U12 Boys: Kilmacow 1 – 5 Mooncoin Celtic

Tyler led the boys out as captain for the first game of the new year and they were off to a flyer within the first few minutes with Dylan slotting home from close range after good pressing up top.

The boys worked extremely hard throughout the half and were rewarded with a second soon after with more pressure from Dylan causing confusion in the Kilmacow defence resulting in an own goal.

Another og was scored by Kilmacow early in the second half, just reward for good passing from Mooncoin in the build up. The assist of the game however goes to Ethan for our fourth.

As he received the ball on the edge of the box he took one touch with the left before laying it off deftly to Noel with his right who coolly slotted into the corner for his second of the season.

Kilmacow didn’t let the heads drop and won a penalty soon after which they buried into the goal. Mooncoin weren’t done either and TJ weighed up his options on the break and smashed the ball low and hard past the opposition keeper.

This was a well deserved first win for this team having been unlucky in previous games and there is certainly more to come in the next few weeks.

Mens 3rd Division:
Mooncoin Celtic 2 – 3 Cappoquin

Christmas came early for Cappoquin this morning. 87 minutes on the clock, Mooncoin Celtic leading 2-1, 94 minutes on the clock Cappoquin leading 3-2 and went home with 3 points.

Kevin Law continued his goalscoring form and put us ahead after 20 minutes from the penalty spot and we could have been 2 or 3 up after good work by Eric Walsh up top throughout the first half.

Cruising early in the second half we conceded a very soft goal (early Xmas present number 1)to allow Cappoquin back in the game.

A triple substitution yielded an immediate return with one of the subs, youth player Adam Conway sliding a pin point pass through to Kieran Fagan to slot home.

With the clock running down, an extremely soft penalty was awarded to Cappoquin (early Xmas present number 2) and they scored.

Poor defending on 90 minutes saw a cross come straight across the penalty area to be nodded home by the Cappoquin centre forward.

Good performance in patches, terrible result in the end.

U10 Girls play Park Rangers

In the U10 Girls non competitive league we entertained Park Rangers yesterday afternoon in Suir Crescent and the hard work in training was clear to see with the girls growing in confidence as the game wore on against a lively Park Rangers team. Happy team and coaches afterwards.

Boys U11A League: Mooncoin Celtic 2 – 0 Waterford Crystal

A very impressive performance from this group today with a very fast start tearing in to Crystal at pace.

A penalty after 5 minutes was brilliantly saved by the Crystal keeper and we did everything bar score in the first half with corner after corner.

Second half was a similar story with a quick start paying off with Will Doherty burying a lovely through ball. More pressure from midfield produced a similar scenario and Will Doherty slotted home for 3 points and a happy camp. Good performance by all throughout.

Girls U17 Munster Cup Last 16: Dromore United 2 – 0 Mooncoin Celtic

Last Saturday the u17 Girls set off early en route to Dromore in Limerick . Our girls took on last years u16s Munster plate finalists in a rip roaring game .

The first half was a very even affair with both team defending very well . There was nothing between them going in at the break. The second half was more of the same , but Dromore got the upper hand when they converted a free kick that Emily got a glove to but it wasn’t enough to keep the shot out .

Within ten mins , a great save by our keeper was cleared and ran on to by the Dromore striker who shot home to the top right hand corner. We saw a chance come when Molly Long hit the post with ten minutes to go . A very sporting game , and very accommodating hosts who we sat and shared soup ,sandwiches and plenty of stories with afterwards .

Another mighty bus trip that the girls thoroughly enjoyed .

A very special mention to JFL Plumbing who very kindly subsidised the bus trip for the girls .

SFAI Girls U14 TROPHY;
Kilkenny United 0 – 0 Mooncoin Celtic goes to penalties

The wet & windy weather made for really challenging conditions for playing football yesterday. Both teams were evenly matched and fought hard from start to finish with each team only getting a few chances at their opponents goal.

Huge kudos to both teams who after normal time went out & pushed with intensity to try break the deadlock.

Unfortunately, with the score nil all at the end of extra time, it was left to the penalty shootout to decide the result. Final result 4-2 Penalty scorers Mollie Murphy, Stephanie Phelan, Aine Connery & Ellie Thompson. Two saves from Aisling Rohan.

Thanks to Kilkenny United for a great game under tough conditions.

U15 SFAI Trophy: Freebooters 2 – 1 Mooncoin Celtic

Away trip today to the Watershed in Kilkenny to face Freebooters in the 1st round of the SFAI Trophy.

We asked the lads to embrace the tie and deliver a big performance and they certainly produced the best performance in a long time with everyone delivering a hard shift against a quality team with the final score Freebooters 2-1 Mooncoin Celtic, Oisin scoring a well earned peno won by Sean.

Before the game we had a minute silence in honour of Vicky Phelan (Kelly) which we would like to thank Freebooters for agreeing to and joining us in, we also wore black armbands in honour of the Kelly & Phelan Families.

U13b Boys: Mooncoin Celtic score a big win at home

A minutes applause as a mark of respect this afternoon for Vicky Phelan preempted the u13 home match vs Ballyduff.

Mooncoin started quickly and were 1 nil up with a fine finish from Canice. Shortly afterwards a misplaced pass allowed Ballyduff to get a quick shot away for a fine equaliser that gave Bradley no chance.

The game settled down until just before half time when Cathal and Charlie scored deserved goals.

Ballyduff came out strong In the second half and Bradley produced a fab save to deny a certain goal.

With ten minutes to go 3 goals from Robbie, Canice (for his 2nd) and Tommy (lucky block down from a defensive clearance) led to a final score of 6-1.

Great effort from every one of the squad today and rewarding to see some of the training work put into action in the match.

Best of luck for the rest of the season to Ballyduff.
