U16 Cup Final Day on Saturday

Tomorrow is the first of four(so far) Cup finals that the club will be contesting. League champions Ballinroad are standing in the way of our boys and silverware.

After an impressive semi final win last Monday against Ballyduff, the boys will be quietly confident and will be giving it their all in Tramore tomorrow at 2.30pm.

If at all possible, please get out to Tramore to support this squad in what we hope is a golden few weeks for the club. Best of luck to coaches Richard Long and JP Byrne and the boys tomorrow.

U15 Boys Cup SF Win in local derby

Cup semi finals are a nervy affair and when its a visit to your near neighbours even more is at stake.

Thursdsy evening saw us take the field in Kildalton. The 1st half was an even affair with both sides wrestling for control.

We had the best of the play and restricted Piltown to a long ball game. We played some nice football and it payed dividends when Robbie finished from close range to see us in front .

The lead only lasted for a few minutes as Piltown equalised from a corner. We hit the front just before the break as some fantastic work by Robbie saw him loft a beautiful ball onto the head of Marti and we hit the break 2.1 up.

We had a strong wind at our backs for the second period and we pinned Piltown back for the majority of the half. A fantastic run by Aidan resulted in a right footed shot low to the net from a tight angle.

From here on in there was only one winner from here as Robbie added a second after a mistake in the Piltown defence , followed by an Aidan header. The match was reaching a conclusion when a fantastic run by Liam had him beating 3 players and hitting and hitting a rasper only to see it saved with Jimmy showing quick reflexes to strike from close range shooting high into the net.

A fantastic squad performance sending us through to next weeks final against the winners of Tramore & Ballyduff.

We are heading into our last game of the season with the double in sight with the league already captured.
Goals : Robbie x 2, Aidan x2, Marti, Jimmy.

Mom: Aidan who turned the game on its head and Jimmy with his all round attitude tonight and all season.

Special mentions to Marti, Robbie & Canice .

Sanding, Sanding Sanding

The action never stops in Suir Crescent these days, today Garry Flood Landscapes was on site for the sanding and shockwaving of the pitches. This is vital maintenance work that will help maintain the playing surface to a very high standard every year.

This type of work along with other maintenance work would not be possible without your support through our 50-50 draw which is held every fortnight, so please keep supporting our Ladies Committee and purchase a 50-50 envelope in any local business or online.

U14 Girls Cup SF: Mooncoin 2 – 4 Dungarvan Utd

League runners up Dungarvan came to Suir Crescent for the cup semi final and what a game it turned out to be.

Mooncoin came out of the blocks fast and had plenty of first half chances.
It was Emily Cooney who broke the deadlock with a great run through the middle and a powerful finish to match the run.

Dungarvan equalised shortly before half time to send them in all square at the break.

Both team pressed hard in the second half but it was Mooncoin who stuck first with 7 minutes to go.

A deflected strike from Aoibhe Rees saw us take the lead. A late scramble in the box with a couple of minutes to go saw Dungarvan equalise again and the game was brought to extra time.
A goal in each half saw Dungarvan win the game.

This was a fantastic performance from every girl on the pitch and on another day the game may have gone our way.

4-2 to Dungarvan was the final score after extra time.

Heartbreak for the Mooncoin girls but the future is bright for this young team.

U16 Boys Cup SF: Mooncoin Celtic 2 – 0 Ballyduff

Ballyduff came to Suir Crescent for a nail biting cup semi final and a tough battle it proved to be.

A solid display by the defence and midfield meant Ballyduff were restricted to long range efforts which were no match for the in form Jake Moore in the goal.

A nice move from the midfield sent Marti one on one with the Ballyduff keeper and there was only one winner. 1-0 to Mooncoin.
Ballyduff pressed for an equaliser in the second half but another stunning finish from Marti sealed a place in the final for Mooncoin.

2-0 final score.

Fantastic work from everyone involved.

Cup Final will be v Ballinroad in Tramore Saturday 28th at 2.30. All support would be appreciated.

U16 Girls Cup: Park Rangers 2 – 5 Mooncoin Celtic

Proudly Sponsored by Mooncoin Pharmacy , Main Street , Mooncoin .

Sunny Faithlegg set the scene for last nights u16 Cup quarter final between Park Rangers and Mooncoin.

Park Rangers gained the upper hand and went one nil up on the 10 minute mark, but Mooncoin dug deep , didn’t let their heads drop , and equalised inside five minutes , when Molly Long put through a ball to Emily Blackmore , who outstretched but managed to get the ball past the Rangers keeper and into the back of the net .

Ella Bailey and Niamh Reddy along with Luiseach and Sarah Walsh worked hard between themselves to keep any incoming threat at bay . With Alanah Tobin on full alert for anything that might slip past .

We went a goal up on the 25 minute mark when a fantastic clearance down field from Eimear Quinn was taken a little further down the line by Luiseach Dlwho gave an over head ball to Emily Blackmore , who took a touch in the air and sent the ball over the head of the Park Rangers defender coming to clear the ball and the Park Rangers keeper off her line .

Mooncoin led by a goal at half time ,,,, but ten minutes in to the second half Park Rangers came at us , scoring a superb goal from a very tight angle . To level the game up once again .

Mooncoin began to press once again , and were awarded an penalty on the 60 minute mark when Sommer Grant was taken down . Sommer , herself stood over the ball and calmly converted her penalty .

Less than ten minutes later , Sommer was moving towards goal after a clearance pass from Caoimhe Hartwell . While eyeing up a posssible shot on goal for herself , she spotted Emily Blackmore in a scoring position and got the ball to Emily who slotted home to make it a 2-4 score line.

Minutes before the full time whistle some great passing between Ella Brennan and Aoibhe Rees , resulted in Aoibhe getting a shot off across goal that Emily Cooney helped in to the net .

The game finished
Park Rangers 2-5 Mooncojn Celtic

Stand out performances tonight for Kate McGrath and Caoimhe Hartwell , who both put in a massive shift for the Mooncoin jersey last night .
