School Boys/Girls and Junior League Football in South Kilkenny
The very best of luck to the Waterford U14 Gaynor Squad who embark on a week’s adventure in Limerick starting tomorrow and will hope to bring home a trophy.
Although none of our players made the final squad, coaches Dee Travers and Richard Long are on duty in what is sure to be a scorching week of weather and football.
Last night marked the final training session for our Exchange students Marie & Anna .
The girls joined us back at the beginning of this season , and blended right in to our Mooncoin Celtic Family on the U16/17s Girls teams .
The girls were a breath of fresh air to deal with and a credit to their family’s .
We had a going away feast of Pizza ,accompanied by some dodgy dancing and music choice . A wonderful end to a fantastic few months .
A scorching evening in Suir Crescent and two evenly matched teams went at it for the hour entertaining the large attendance.
Carrick were quick out of the blocks and took an early lead but birthday girl Lexi Walsh continued her hot form with an equaliser. There wasn’t much between the two teams from here on with the game swinging from end to end with Olivia Cronin and Siobhán O’Donnell keeping Carrick at bay.
The next goal was always going to be the winner and Taylor Mahon popped up to secure the three points in the girls final league match.
Well done girls and from that team photo with smiles all around , I think we can see they went home happy.
The boys were away Monday in the cup quarter final today against Kilmacow and rose to the occasion.
They started off slow as kilmacow scored a goal in the first 5 minutes. Not long after Oscar had to make a couple great saves as kilmacow could have wrapped the game up early on.
Teddy rattled the ball off of the crossbar. A goal came shortly after as a great team play from Teddy,
Tom and Pete was finished by Patrick to make it 1-1. Right before the end of the half Patrick gave a lovely pass to leave Teddy through who slotted it calmly into the bottom corner to bring us 2-1 up at the break.
Mooncoin dominated the game in the first 10 minutes of the second half when Patrick once again got the ball and left Pete through on goal who put it past the Kilmacow keeper to make it 3-1.
From the Kilmacow kick off they worked a nice play and nearly got a chance but Shay made a nice tackle and dribbled from the Mooncoin box past 7 players and smashed the ball into the roof of the net in what was a stunning solo goal.
The back 3 of Luke, Shay and Tom were very solid throughout the whole game with Oscar behind them. Teddy D. and Pete D. were very energetic in the centre of midfield and Aaron and Ted Mc on the wings.
Patrick put in a performance to be proud of up front getting a goal and 2 assists. Well done to all the boys on getting to the semi finals and we hope for more success in the near future.
After Extra Time.
Heartbreak for our younger U14 girls in the splendid St Nicholas Park where a real humdinger of a cup tie took place. It was end to end throughout with our girls leading 2-1 at half time thanks to Lexi Walsh and Anna Reddy.
Lexi continued her hot streak with another just after half time but Ballyduff were not done and dragged themselves back in to the game with their second.
The clock was just up and referee Owen Tubritt had his whistle ready to blow when Ballyduff equalised with the last kick of the game. Extra time saw a tired team succumbed to a Ballyduff side who kept at it in extra time and deservedly went through to face Dungarvan United on Tuesday evening in the semi final.
A brilliant season by this group has unfortunately ended and they will be a force next season at U14 level with everyone of these girls still underage next season again.
Massive thanks to the coaches and especially all the parents who have supported their daughters throughout a long season, through ups and downs.

An open game to begin with in the early stages but ironically the first goal was conceded as the game was beginning to settle.
Dungarvan’s first and second goals came after good work down their right side. A third was scored early in the second half and it looked like it was going to be one of those days until Tyler ran clear down the right and struck his shot high into the far corner.
Dungarvan replied with a fourth but the lads kept fighting on and won a late corner which landed to Kevin who bundled it just over the line.
The visitors tried to claim it wasn’t over but the ref overruled and allowed it to stand. Credit also to Viktor who made a tremendous save late on but despite our best efforts it finished 4-2 to the visitors.
This week, we have Garry Flood Landscaping on site in Suir Crescent carrying out the annual sanding, shockwaving and overseeding of the entire ground.
This type of maintenance is crucial and would not be possible without the support of so many through our 300 Club Syndicate and our 50 50 draws.
A disappointing result and end to the season for this talented bunch. There was very little between the two teams this evening in glorious Kilrush Park and the first goal was always going to be key.
We created a few decent chances in the first period but good goalkeeping and a couple of efforts just off target had the boys thinking it was going to be one of those evenings.
Dungarvan scored from a header from a great corner 5 minutes before the break. Second half saw it swing from end to end and both keepers were kept on their toes throughout.
A breakaway goal a few minutes from the end saw Dungarvan deservedly advance. Best of luck to Dungarvan United in the rest of the competition.
A very good season in A league football by this squad and they have a very bright future ahead of them.
The first round of the cup fell on Ted Mcloughlin’s birthday as the boys travelled to Ballyduff in what was sure to be a tight encounter.
We opened the scoring within the first 5 minutes as Patrick O Hanlon got a lovely strike from just outside the box in the bottom corner in off the back post.
We controlled the game in the middle of the park giving Ballyduff no chances until the end of the first half when they rattled the ball off the bar but Tom Fewer was there to get it out of the danger.
The second half was more of the same with our goalkeeper in Oscar O Keefe and back 3 of Luke Henebery, Shay Moore and Tom Fewer continuing there great run of form at the back and getting another clean sheet for the team.
Our midfield 4 of Ted Mcloughlin, Aaron Walsh, Teddy Dunphy and Harry Ahern did a great job in getting stuck in and creating plenty chances and helping out the defence when needed also.
Patrick O Hanlon had another great game getting his 5th goal of the season. Elliot Coughlan and Max Rowe also came on and put in a performance they should be happy with.
We’re sure that the boys will carry this run of form to Kilmacow in the quarter final.
