Best Of Luck Hannah

All in Mooncoin Celtic wish the Waterford Schoolgirls Gaynor Cup squad, Coaches and our own Hannah Dobbyn the very best of luck as the Gaynor Cup kicks off tomorrow in UL in Limerick. This squad have been busy preparing with months and will have high hopes of going far in this prestigious competition.

Inaugural U11 Girls Tournament

What a day to celebrate girls soccer with the hosting of our first U11 Girls Tournament with the Watmór Cup on offer for the winners. 16 teams split in to four groups of 4 teams and 24 group games starting at 9.45 were played out with thrills and spills a plenty. Quarter finals followed with the dreaded penalties coming in to play with Southend and Ferrybank unfortunately exiting the competition in shootouts, Mooncoin Celtic and Ballinroad were also knocked out in the quarter finals. Tipperary outfit Clonmel Town were strong throughout but met a determined Park Rangers out fit in the semi final who met Villa in the final after Villa beat Tramore in the other semi final tie. The Champions League music blared out as both teams entered the pitch and a tense game followed with Villa edging it 2-1 and taking home the Watmór Perpetual Cup. Beatrice Lynch of Park Rangers picked up the player of the tournament award which was kindly Sponsored by Sheridan’s Trophies.
A truly amazing morning to see 160 girls showcasing all that is good about soccer, fun and lots of it.
We have to thank Kilkenny County Council for their help with a Community Event Grant which helped cover the running costs for the day. Also, thanks to Watmór Construction and Civil LTD for their continued support for the club. Thank you must go to all that helped with parking, setting up today and clean up afterwards. No ref…no game, we were very lucky to have four volunteers give their time to make sure it ran smoothly and ref 31 games between them. DJ Scoosh deserves a 👏 for her usual entertainment and of course a wee bit of drama along the way. Thank you to Sonya of Wild Willow Coffee for parking up and ensuring all were catered for on a sunny morning. A final thank you to all participating clubs, their supporters, their coaches and most importantly the young girls who played this morning.
Hope to see you all again next year.

U16A Girls Result

Piltown 4
Title chasing Piltown were the visitors on a sunny afternoon and the girls set their stall out early to contain the dangerous piltown attack. Losing Sophie early on to a broken collar bone did not help things but a penalty was tucked away by Lexi to send us one up. Gaynor cup keeper Hannah then saved a penalty and it looked like the girls would get to half time with the lead but two scrappy goals just before half time undone the hard work. An early goal in the second half killed off the game but the girls persevered and put it up to piltown in a physical battle throughout. A sloppy fourth saw piltown take the three points. Much improved by all the girls on duty.

3B League Result
Mooncoin Celtic 3
Piltown 4
A mad game littered with errors saw piltown take the derby honours. Goals on the night from DT McGrath with a double and James Blackmore weren’t enough unfortunately.

U18 Girls League Result
Carrick United 2
Mooncoin Celtic 1
A winner deep deep in to injury time for Carrick United saw them crowned league champions. The girls gave it their all back and took an early lead through Katelyn Moore but Carrick equalised with a tidy finish on the half hour. Emily was unlucky with an effort with ten minutes remaining before that late finish secured the title for Carrick. Congratulations to Carrick on the league win.

We held our weekly Eastgate Engineering sponsored Dixie Dribblers Academy session in fine weather and also hosted Piltown in u9 games. Congratulations to player of the week winners TJ, Oisin, Jack, Aria and Gianni 🏆⚽️.

High drama in piltown last Friday evening when it took a last gasp winner direct from a corner by Kevin to separate the sides. Fionn had scored in normal time but Piltown were full value for forcing the game to extra time. Cup final to come against Villa.

A very disappointing first half saw the boys three down at half time but the hurt was evident with how they hit back and possibly could have pushed Park Rangers closer with plenty chances created throughout. Robbie and Naoise

1B League Result
Kilmacow 1
Mooncoin Celtic 2
A tense derby in damp conditions was played out with plenty chances for both sides. Eric Conway done the business by stopping a penalty in the first half but couldn’t stop kilmacow taking the lead shortly after half time. A little reshuffle and tweak and Jamie Grace rose highest to nod home a long throw in that was flicked on. With ten minutes to go, another long throw was flicked on and this time Tadhg Derwin smashed home what proved to be the winner. Southend are next up for the boys as they continue to improve.

3B League Result
Ferrybank 1

A first win for Johnny McGrath’s charges with goals from Tommy Lennon, Adam Cunningham, Lee Freyne and Chris O’Hanlon and a very good squad performance. Piltown are visitors next Wednesday evening in what promises to be a tough game.

A final word of Congratulations to Molly Walsh and coaches JP Byrne and Ritchie Lynch and all the Waterford U13 Girls who won the U13 Inter League Shield last Sunday in Evergreen in Kilkenny.

A quick start by Ferrybank saw them lead after just 4 minutes against our young side who huffed and puffed throughout the first half and got a scrappy equaliser through Tommy Lennon just on half time. A much better second half saw us dominate with the winner eventually coming through Jason Sauvage after great work by DT McGrath. Three points gained and on to another away game against Kilmacow on Tuesday to come.

U17s Munster Shield Quarter Final : Lakewood 0 Mooncoin Celtic 1

U17 Girls
This morning, our u17 girls boarded a bus bound for Ovens. Co. Cork to play Lakewood Athletic in the Munster Shield quarter final. Our opponents are a premier team in the Cork league, but that didn’t faze our girls. In glorious sunshine, both teams gave everything on the pitch.

Full-time came and the deadlock hadn’t been broken. Extra time was called for, deep into the second half Amy was scratching her head trying to pick girls out to take penalties and with only 5 minutes remaining Ella Brennan got in front of her marker to face the goalie and casually chipped her to see the ball nestle in the back of the goal. Our girls held out to take their deserved place in the Semi Final.
Every girl that took part gave 100% and we as coaches are immensely proud of them.
Match day squad:
S Kirwan, A Hassett, M O’Keeffe, S Scahill, K Moore, M Murphy, A Rees, S Phelan, A Reddy, E Brennan, S Phelan, K Byrne, M Quinn, A Connery and B Vereker.

U12 Girls Cup Semi Final Result : Villa 0 Mooncoin Celtic 1

Following a dramatic end to the first game in Mooncoin 10 days previously, these two sets of players served up and absolute belter of a game and unfortunately there had to be a loser . Maria D got the all important goal to decide the tie. A massive thank you to all involved in getting this game replayed and hats off to Villa FC for their sportsmanship on the first day and agreeing to the game being replayed.
The girls progress to tomorrow afternoon’s final in WorkLab Connors Park against League champs Ballyduff. We are urging all involved in the club to get yourselves in to the final to cheer on the girls. Kick off 3:15pm
