U12B Result: Piltown 4 Mooncoin 3

A local derby, and a mighty tussle as Piltown came out the right side of a 7 goal thriller.

It was perfect conditions for a match in Kildalton Park and Piltown got off to a flyer with an early goal via a penalty.

Mooncoin got a foothold in midfield and with a through ball Shane Purcell was on hand to slot in from a tight angle.

From a Mooncoin corner, Conor Walsh slotted home from close range and not 2 minutes later Conor Walsh was on hand again to grab a second and the teams third.

Piltown now piled on the pressure, there were some fine saves from Eoin Tobin in goal. Then just before half time Piltown made it 3-2.

The 2nd half was much tighter with some fine passing from both sides. Then close to the end from a corner Piltown scored and a few minutes later they scored from an unstoppable long range shot.

There was a final chance for Mooncoin in the last minute but there was a fine save and the match finished 4-3 to Piltown.

The lads have improved mightly from the first match and it can only be upwards from here.

WSFL Under 16C League: St.Paul’s 0 vs Mooncoin Celtic 9

After a great opening day the team went to the Moon for a much tougher challenge in St. Paul’s. Again a score line that doesn’t do justice to the effort of St. Paul’s. However we are on fire as they say and another great performance from everyone. Starting in the Goal by Jonah O’Toole who has really worked hard on his performance and it shows. Clean sheet is deserved of his performance. Liam Hogan came back today after 12 months out and it looked like he never left. Sided by Conor Dermody who’s timing was impeccable throughout. Denis Kinsella at left back gave great supply up the left hand side.. Ciara O’Keeffe was outstanding at right back… Lee Freyne is loving the number 10 role and produced a brilliant hatrick today that won a little wager with mam!!! (Silly move on mams part) left winger Sean Lennon has an unbelievable engine and resilience and he scored two of the goals today. Dylan Conway in midfield was superb again and headed every single ball back up the pitch no matter how far out of the sky they came. Sam Hartwells burst of pace is nearly unplayable and he notched one. A training ground special was buried to the net by Adam Conway with an excellent header after a great delivery from Lee. Adam was a menace down the right hand side and got two today. Man of the Match today after a brilliant display by Stephen Foran who was involved in every goal he made so many passes that cut through St. Paul’s and capped off his day with a stunning overhead kick into the corner of the net. We made three subs and each were involved in goals and upped the game when they came on and that was Cian O’Sullibheann, Matthew Morahan and Daniel Roberts. Serious team performance well done everyone.

Youths Result: Lismore 2 Mooncoin Celtic 5

A long Sunday morning trip, which nearly never happened after a mishap with our bus on departure, eventually saw the lads secure 3 points in a very sticky encounter with little given between two very competitive teams. A quick start saw the boys 2 up after 10 minutes and 3 up with 20 gone, and 4-1 at half time gave Lismore some hope going into the 2nd half. Goals in the first half were scored by Aaron McLoughlin, Adam Croke, Ryan O’Grady and Rudi. In the 2nd half the lads displayed real composure and were never under any real pressure. Padraic Murphy drilled one from 35 yards to make it 5-1 with 20 minutes left. Lismore did score a late penalty rebound after Nathan saved well but lismore followed up faster. A good day had by all in West Waterford. Man of the Match today was Adam Croke who eventually got his goal.

4th Division Result: Mooncoin Celtic 2 Ballyduff 1

First three points of the season secured this morning in sunny ashgrove against Ballyduff. A dominant first half saw no goals after numerous chances. The inspired introduction of Thomas bubbles O’Brien saw the deadlock broken as havoc rained down on the Ballyduff defence and after a number of corners by Stephen Blackmore, Jonny Power scrambled the ball home. A couple of minutes later Mickey Dowley released Andrew Norris to slot home number 2 and put the game to bed but NO.
Former Mooncoin Celtic Golden Boot winner Mick ‘Golden Boots’ Foran drilled home for Ballyduff from 23 yards leaving stand in keeper Kevin Kennedy scrambling across the goal but unfortunately Mick has the bragging rights on this one. We saw out the game without too much fuss afterwards. Good displays by all today with Andrew Mccarthy and Johnny Power standing out. No goal today for Neville ‘goal a game’ Synnott.

U11 Boys play Park Rangers

We entertained Park Rangers in the first non competitive fixture at this level this morning in sunny Ashgrove. All players from both clubs put in a huge effort with tired legs aplenty at the end. Good start for Mike Molloy and John O’Connor’s young group.

U13 Result: Kilmacthomas 1 Mooncoin Celtic 3

A great start today by our team in windy, cold conditions in Kilmac, after a solid start we took the lead through our Captain fantastic Emily Blackmore when she smartly lobbed the Kilmac goalkeeper, we then settled and with great teamwork passing we earned a penalty when Josh was fouled, he then calmly tucked the spot kick away. After the break Kilmac came at us and had us under pressure. Our third was a thing of football beauty when we caught Kilmac on the break and with an unreal two touch passing move up the field, fell to who other than the deadly Josh McLoughlin, there was only one outcome. Kilmac in fairness never let up and got a deserved goal. Great start and a credit to all the team. Man of the Match in this one was Daniel Ponce De Leon.
