WSFL Under 14 C league Mooncoin Celtic 4 vs Tramore C 0

Great start to the season for the under 14 team with two wins out of two. Solid performance full of grit seen us take all 3 points. Great to see a full squad. Tramore started strong and physically gave us a huge challenge today and came knocking on the door on many occasions. But a resilient Mooncoin defence kept them at bay. Liam Hogan and Alex Bailey were immense and didn’t leave anyone through when challenged at Centre back. Ciara O’Keeffe put in a good performance at right back. Conor Dermody at left back was very solid and used his strength against a towering attack. Centre Midfield was where a lot of this game happened today and Adam Conway fought for everything today aided by Lee Freyne who put in a man of the match performance. Our first goal was from the penalty spot where Lee scored the first of his hat trick today. Brian Dunphy latched onto a pass from Tom Conway for the second goal. Lee Freyne scored two beautiful free kicks to take the game away from Tramore. Sam Hartwell was very effective again on the right wing and Eoin O’Callaghan linked well with Brian Dunphy all day. Mikey Cronin came on at right back and played well. Mike O’Keeffe & Daniel Roberts came on late in the game and added great pace to it. Other subs today were Denis Kinsella, Matthew Morahan, Aaron Fewer & Patrick Dermody. It’s great to have such a big squad and with 18 more games to play there will be loads of games for everybody. Great squad and a great result! Well done everyone!

Fixtures for Weekend

Tomorrow, u14 at home to Tramore C, kick off 11am
This squad had a great opening victory and will look to build on it against a Tramore side who are sure to be a stern test.

2A away to Dunmore, kick off 2pm
After two defeats on the spin this squad will be looking for a big performance to kick-start their season. Only 5 months have passed since they clinched the 2B league so they haven’t turned into a bad side overnight. Belief in each other and discipline will be key in what will be a tough encounter at the seaside.

Sunday: 4th division away to Dunmore, kick off 11am
Another trip to the seaside for the club as the oldies look to put in a decent performance. Big numbers continue to train which is bound to see this team clicking, when is the question?

Youths home to Waterford Crystal, kick off 2pm
The youth squad will look to build on a strong performance against Tramore Rangers and secure another three points. Training again in big numbers will see rewards as this squad is littered with talented youngsters.
Support as always is most welcome for all teams especially our kids.

Mooncoin Celtic AFC is with Catherine Blackmore.

Big shout out to young Emily Blackmore, who has been tracking down to Youghal every Thursday for the last 11 weeks training with the u12 Waterford/Cork Girls Emerging Talent squad. Today, this young girl attended school starting at 9.30 and finished at 3pm. At 3pm she slipped on the gloves for Gaelic football training with the girls school team and afterwards squeezed in the dinner and homework before scooting down the road to Cork courtesy of her chauffeur…mother Catherine Blackmore.

They arrived home just before 9pm, tired but buzzing. Unbelievable dedication and hard work by both mother and daughter to get to this stage and Emily is still under age again next season. Keep up the good work Emily and Catherine.

U12 Result: St Paul’s 1 Mooncoin Celtic 5

This squad got their first 3 points on the board with a comprehensive win against a young St Paul’s team. The lads played some lovely soccer with a man of the match performance from Paddy T Murphy on goal, and goals scored were 2 for Finbarr Purcell, 2 for Robbie Doherty and 1 for Matthew Roberts. Happy camp after this and lessons learned by both players and management after the first game.

Mooncoin Celtic AFC is feeling excited.

2A result Mooncoin 0 Villa 4

A second disappointing defeat in 2 games for the first team missing a lot of players .

The final scoreline didnt reflect the first half performance which was a half we dominated playing good football throughout , but couldn’t get the ball in the net .

We passed an pressed very well first 15 mins , but on 15mins a villa goal kick led to a through ball and o keeffe took down the striker which looked outside the box but penalty given an scored by villa .

We continued to dominate the rest of the half with Daniel synnott going closest to scoring . You would think after such a good half we would push on an get something but the opposite happened , with mouthing and petty arguments between players creeping in it was never goin to end well .

On 55mins villa striker beat our defence for pace an skid the ball to back post for 2 oncoming villa players 2-0. 15mins later we failed to clear the ball 3 times and villa buried the ball . And 5 mins later , villa striker ran through unchallenged to make it 4-0 .

A very bad result and things have to change quickly to get season back on track .

Team – derek tebay , chris Hanlon , ross o keeffe , wayne kelly , Jason Sauvage , Daniel synnott , Kieran o Brien , Ben keating , joey o Hanlon , Ian synnott , Johnny Kavanagh . SUBS (all used ) Seamus Kearns , kevin Knox , Niall McDonald .

Fixtures for tomorrow

2a home to Villa, kick off 11am.
After the disappointment of the poor defeat to Piltown, the lads will be looking to bounce back and grab 3 points. With only 12 games to play in the league things will be very tight among the 7 clubs.

4th division home to DLS, kick off 2pm
An early season top of the table clash in the 4b with early pace setters De la Salle coming to town. Dungarvan proved a stern test midweek for our older lads but with a big squad to call on they were able to call on the fresh legs when required.

Best of luck to both squads and again support for both is most welcome.
