this division. We got off to a flyer when Emily pounced to score her 8th goal in 5 games a goal all of her own making. A fiercely contested midfield battle ensued which tramore came out on top for a period and they deservedly equalised before the break. We made a better effort in the 2nd period when the introduction of darragh sparked us into life and some loving passing led to Emily just shooting wide tramore had a chance to go ahead but Jack hearne pulled off an unbelievable save which Dixie said reminded him of Gordon Banks famous save, but nobody knew who he was taking about cause none of us are of that vintage. Our star of the match was Eoghan dermody who was magnificent in defence and has come on leaps and bounds in the last 12 months. Next up seaview celtic.
So the Euro’s are at the Semi-Final stage and we have a very interesting scenario emerging from the MCFC Euro Prediction competition.
While no one named all four semi-finalist, there is 1 person that named 3 of them and they have a nice lead in the competition. However that same person cannot get much from “Predict the total goals” nor “Name the top goalscorer” and so the 4 people chasing are in with a big shout to take home the prize money, which stands at over €350.
The majority of chasers are not really looking for more goals, but if Harry Kane was to score 2 more, or Ciro Immobile was to score 3 then it would make the final prediction table a really close run competition.
Best of luck to all participants, and enjoy the matches all the way to the final.
Superb result for the team today without really coming out of 2nd gear. Stephen Foran and Sam Hartwell gave the Bohs defence a hard time all day with both scoring a hatrick each in both halves of the game. Stephen with some lovely finishes coming off the wing and Sam scoring a lovely flick on header to stand out. No under 16 match is complete without an absolute screamer from Lee Freyne and Lee also added a second today… Adam Conway was arguing with his luck after several chances went amiss however pure gut seen him slot home a lovely goal today to complete the 9… Jonah O’Toole lead us from the back in goal with a solid performance… a strong and progresssive back line of Alex Bailey, Tom Conway, Conor Dermody and Denis Kinsella and without a doubt Denis’s best game this season.. central midfield engines of Sean Lennon and Liam Hogan played a huge part today. Ciara O’Keeffe, Cian O’Sullivan, Matthew Morahan and Daniel Roberts all came off the bench and gave a great account of themselves… Man of the Match goes to Liam Hogan who didn’t stop for a breath… a great win which sets up a mouth watering league decider next Saturday against neighbours Piltown in Ashgrove at 3.30pm…. Well done all great result.
Our younger group of boys and girls in academy finished up for the summer this evening with a nice casual game of ball and most importantly a nice casual ice cream or slushie. We hope to see all the kids back in September and hopefully some in our summer camp in August. Big thanks to all our coaches and helpers.
A very flattering scoreline to our hosts in what was a great advertisement for schoolboy football. We totally dominated the first 20 mins but couldn’t find a way past a resolute dls defence the homeside caught us with two sucker punches before halftime and somehow we went into the break behind. We were caught napping again early in the 2nd half to go 3-0 down cue the fightback we got the score back to 3-2 with 2 super goals from Liam Mackey and Ethan Owens and should have added a few more but for the last ditch defending from a very good dls back line. Dls caught us on the break twice in the dying minutes to make it 5-2 a scoreline which didn’t do our gangs footballing performance justice. Our star of the match tonight has to be shared with Liam Mackey and Ethan Owens.
