17 over 35’s in Ashgrove this evening to welcome park rangers for the second game in the plate competition. Same back four as the last day (Don, Chopper, Thompson and McGrath) performed well especially in the second half. New look midfield Gerry Walsh using his experience to the max and Darragh Beagan with micky Comerford enjoying life on the right wing and froggie back from suspension on the left. Neville and goal machine Scoby started up top. The goal came from a set piece we have been working on in training – cross to the back post and Scoby with a great header to continue his hot scoring streak. We created a few more chances but the finishing left a lot to be desired. Plenty got game time with the introduction of Mick Dwyer, Lee Kelly, Mick ‘golden boots’ Foran and Liam Walsh. We held out in the second half to clinch the three points which sets us up nicely for next three games. Too many good performances to pick a man of the match but if you had to, John McGrath by a nose would clinch it. Great stuff from the veterans

Youth B plate result: Mooncoin Celtic 0 Tramore 2
Sticky conditions did not lend kindly to playing football today in what was a scrappy affair in the blowing wind. Scoreless at half time, the boys went out in confident mood but their final ball was letting them down in the second half. With the clock hitting the 90 minute mark and the boys pushing for that winner, Tramore broke clear to get ahead. Deep in injury time again with the lads pushing for a goal, Tramore broke again to kill off the game. A decent performance after a difficult week which the Rock would have been well proud of.
4th Division result, Mooncoin Celtic 2 Kilmacow 1
Good win in the local derby v Kilmacow this morning for the veterans. We scored early when Scoby got the ball out his feet from a sweet Jonny Power pass and used the breeze to curl a shot past the keeper to the far top corner. 1 nil. We kept the ball for most of the first half with Don Whelan and Mickey Comerford combining well to create chances to go forward. Kilmacow did manage to equalize through a long ball into the area that caught out Barry Hearne and Chopper. Could have been their second in fairness if not for a fantastic double save by Barry a few minutes earlier. Conditions didn’t help our final ball in the second half and we were nearly settling for a point each til JJ made an inspired call to get Spud off the bench as a third striker. It made sure they had to mark tight which created gaps for late runs from midfield. Exactly what happened with time just up when Gerry Walsh was hacked down in the penalty area to ensure a spot kick after an exquisite through ball from Mickey comerford. Scoby nearly tore the net out of it to give us the start we needed in the plate. Good team performance but it will be more about the squad from here on with games coming thick and fast. Man of the match was the oldest player in the club Gerry Walsh, getting better with age.
2B RESULT Piltown 0 Mooncoin 5
Before the games both teams observed a minute silence for our good friend Rocky . And the lads made him proud with a great performance putting last weeks defeat well behind them .
It was a cagey game for the first 15mins in strong winds and heavy rain for most of the game but the opening goal came on 20minutes with good play down the right wing , Ethan crossed in and Johnny kav made no mistake heading us 1-0 in front . We started to really get on top from this point an missed a few good opportunity’s but on 35minutes we went 2-0 up , again good play on the right side Kevin Dowley squared the ball across the box and Kavanagh who slotted into the bottom left corner . 2-0 at halftime .
The second half started as the first had finished with a very high tempo and it didn’t take long for the next goal to come , on 50mins wayne kelly who was a thorn in piltowns side all game played a super ball in from the left wing found Ian synnott who headed home for 3-0. 5minutes later it was 4-0 , Ian synnott was fouled outside the Piltown box and Wayne kelly buried the resulting free kick . With the game won we were always in control but the tempo dropped a little an we made 5 changes . Kevin Dowley , johnny Kavanagh , Ian synnott , Ivan Tobin and Robbie walsh made way for Liam walsh , Jamie Moore , eoghan walsh , joey hanlon and Kieran o Brien . We missed another couple of chances in between and with only a couple of minutes left we gave away a silly penalty , ross o keeffe who was solid as a rock on goal all game saved the penalty . From the goal kick the Piltown keeper came out an passed to Wayne kelly who chipped him nicely to seal a 5-0 victory . A brilliant win in bad conditions leaves this team 2 games and 2 wins away from a league trophey .
Team – Ross o keeffe , Ivan Tobin , chris o Hanlon , pj McGrath , Jason Sauvage , robbie walsh , Ethan Ryan , Wayne kelly , Kevin Dowley , Ian synnott , johnny Kavanagh . Subs used – liam walsh , Jamie Moore , eoghan walsh , joey Hanlon , Kieran o Brien .
Next fixture Wednesday 6.30 away to Waterford crystal . Good luck men
Emily Blackmore in Cork
A little bit of good news today coming from Cork where Emily Blackmore done herself, her family, her club and Rocky proud by performing excellently in the blitz. Waterford had two groups out . Below is Emily’s sides results where unfortunately they got beaten in 2 games but won the other with the pocket rocket netting the winner.
Waterford v Limerick 0-2
Waterford V Cork 0-1
Waterford V Wexford 1-0 Goalscorer: Emily Blackmore
Nice one Emily, Rocky would have been well proud.
U14 result: Mooncoin Celtic 2 St Paul’s 3
An entertaining game with 5 goals in it but unfortunately the boys came out the wrong end of it. An og and an Aaron McLaughlin goal were not enough as the lads played only their second game in 4 months.
Both sides observing the minutes silence for Rocky before kick off today. A big thanks to St Paul’s for their kind words before the game.
Fixtures for the weekend
Today, u14 home to St Paul’s, kick off 12.30
Tomorrow: 2b away to Piltown, kick off 11am

The best of luck to all teams after a tough week for everyone. Support as always is most welcome both home and away.
