Girls Waterford Development matches Sunday

Sunday was Gaynor Cup day for our girls and we had a big involvement across the 3 squads.

U12 saw Hannah Dobbyn involved, U14 saw Áine Connery, Molly Murphy and Stephanie Phelan with coaches Dee Travers and Richard Long and at U16 Emily Blackmore, Aoibhe Rees and Ella Brennan flew the flag.

Mixed bag of results but plenty experience gained by all 7 players and our coaching duo.

Mens 3rd Division:
Mooncoin Celtic 2 – 3 Cappoquin

Christmas came early for Cappoquin this morning. 87 minutes on the clock, Mooncoin Celtic leading 2-1, 94 minutes on the clock Cappoquin leading 3-2 and went home with 3 points.

Kevin Law continued his goalscoring form and put us ahead after 20 minutes from the penalty spot and we could have been 2 or 3 up after good work by Eric Walsh up top throughout the first half.

Cruising early in the second half we conceded a very soft goal (early Xmas present number 1)to allow Cappoquin back in the game.

A triple substitution yielded an immediate return with one of the subs, youth player Adam Conway sliding a pin point pass through to Kieran Fagan to slot home.

With the clock running down, an extremely soft penalty was awarded to Cappoquin (early Xmas present number 2) and they scored.

Poor defending on 90 minutes saw a cross come straight across the penalty area to be nodded home by the Cappoquin centre forward.

Good performance in patches, terrible result in the end.

U10 Girls play Park Rangers

In the U10 Girls non competitive league we entertained Park Rangers yesterday afternoon in Suir Crescent and the hard work in training was clear to see with the girls growing in confidence as the game wore on against a lively Park Rangers team. Happy team and coaches afterwards.

Boys U11A League: Mooncoin Celtic 2 – 0 Waterford Crystal

A very impressive performance from this group today with a very fast start tearing in to Crystal at pace.

A penalty after 5 minutes was brilliantly saved by the Crystal keeper and we did everything bar score in the first half with corner after corner.

Second half was a similar story with a quick start paying off with Will Doherty burying a lovely through ball. More pressure from midfield produced a similar scenario and Will Doherty slotted home for 3 points and a happy camp. Good performance by all throughout.

Girls U17 Munster Cup Last 16: Dromore United 2 – 0 Mooncoin Celtic

Last Saturday the u17 Girls set off early en route to Dromore in Limerick . Our girls took on last years u16s Munster plate finalists in a rip roaring game .

The first half was a very even affair with both team defending very well . There was nothing between them going in at the break. The second half was more of the same , but Dromore got the upper hand when they converted a free kick that Emily got a glove to but it wasn’t enough to keep the shot out .

Within ten mins , a great save by our keeper was cleared and ran on to by the Dromore striker who shot home to the top right hand corner. We saw a chance come when Molly Long hit the post with ten minutes to go . A very sporting game , and very accommodating hosts who we sat and shared soup ,sandwiches and plenty of stories with afterwards .

Another mighty bus trip that the girls thoroughly enjoyed .

A very special mention to JFL Plumbing who very kindly subsidised the bus trip for the girls .
