U13b Mooncoin Celtic 2 – 1 Park Rangers

With the sun shining brightly from early morning, today was always going to be a good day for football and so it proved to be as an unbeaten Park Rangers team came to Suir Crescent.

The early exchanges saw some good passing from Park Rangers and some fine defending from Mooncoin, although it was Mooncoin that got the first on target shots of the match.

This first half was a tight affair, with Will Walsh having to take command of his goal area a number of times. In injury time of the 1st half the deadlock was broken as the Park Rangers left-back hit a fine free kick in to the goal.

One nil down at half time and with the season on the line the next 30 minutes were crucial, and the Mooncoin boys were rightly up for it, apply pressure from the first seconds of the 2nd half.

The Park Rangers keeper made some good saves but Conor Walsh, Sean O’Donoghue, Finn Foskin and Will Mcloughlin all pushing hard and created some fine chances, and sure enough got back in to the game with a goal scored by Conor right on the line.

The Mooncoin tails were up and the boys kept applying pressure, and derseved to go ahead from another goal by Conor W.

Now it was time to dig in and Mooncoin were ready for it, with Ben, Eoghan, Naoise, Sam and Canice fighting for every ball. Naoise H. was just awesome in defence with a Franco Baresi display and if anything did come through Eoghan was in goal to mop it up.

In midfield Daniel, Charlie and Luke worked their socks off and gave it everything and Sam Murphy came on to ensure the tight defense remained unbreakable.

The whistle went, Mooncoin won 2-1 and go top of the u13b league and the shouts of joy could be heard all over the village.

U14b Boys: Mooncoin Celtic 2 – 5 Park Rangers

A windy Saturday for the visit of league leaders unbeaten Park Rangers, and after an under par 1st half, where we gave away two really soft goals.

We had a chat in our new dressing room and came out and really took it to Park Rangers. Josh scored a cracker from outside the box in the first 10mins to get us back in the game , then a short time later Anil bended a beauty in to top corner.

Park Rangers were rattled, we had two good chances and a big call for a penalty not given from a clear hand ball.

Park Rangers got two late goals on the break showing the good side they are.

Overall we were delighted with 2nd half performance and hope we learn from the soft goals.

MoM in this one was Anil for the amount of ground covered and hard work. Special mention for Connor Walsh on his first start and was unlucky not to score.

U12b Piltown 1 – 0 Mooncoin

A sunny start in Piltown for the u12s though a strong wind made it very difficult for both teams to play good football.

A cagey scoreless first half with limited chances for both teams. The second half opened up and Piltown took the lead from a break through the middle halfway through the second half.

The lads picked themselves up and despite the pressure the Piltown defence stayed resolute and the match finished 1-0.

U14 Girls: Mooncoin Celtic 3 – 1 Bohemians

Mooncoin pushed Bohs hard from the very start and were very unlucky with quite a few clear cut chances early in the first half. Bohs scored first though with an excellent strike, albeit against the run of play.

Mooncoin continued to push hard and drew things level with a goal from Ella Brennan.

The second half was a continuation of the first with Mooncoin continuing to pressure Bohs throughout the pitch. When Bohs did attack, the Mooncoin defense held firm, with Mollie Murphy in particularly fine form.

Emily Cooney was unlucky not to score with an outstanding strike from distance and it was beginning to look like it was not going to be their day. However, Aoibhe Rees, normally the goalscorer, turned provider with fantastic assists to Emily Cooney and Ella Brennan to put the result beyond doubt.

It was very much a team performance by Mooncoin against a very resourceful Bohs team.

U14b Boys: Villa FC 4 – 0 Mooncoin Celtic

We were the better side for the first 15 mins of this game but im afraid we were out on our feet after that short period of time.

We had a couple of chances to score Emily, Emmett and Sean going close but other than those chances and the first 15 mins we were 2nd best and villa deserved to win their 6th game on the trot.

Man of the match today was Finbarr Purcell who was absolutely brilliant all game with Emmett cusack a close 2nd putting in great shift in the second half.

U12b Boys: Mooncoin Celtic 1 – 1 Stradbally

12 weeks after our last competitive match we faced a tough Stradbally team in sunny Suir Crescent. Naturally the lads were a little rusty but went in at half time nil nil.

Change of formation with Bradley helping Ethan in the second half resulted in a goal after ten mins.

A good one two from a throw to Cathal led to a great cross from Sam and Ethan finished with a deadly volley in the six yard box. Stradbally came back strong and a number of excellent saves from Will kept us ahead.

Stradbally finally got their equaliser from a low shot in the box. Last 15 minutes were end to end and the draw was a fair result.

Well done lads, great to be back playing football again.

U15c Boys: Mooncoin Celtic register a win out in Faithlegg.

We visited a windy Park Rangers for gameweek 7.

The first quarter was an even affair with both teams finding their feet. We hit the front with a clever finish by Robbie which was the first of a first half hat trick.

Further goals from Canice and a fantastic solo effort from Marti had us 5.0 up at the break. We faced the wind in the second half but the lads kept going and were soon rewarded with a strike from Dani.

Billy soon added a fantastic long range effort which is becoming a regular occurance. Further strikes from Anil and Aidan saw us out comfortable winners with the defence also adding to their clean sheet tally.

Another great squad performance from this bunch which has them all improving week on week.

Goals Robbie x 3. Marti,Dani , Canice, Billy, Anil & Aidan.

Hard to pick anyone out today but special mentions for Robbie, Canice and entire defence.

MoM Marti.

U11b Boys: Kilmacthomas 4 – 0 Mooncoin Celtic

A wet and windy morning saw our u11s travel to Kilmacthomas. Our back line of Padraig, Tadhg and Sean dealt admirably with a relentless Kilmac team early on however we eventually went a goal down after 20 minutes.

Fionn on goal made a couple of terrific saves to keep the scoreline down including one full stretch dive which looked to be heading for the far corner.

The midfield worked tirelessly throughout the half to protect their defence but couldn’t quite make the breakthrough at the other end. The second half saw a flurry of goals by Kilmac early on after a slow start but our boys recovered and were unlucky not to get something from the game against the only unbeaten team in the division.

Improving with every game however and on to DLS at home in a fortnight.
