U16 Girls: Mooncoin Celtic 4 – 1 Dungarvan Utd

Dungaran made the journey to Mooncoin today for this u16 Clash.
It was a cold and windy day , but Mooncoin came out on top in a 4-1 game .

Our first goal came on the 10 minute mark when an Eimear Quinn Corner , looked to be cleared by Dungarvan, however Ella Bailey happened to be in the right place at the right time , and took control of the ball before having a shot , that beat the Dungarvan keeper and ended up in the back of the net .

Dungarvan got straight back into it . Mooncoin pressed hard and kept the ball in our own half getting plenty of shots away , the Dungarvan keeper was in form today had plenty of great saves .

Sarah Walsh rattled the net on the 20 minute mark after winning a ball out by the sideline and making the run towards goal.

The home side went into half time 2-0 up .

The introduction of Fresh players after the half time break , livened things up again . And Emily Cooney struck home 5 minutes into the half . This was followed ten minutes later by a Luiseach O Donohue goal , a worthy reward for all her hard work on the wing today.

Standout performances today were Niamh Reddy , who’s phenomenal work rate paid off in dividends today , and work horse Emily Cooney , who seemed to play in every position on the pitch today.

Massive Credit must go to Dungarvan , as they put in a Fantastic performance today .

U12b Boys: Mooncoin Celtic 4 – 1 De la Salle

A sunny start in Suir Crescent for the u12s. De la Salle came out the blocks quickly but against the run of play Mooncoin scored on the 5 minute mark.Robbie won a corner and scored with a bullet header from a whipped ball in from Sam.

Shoetly after going ahead, Bradley made a fabulous reaction save at 1-0 that gave everyone a boost.

Robbie then turned provider shortly after and played Ethan through who ran half the pitch and took his goal well.

After half time Robbie won a penalty which Ethan converted. It was looking like our first clean sheet until DLS got a deserved goal with 5 minutes left.

Straight from the re-take Samuel played a ball up from the back which Robbie put in the corner to end the game. All 14 lads contributed to a great game of football.

U11b Boys: Mooncoin Celtic 1 – 3 Piltown

Kevin wore the armband leading the team out last evening against an imposing Piltown team.

The first few minutes saw very few chances at either end until Aaron broke away into the left of the eighteen yard box and his shot hit the near post having beaten the Piltown keeper. Sean had a couple of shots from distance throughout the half which were too close to the keeper.

As the game wore on Piltown grew into the game and were unlucky when Fionn turned a low shot around the far post at full stretch. Minutes later another fine save by Fionn was tipped onto the crossbar only to be nodded in by a Piltown forward. Tadhg, Kevin and Charlie had a busy end to the half in defence and we went into the break glad to be just a goal behind.

The second half saw fresh legs introduced but Mooncoin were still on the back foot. James and Killian coped well defending down our left side.

Kevin played his best match to date on the right side pressing the ball high up the pitch and creating opportunities. Unfortunately Piltown got their second direct from a free kick after a foul on the edge of the area. A third followed soon after when Piltown got on the end of a stray pass and finished in style.

All was not lost and at the other end a handball in the opposition box resulted in a penalty to the home team. Sean stepped up and struck the ball to the keeper’s left.

Another handball outside of the box minutes later gave rise to a free kick. Cian hit a swerving shot which was  palmed away for a corner. Mooncoin pressed late but to no further avail.

The game finished 1-3. Many thanks once again to our jersey sponsors Dragonz Den.

Boys U11d: Mooncoin Celtic 1 – 0 Piltown

Through a dull grey evening there was a shining light of talent coming from Suir Crescent as two very good teams, in Piltown and Mooncoin, played out an excellent match at the u11d level.

This young u11 team also got to sport their new kit which was kindly sponsored by Repair my Windows and Doors, through Martin O’Brien and on the shirt sleeves Queen Hair and Beauty by Lyndsey Kelly. It’s great to see local businesses investing in the youth of Mooncoin and not only that but Martin and Lyndsey, along with Derek & Shane have invested their time in helping to train this fine group of lads, all of which goes a long way towards the continued growth of the club in the area.

U17 Girls: Bohemians 1 – 0 Mooncoin Celtic

Today’s fixture looked to be in doubt for this Mooncoin Girls U17s team right up until the eleventh hour , as we weren’t sure we would have numbers available to field . But we needn’t have worried , as the 14s and u16s girls stepped foward to help their U17 club mates.

The game started with our girls very nervous , and conceding a goal within the first 5 minutes due to lack of communication when defending a corner, the girls heads dropped slightly. But that didn’t last long, the team began pulling together and were hunting down and fighting for every ball .

Luiseach O Donohue played out of her normal winger position today and stepped in to help as part of our back four with Sophie Scahill , Kate Mc Garth and Ciara O Keeffe . They settled in and worked tirelessly for keep any Bohs attack under control .

Emily Blackmore donned the Goalkeeper gloves today and stepped between the posts . Coming up the pitch on the 25 minute mark to take a free kick in the hopes of an equaliser, that unfortunately didn’t result in the back of the net .

The game went to the break at 1-0 to Bohemians

In the second half we pressed and tried to get the ball up to Bohs half of the pitch as much as we could … We made full use of the subs bench today and all the girls saw some game time .

The result today didn’t go out way , but it was wonderful to see the girls all line out today for their club and for each other .
