2B result: CARRICK UTD 1-3 MOONCOIN CELTIC.

Today our 2B side travelled to Carrick United knowing a win would take us top of table and following a 6 weeks with no fixture we got off to a slow start. For most of the first half Carrick retained possession but it was Mooncoin who were posing the most treat. Kevin Walsh gave us a great start after 15 minutes. A ball was whipped into the box by Synnott, met the head of Walsh who looped a header over the keeper and into the left corner of the net. By the half hour mark it was 2-0. Mooncoin broke away from deep inside their half, Synnott passed a ball across the box to Kevin Walsh and from 10 yards out made no mistake placing it into the bottom left corner.

Carrick clawed one back just before half time from a free kick. The ball was whipped into the box and headed home. In the second half Mooncoin found a foothold in the game. Substitutes Kavanagh, Doyle, R. Walsh and Savauge made positive impacts in the half.

It was Kavanagh who sealed the game at the death with a nice header from a free kick from Savauge to give us a fantastic result on what was a very murky afternoon in Tom Drohan Park.

Next up is De La Salle tomorrow week at home. TEAM: Tebay, L.Walsh, C.O’Hanlon, McGrath, J. O’Hanlon, Howley, Kelly, O’Brien, Synnott, K. Walsh, É. Walsh. SUBS: (all used) Kavanagh, Doyle, R. Walsh, Savauge, Moore.

U12 result: Mooncoin Celtic 1 Southend 1

A cracking game between 2 evenly matched teams. Eoin O’Callaghan continued his good form with another cracking strike to give Mooncoin the lead midway through the first half and they held firm with the defence led by David O’Shea and Ciara O’Keeffe leading by example. Jake Moore was a busy man in the second half with one world class save keeping Southend out but unfortunately the rebound was scrambled home. Eoin O’Callaghan went close with a couple of free kicks and Anthony Dunphy put in a superb shift up front with a non stop work rate.

A draw being a fair result but the improvement shown by this squad is testament to the hard work put in over the last couple of months by Derek Tebay and the kids themselves with slick passing and a never say die attitude standing to them in every game.

This squad face an away trip to Ferrybank in their next game in 2 weeks. Well done all.

Fixtures for the weekend

U8 away to Villa, kick off 11am, A lot of these kids are making their debuts tomorrow in the first of a number of games planned for the next few weeks.

U9 away to Ballyduff, kick off 11am. Miguel and his coaches will travel to Ballyduff after opening their season with a few promising displays against the villa the last day. Again, this squad will play a number of games over the next few weeks both home and away.

Tomorrow U12 at home to Southend, kick off 10.30. Derek Tebay’s side will hope to build on their first win of the season when they host a Southend team which contains a number of former Mooncoin players. Should be an entertaining tie for spectators.

U14 away to Ferrybank B, kick off 12.15

After the disappointing display against Carrick in their last outing, Dick and Connie’s side will be hoping for a positive reaction. Ferrybank will be no pushovers as last seasons encounters showed.
2B away to Carrick, kick off 2pm.

The lads kick off their season…… Sorry, the lads restart their season after a long break of 7 weeks. They travel for this top of the table clash in the first of 3 crucial fixtures which will go a long way to determine the outcome of their season. Credit to the squad, they have trained away in big numbers so fingers crossed they remain unbeaten and go back on top.

Sunday: 4th division, home to Crusaders, kick off 12pm. A noon kick off for the oldies who continue to train in big numbers. One goal will probably be enough in this one so hopefully with player manager Pedro Carroll returning from his Spanish travels the lads will secure 3 points.

Youths home to Tramore Rangers, kick off 2pm
With a change in management, we hope to see a change in attitude and results. A talented squad who haven’t fulfilled their potential yet this season will start afresh under the new management team who will hope to start with a win.

A very busy weekend on the playing front, all support is most welcome for our teams both home and away.

Catherine O’Brien

Best of luck to former schoolboys coach Catherine O’Brien and her other half Stephen Blackmore who are getting married tomorrow. May ye have many more years of happiness together.

Under 13 result: Mooncoin Celtic 0 vs Ballyduff 4

Another frustrating day for our under 13s who had the upper hand for the first half. A really strong start that was full of hard challenges. Lee Freyne started off the game full of energy and pace until a bad challenge hampered the rest of his game. A soft penalty was then awarded to Ballyduff which they duly converted and Mooncoin heads dropped.

Jake Moore pulled off some really nice saves today but got caught to what seemed an error to everyone else but with the ball over the line Jake thinking he had to take a goal kick. Ballyduff were awarded a goal when they continued on after the refs whistle froze in the severely low temperatures. The back 5 of Alex Bailey, Liam Hogan, Adam Conway, Denis Kinsella and Ciara O’Keeffe Clicked very well and they worked for each other all day.. Mike O’Keeffe and Eoin O’Callaghan teamed up well today. Tom Conway showed some real presence and made life difficult for the defence.

Sam Hartwell gave 100% and Will Cuddihy added life the the attack when he came on and three good introductions of Matthew Morahan, Aaron Fewer and Harry Walsh added to the game… onwards and upwards for this bunch. It’s coming… well done everyone.

U11 Blue squad

Our U11 Blue squad travelled to Ferrybank this morning and put on a superb exhibition of football. Goals in abundance from this squad who are starting to benefit from the training sessions together. Massive well done to all.

Fixtures for the weekend

U11Blue squad away to Ferrybank, kick off 10.30. This talented young group who continue to improve weekly will hope to build on recent weeks games where they are showing flashes of what they are capable of.

U13 home to Ballyduff, kick off 12.30. After Mondays defeat in Bolton, this squad remain confident regardless of the results. A more or less new team will get the 3 points to kick-start their season very soon. Hopefully Saturday is the day.
