U12 Girls SFAI Cup:
Mooncoin Celtic 3 – 3 Gorey Rangers.

AET, Gorey Rangers won 2-1 on penalties.

An absolute belter of a cup tie between two evenly matched teams and the large crowd present were enthralled throughout the 80 minutes.
Gorey went ahead after 10 minutes with a long range effort which evaded Hannah Dobbyn on goal.

The girls were quick to bounce back and a pass from Courtenay O’Shea Power saw Molly Walsh steer home the equaliser. 1 all at half time but the girls flew out of the traps and took a deserved lead again through Molly Walsh after a long kick out from Hannah Dobbyn.

Gorey responded with 10 left on the clock to make it 2-2 before we broke away and Áine O’Sullivan scored to have us in the driving seat. With the clock just tipping 60 minutes Gorey Rangers broke clear to get a last gasp equaliser.

Extra time saw each side have a few chances but no more goals followed. On on to the dreaded penalty shoot out where 18 penalties were taken with some great saves by each keeper but Gorey came out on top 2-1 on penalties.

Heartbreaking stuff and plenty tears afterwards but a very good performance by everyone involved.

Big thanks to Ashling Dobbyn for overseeing refreshments before, during and after the game and also thank you to all parents for supplying baked goods.

Best of luck to Gorey Rangers in the next round and safe trip home.

U17 Girls: Mooncoin 4 – 1 Villa FC

Proudly Sponsored by TD Tiling

Mooncoin welcomed Villa to Breezy Suir Crescent this morning for an 11am Kick Off .

Today was a game of two halves , with both teams going toe to toe for the first half , with very little to seperate them .

After some discussion at half time , and a few words amongst themselves, the girls took to the pitch with determination .

The break came for us 10 mins in when Emily Blackmore took a shot on goal , the villa keeper got to it, but the ball still found its way over the goal line .

Villa had a speedy response and within a couple of minutes had equalised .

This pushed the girls on again , and on the 15 minute mark , Emily Blackmore found herself again in a scoring position , and finished to the net making it two one .

The introduction of Ella Brennan a little earlier really changed the dynamic of the game , as her speed on the wing was proving pivotal for the Home side . Ella was rewarded by finding the net herself on the half way mark .

Our defence was tested on a number of occasions , with Ciara o keeffe making two clearances off the goal line after Alanah Tobin diverted a ball from front of goal . Ellie Corcoran was solid in the middle of the field and a lot of ball was moved through Ellie during todays game .

Luiseach O Donohue was her usual dependable self today and played her part in setting up of the Fourth goal . Passing a ball up the line to Sommer Grant who made no mistake and blasted for back of the net , the villa keeper did well again to deter the effort , but the ball still ended up in the back of the net .

Sommer had seen a long range shot come off the woodwork minutes before .

A well earned win today and three points on the Board .

Weekend Review

Last weekend was a very busy one for all our teams involved over two mixed days weather wise, Saturday glorious, Sunday dreadful.

U11A Boys
Southend 1 Mooncoin Celtic 0
This side, though depleted, showed signs of true potential and pushed Southend all the way.

U11B Boys
Mooncoin Celtic 2
Ferrybank 2
Two up at half time thanks to Ted McLoughlin and Pete Dunphy against a decent Ferrybank team. Unfortunately the second half saw the boys pegged back but can count themselves very unlucky not to have won.

U11C
Mooncoin Celtic 4
Villa 1
A tight but frantic first half saw few chances for Mooncoin with Tom Mackey the busier goalie making two saves. It ended with captain for the day Ben Mackey striking into the top corner after Villa had cleared a corner.
The second half saw a flurry of goals with Bobby Kinsella, Eoin Barden, Donncha Mackey and Tom Mackey all scoring within ten minutes of the interval. Villa got back into it with a goal soon after. They were denied a second by a save from TJ Curran at full stretch as the ball bounced back off the post. 5-1 to the home team and top of the table with three wins from three.

U15 Boys
Bohs 3 Mooncoin Celtic 0
Poor conditions on Sunday for this group and tough Away trip in Poleberry today with a depleted side against a very good drilled Bohs side ended in a 3-0 defeat, all the goals coming in the first half. The score line flatters us really with Bohs having all the possession and chances. Positives from it was the performance from Oisin at the back and the the girls Ella Brennan & Aoibhe Rees who played their hearts out.

U16 Girls
Bohemians 1 Mooncoin Celtic 0
A very tight game with little between the sides in what is sure to be a very tight league. One goal was always going to win it and unfortunately Bohs sneaked it.

U12 White Girls
Mooncoin Celtic 1
Carrick United 3
Horrendous conditions for this young group but it did not stop these determined girls who put in a performance which deserved more. Emily
Fewer got the goal on the day.

U12 Green Girls
Mooncoin Celtic 2
Ballyduff 3
A rip roaring game played in shocking conditions again but a big crowd cheered on both teams, Ballyduff just about shaded things but signs of improvement are evident. Lexi Walsh got both goals with one screamer from distance.

Youths
Kilmacow 8
Mooncoin Celtic 3
A flattering scoreline with 4 goals from set pieces putting Kilmacow in the driving seat. An Alex Bailey hat trick was the bright note but a disappointing result for the lads.

3rd Division
Mooncoin Celtic 1
St Paul’s 4
A fast start from a lively St Paul’s team saw them 4 up on the half hour mark with two screamers giving Bradley McNabb no chance, a blatant push at a corner for another and a defensive mix up costing us. A much improved second half with a mountain of chances saw a penalty penalty miss, a couple of very good saves by the Paul’s keeper before Jamie Moore pulled one back.
Poor display overall.

U12 Girls Result: Mooncoin Celtic 0 – 5 Piltown

A very good Piltown side who displayed incredible skills and technical ability came to Suir Crescent this afternoon to take on a new look side who are slowly finding their feet in what is sure to be a very competitive league.

Three first half goals had Piltown ahead at half time but the second half was a different story as the girls grew in to the game and could have notched one or two themselves. Piltown scored two good goals in the second half to grab the three points.

Development of this squad is ongoing but good displays from all today gives the coaches confidence going in to next week.

Girls U12B League: Portlaw 6 – 1 Mooncoin Celtic White

The result against Portlaw does not reflect how competitive the game was throughout. Maria Dunphy scored an excellent goal and we were unlucky not to score more, with a shot of the crossbar and a few straight into their goalkeeper’s hands.

Molly played a captain’s role throughout and Gwyn Dermody was the Player of the Match.

Our young team was ably assisted by a lot of u10s who were brilliant and will be a force to be reckoned with when their league starts in a couple of weeks.

A huge thanks to Watmor Construction for sponsoring our U12 jerseys.

Big big thanks must go to Watmór Construction and Civil Ltd for sponsorship of jerseys for our U12 White Girls Squad. Pictured with the squad in Portlaw this morning was Andrew Walsh of Watmór Construction and don’t the girls look well in them. Also picture is U12 coach Padraig Kirwan with Declan and Eric Walsh of Watmór Construction and Civil Ltd.

U16 Girls: Park Rangers 1 – 2 Mooncoin Celtic

Sponsored by Mooncoin Pharmacy

With Todays visit to Park Rangers this Mooncoin u16 team got themselves off the mark and registered 3 points .

We got ourselves on the scoring sheet after 10 minutes when Ella Brennan scored her first goal of this season. From some clever passing .

Park Rangers pulled it back on the twenty minute mark ….

We saw chances come our way but we didn’t capitalise on them.

Some good work by Aoibhe Rees paid dividends after she made a run down the wing , getting a shot away to Front of goal where Emily Blackmore finished it to the net.

Eimear Quinn and Saoirse Corcoran played very well today in defence , along with Kate McGrath and Niamh Reddy both of whom were really on top form today .

U11A League Result: Dungarvan United 4 – 0 Mooncoin Celtic

A very solid opening 20 minutes saw very little between the teams but a couple of lapses in concentration saw 2 quick fire goals which was a little harsh on the boys. In the second half we chased the deficit but couldn’t create any clear cut chances. Two goals in the final 10 minutes put a flattering look on the scoreline. Tough harsh lesson against a very good Dungarvan United team.

U12A Girls: Dungarvan United 6 – 1 Mooncoin Celtic

A tough opening game for the girls in Kilrush Park, home of the Senior Ladies League Champions, in a game against an impressive home side who done the basics well.

A solid start to the game saw Dungarvan take the lead but Siobhán O’Donnell equalised very quickly. Dungarvan then went in to cruise control and put away 5 goals without reply. A tough day but better will follow we are sure.

U13B League: Villa 1 – 0 Mooncoin Celtic

Sunny morning away to Villa was the destination for the u13s first match of the season. Opening 15 minutes was cagey with both sides sussing each other out. 5 minutes later Villa opened the scoring with a cross ball diagonal that the left winger timed his run to hit the ball past Bradley from close range.

In the second half we made a few changes and were stronger going close a couple of times but it wasn’t to be.

A close match ended with lots of Mooncoin pressure but no show for it. Bradley pulled off a couple of excellent saves to keep us fighting till the final whistle.
