U12C Boys League: Mooncoin Celtic 1 – 0 Kilmacow

Local Derby kicked off at midday Saturday was a rense affair from the start with very few chances for either side. Second half saw Mooncoin up the tempo and start to play football with Ethan dictating play in the midfield.

Indeed it was his composure which set up the winner as he ran through the midfield and played a lovely through ball into Noel’s feet. Noel’s first touch past the last defender set him clear on goal and with the keeper to beat he dinked the ball past the keeper from twelve yards.

Noel was through again soon after and was unlucky to hit the post having shot past the keeper. Kilmacow rallied and had their chances late on but Ultan, Tadhg, Viktor and TJ were all in imperious form in defence and gave away very little.

Player of the match must go to Eoin however who worked tirelessly from start to finish on both wings and led by example as captain for the day. 1-0 it finished and just reward for the boys who go from strength to strength.

U14B Girls League: Mooncoin Celtic 4 – 1 Piltown

Mooncoin welcomed Piltown Blue to Suir Crescent. A Strong defence kept a hard working Piltown team away from scoring anymore than 1 goal.

Midfield worked tirelessly in both defence & attack. Our strikers kept their defence busy and were very unlucky on more than one occasion not to add to our final tally of 4 goals.

Our girls played some brilliant passes and kept the ball flowing throughout the match. Briona got us on the score board after 20minutes followed shortly after by another goal from Anna Reddy.

The second half started off slow for us & Piltown slipped a goal past our posts. Changes at half time saw Alexi come on up front & it wasn’t long until she directed the ball straight in to the back of the net a move which she repeated less than 10 minutes later to bring us to a 4-1 win.

U11A Boys League: Mooncoin Celtic 2 – 3 Tramore

A very slow start from the boys cost them dearly against a slick passing Tramore side who raced into a two goal lead in the first 10 minutes.

Eventually they got going coming in to half time and Jack Twomey pulled a goal back with a bullet header. Plenty chances came their way in the second half with James O’Keeffe Bolger going close twice before Tramore snatched a third.

A Ryan Sutton header gave the lads late hope but unfortunately it wasn’t to be.

3A League: St Paul’s 2 – 3 Mooncoin Celtic

Title chasing St Paul’s hosted us today on the moon in perfect conditions. From the off, the boys pestered St Paul’s and gave very little space all over. On 25 minutes Ryan Carroll slotted home after a long throw by Chris O’Hanlon.

We were under a wee bit of pressure after this but weathered the storm and Ryan Carroll popped up again to nod home from a Chris O’Hanlon cross this time. Second half started and we quickly went 3 up with Derek Tebay nodding home after Jason Sauvage had a free kick fumbled.

We continued to attack and possibly could have been out of sight but for poor finishing and bad luck. To be fair St Paul’s had plenty chances but our young defence stood firm before two scrambles resulted in a nervy finish. Excellent performance by all on duty today but special mention to a red hot Ryan Carroll.

U12B League: Mooncoin Celtic 1 – 2 Ballinroad

An even contest once again with Ballinroad saw both teams cancel each other out in the first half. Second half was more open and Mooncoin were desperately unlucky when Sean rattled the crossbar from twenty yards.

Unfortunately Ballinroad went ahead a minute later and went two up soon after. Mooncoin pushed on and won a free on the right. Tom whipped the ball to the far post and Padraig stuck his header into the corner.

That was about as good as it got however in spite of a late rally. 2-1 to the visitors.

U12C League: Mooncoin Celtic 1 – 1 Portlaw united

Ultan was captain today on the merit of his recent performances at right back and he gave a captain’s performance once again.

The lads really showed their mettle with a hard working performance and got their reward when Killian won the ball back in the opposition box but was hacked down from behind. Noel stepped up to take the penalty and buried it to the keeper’s right.

Portlaw scored and equaliser with a deflected free kick late on but the lads battled on for the draw. 1-1 the final score.

Mens 3rd Division Cup:
Cappoquin Railway 0 – 1 Mooncoin Celtic

A tense cup tie was played out in sunny Cappoquin this evening and a battle was always going to be on the cards.

A very good first half was put in by ourselves with chances spurned by Jason Sauvage, Jamie Moore, Adam Cunningham and Ryan Carroll, while we also had numerous corners without any finishing touch.

Second period saw Cappoquin come in to it more but a quick break in midfield saw Jamie Moore slid Ryan Carroll in who made no mistake from the edge of the box. More chances came our way but that final touch was missing.

Our young defence in front of Jake Moore stood firm and a passage in to the next round secured. Good displays all round, especially from Ryan Carroll, Ryan Kelly and the evergreen Joey O’Hanlon.
