Our first game in 8 weeks at at time we showed a bit of ring rustiness. That being said we domainted this game from start to finish but found it hard to breakdown a stubborn DLS who defended on mass for the full hour. We needed a spark to score and our 3 subs of Liam Mackey, Jake Doherty and in particular luke Harrington gave us that spark. The breakthrough came when josh McLoughlin latched onto a thru ball and finished bravely into the bottom corner despite the attention of 2 defenders and the on rushing keeper, a good game to blow off the cobwebs the whole squad performed well but our man of the match goes to Darragh alyward who was brilliant from start to finish.

4th Division Result Dungarvan Utd 6 Mooncoin Celtic 1
The rain fell continuously for the duration of the game and unfortunately the goals rained down aswell in favour of league leaders Dungarvan who deservedly won 6-1. Player manager Trevor Dunphy notched the goal on a night best forgotten.
3rd division Result Dungarvan Celtic 2 Mooncoin Celtic 0
Two shots on target from Dungarvan Celtic, one from a free kick and the other from a penalty resulting in the two goals conceded was the cruel reward for a galant effort from the lads. The Dungarvan Celtic goalkeeper was man of the match which says it all.
U11 Blue Group vs Dungarvan
Somewhat of a depleated squad for the U11 Blue group this morning, but those that did take part put in a great shift and were well able to score some fine goals.
U11 Green Group away to Bohs
There were two changes in the venue and an earlier start (10am) and some tired heads with all of the lads staying up late for the Late Late Toy Show but none of this distrubed the great progress the u11 green squad are making.
The WIT Arena out in Carriganore was a fine setting for 2 cracking matches between Bohs and Mooncoin, there were loads of goals, clear passing some great saves and huge smiles at the end of this match.
WSFL Under 15C League Mooncoin Celtic 6 vs Park Rangers 0
Six goals today however we should have probably scored six more. That’s not to take away from a great win and three points with a clean sheet. We pressed from early on playing two strikers in Stephen Foran and Sam Hartwell. Stephen played particularly well.. Sam was creative throughout bagging the second and the third goals today. A fantastic performance by Alex Bailey was topped off with a brilliant opening goal in midfield.. an In form Adam Conway keeps getting better and netted the second and last goal of the game. But same as last day both he and Alex and enjoying playing together. Tom Conway started on the left wing and hit the post once but after a quite start improved much better at Centre back. Mikey Cronin played a blinder today after stepping into midfield. Conor Dermody’s transition to Centre back has proven to be his making and he was solid all day, Ciara O’Keeffe and Denis Kinsella as full backs were excellent as usual. Jonah O’Toole kept a clean sheet and made some lovely saves Matthew Morahan got on in the second half and again was unlucky not to score. But the most celebrated goal in the history of this team is coming. A big performance like this will normally have an orchestrator and that came today from Man of the Match Diego Blanco Ibanez. He tracked every ball back and won every ball and create chances all day long with amazing footwork alone the way. Diego scored direct from a corner helped in by Mikey Cronin. But he tried on a few occasions to do so and mastered it. Excellent to watch. 3 more pts on the board. Well done everyone
U11 Green Squad Mooncoin vs Ballyduff
A fine set of matches were played in Ashgrove on Saturday morning as 2 very evenly set squads went head to head on a beautiful morning for football.
In one match there was goals galore with 10 goals scored between the 2 teams and loads of skills on display.
In other match it was a 2 – 2 draw but the stand out was the passing skill and dribbles shown by both teams, it was a pleasure to observe.
Even with the cold nights this U11 Mooncoin squad have 20 players attending training regularly and its standing to them now in match scenarios. There’s a bright future ahead for the club with these lads in the pipeline.
U12 Girls: Mooncoin 0 Tramore 5
The u12 girls team were disappointed at the end of this game as they were very unfortunate not to get something out of it. Indeed Mooncoin dominated the first half. Aoibhe and Ella Dobbyn came close early on with Molly Murphy hitting the post on 20 minutes.
Tramore scored two goals in quick succession toward the end of the half, which was very unfair on our defensive trio of Sophie, Sadhbh and Saoirse Corcoran. Hannah Dobbyn had a particularly good game in goal and her kickouts have improved massively since the start of the season.
A number of changes were made at half-time. Ellie Thompson had a shot from the half-way line after three minutes which went narrowly wide but unfortunately Tramore scored again after 10 minutes. Mooncoin continued to push hard and nearly got their just rewards a few minutes later when Tramore were lucky to keep a clean sheet after a goalmouth scramble.
We emptied our bench midway through the second half and everyone who came on contributed to an excellent performance. Tramore scored two more goals which meant that the result did not reflect the game overall.
A number of girls were outstanding, especially Ella Brennan and Aoibhe, but player of the match goes to Molly Murphy for a tireless performance where she battled for every ball and was so unfortunate not to get on the scoresheet again.
Tramore are a good team who have been playing together for many years. We are still trying to find many players’ best position. A lot of lessons were learned on the sideline and we hope to work on these in training over the coming weeks.
A big thank you to Walter and Sheila for helping out today.
4th Division Result Mooncoin 1 – 1 De La Salle
The lads created numerous chances to win this match, but im afraid it wasn’t to be as del a salle took the lead with their only shot in the half hitting one from 40 yards of the underside of crossbar, giving darragh no chance ,we went in one down ,should have been 4 up ,same story in the second half before beano made it 1 all with a good finish we also hit the post twice, spew was unlucky with a free kick that hit the crossbar in the last minute ,if we keep playing like this we have a great chance of honours, man of the match Jonathan power gave a towering performance in midfield closely followed by beano who never gave up and got his reward, onwards and upwards boys
WSFL under 15c League Tramore 2 vs Mooncoin Celtic 3
Great game today in a cold Tramore. We started the much stronger and pressed Tramore at every opportunity. Some really impressive performances all over the pitch. Adam Conway & Alex Bailey on the right and Sean Lennon & Diego Blanco Ibanez on the left caused serious trouble for the Tramore defence. Firstly a thru ball from Diego setting up Sean for a cracking opener. Hard work and never give attitude from Adam and Alex eventually seen Adam nip it over the line. Sam Hartwell causing all kinds of problems pressing every ball. Dylan Conway was part of everything in defensive midfield. The line was held well with the solid pairing of Tom Conway & Conor Dermody and Denis Kinsella on the left and Ciara O’Keeffe on the right kept Tramore completely out in the first half. Jonah O’Toole had a great game in goal. Mikey Cronin added strength in the second half. Matthew Morahan got on and was unlucky on two occasions but gave a beautiful pass to an impressive Stephen Foran who was unlucky not to score. Sam got the third goal that carried us over the line before a late effort from Tramore scoring two goals near the end. Their goalkeeper was very busy and kept the scoreline way down. Well done everyone!
