Oldie

An oldie but a goodie sent into us by Brian Conway, can you spot him in this picture? This photo was in The Kilkenny Reporter recently. It is great to see some of these men still involved in the club today. Can anyone guess the year?

Youths Result: Mooncoin Celtic 1 Carrick Utd B 4

A tired and jaded display from the boys who tried to get going from the off but it wasn’t to be. A dominant first half with numerous corners and free kicks being wasted, the pressure never told and Carrick took the lead with a 50/50 ball ricocheting to the net. A stern half time chat did little to change things and it was Carrick who took their chances to take a deserved three points to keep their 100% record in tact. Kieran Fagan notched the goal today and Jay Langford was the pick of our lot. Disappointing day at the office for the boys but they will bounce back in a couple of weeks and will be a match for any team once fresh.

LMS Update

We have a winner after Spurs, Crystal Palace and Everton all left people down and it was left to the mighty Arsenal to leave our u14 coach Derek Tebay as the Last Man Standing and secure the €500 prize.
Thanks to everyone who entered and a new one will start in two weeks time.

3rd div result St. Saviours 1 Mooncoin 1

The 3rd division traveled to st saviours this evening in search of their first win of the season but came away with a draw.
They Dominated the first half with multiple chances squandered and saviours being reduced to long range efforts.
The second half was more of the same with guilt edge chances missed the game turned on its head when the referee to the bemusement of everyone on the field blew for a saviours penalty when Moore came out 1v1 taking the ball and man but the ref saw it differently.
1-0 saviours.
The goal seemed to spurn on the lads and a couple of changes freshened things up and the extra energy let to more chances being created. A great save from Moore with 3 minutes to go proved crucial as we broke from the resulting corner through the middle and clever play from Scholsey allowed Adam Croke in to calmly tuck away a well deserved equalizer.
We pressed for the remaining minutes but couldn’t find the winner.
A great team performance and one deserving of 3 points but it just didn’t go our way.
Man of the match Derek Tebay who done everything up front but score.

WSFL Under 15c League Mooncoin Celtic 3 vs Carrick United 4

Thrilling encounter in Ashgrove this afternoon and an enormous response from the team after being beaten 7–1 by Carrick last week. Better preparation and a few training ground routines seen this bunch come so close to 3 pts today which they only deserved. Carrick were awarded a penalty early in the game which they converted and went 2-0 up with a well worked goal shortly after. A tactical change by introducing Diego Blanco Ibanez seen us turn into a different animal and we matched the Carrick engine and upped it we were by far the better side for the majority of the game and just before half time Lee Freyne responded with a cracking free kick. Minutes after Sam Hartwell converted to Equalize. The momentum was still there after the oranges and Jaffa cakes and with plenty of vitamin C on board we upped it again. Sam converted another great goal but our midfield was on fire at this stage. Adam Conway, Sean Lennon, Alex Bailey and Lee. Liam Hogan played a lovely holding role to be involved in everything. Dylan Conway at right back and Dennis Kinsella at left back turned in great games to where Carrick are at their strongest. Mikey Cronin was solid and made way for Diego in what was a tactical change Alex stepped back in his place and added great composure to the defence. Tom Conway came off injured in the second half and it seemed to upset our momentum and the Carrick forwards took advantage to see out the game with two goals. Ciara O’Keeffe came on in the second half and played a great game. Jonah O’Toole made some great saves and is settling in well since his move from Piltown. Stephen Foran and Matthew Morahan were our substitutes. The squad should be proud of today and we will march on to a great season ahead. Hard luck on the day but a proud performance.
