The heavens opened just before kick off in Connors park and rained down goals for a highly entertaining 90 mins of football.
The playing surface was of the highest quality and both teams used the greasy surface to great effect .We started the game superbly and pressed the home side back in their own half for the first 10 mins and created a few good chances.
We took the lead on 15 mins when Dan Cleary picked up the ball outside the box and jinked his way through a few tackles before firing a super shot past the Villa keeper.
The pace of the game moved onto a different level after this and the home side gained the upper hand with relentless pressure and scored three before the half hour mark.
In fairness to the lads they kicked back into gear and finished the half the better side and Daniel Fewer Ward went close to getting a couple of goals back in the closing minutes of the half.
The home side made a couple of substitutions at half time and settled into the opening stages of the half better with some great passages of attacking football.
A lapse in concentration left Villa in for a soft 4th goal and a dubious 5 th followed soon after .
Tiring bodies forced a few substitutions and we got back into the game with fresh legs and quick counter attacking football.
Daniel was unlucky again when he hit the post and the rebound fell to Lee Tracey who dodged one defender only to be taken down by the next.
He dusted himself off to rifle the penalty to the roof of the net to make it 5-2…
At this stage the game was flowing at a frantic pace and Villa got in for a few chances only to find Darragh in stubborn form with a few quality saves. We got to within 2 goals of our hosts when Jack Ryan raced onto a loose ball in midfield and split the defence with a great pass for Lee to run onto and take it past the keeper and chip the retreating defenders for a top quality goal.
Unfortunately with our continuous attacking we left ourselves exposed at the back and Villa tapped in two more in the final minutes for a 7-3 victory.
A highly competitive and entertaining game that the lads gave everything they had and I’m sure they will have gained vital experience to help them progress in the league.
