U16 Girls: Mooncoin Celtic 2 – 3 Carrick Utd
A very close encounter today in Suir Crescent as our u16 girls took on Carrick .
We got off to a flyer with a run through from Aoibhe Rees who recieved a beauty of a pass from Sommer Grant, and slotted the ball to the net. However a quick paced Carrick United evened the game up again before long .
Carrick piled the pressure on from the middle of the pitch, and our back four , Kate McGrath , Sophie Schaill , Eimear Quinn and Caoimhe Hartwell did very well to keep things at bay .
We got our noses ahead again when Niamh Reddy found Emily Blackmore with a pass, who finished to the net. There was plenty of comings and going’s for about ten mins before Carrick equalised for the second time.
Half time came and went with the game locked at 2-2 .
Mia Ponce De Leon did a stellar job between the sticks , and did what was required every time danger lurked . Molly Long and Luiseach O Donohue covered a lot of ground working on the wings.
The introduction of Katie Phelan , Ellie Corcoran and Orna Hennebery added some well needed freshness to the squad .
But Carrick were the team to come out on top today. Scoring their third goal with 20 mins to go .
Our girls really rallied for the final quarter and had a chance or two to equalise, alas today was not to be our day .
U13b: Kilmacow 4 – 4 Mooncoin Celtic
What a match to start off the u13b league, a local derby against Kilmacow and while Mooncoin started off well they found themselves 0-3 down after 20 minutes.
Then Finn scored a cracking free kick making it 1-3 at half time and the team rallied during the half time break and came out into the 2nd half full of gusto as the two goal deficit was pulled back to 3-3 with goals from Charlie and Sean.
A quick break out made it 3-4 to Kilmacow but the Mooncoin boys pulled it back again with a cross come shot from Luke to make it 4-4 , honours even and a shared point from a great match.
U15c: Mooncoin Celtic vs Piltown
The U15s started their season with a home game to local rivals Piltown. In a game quite well controlled from the first whistle, Mooncoin ran out comfortable winners against a battling young Piltown side. Goals from Marti, Canice, Jamie and not forgetting Robbie who bagged 4, capped off a great team performance.
Next up are Park Rangers at home.
Season start for uneven age groups.
In the Schoolboys league there are season starts for u11s, u13s and u15s.
There are 2 teams at u11 and both play Park Rangers.
U11b away to Park Rangers @ 10.30am
U11d home to Park Rangers @ 10.30am
There are 2 teams at the u13 age group but only one of them play this weekend.
U13b away to Kilmacow @ 12.30pm
The U15s get their season underway at home to Carrick Utd @ 2.30pm
There’s great excitement amongst all players and especially at the u11 age group as it will be the first time they participate in a full match.
Here’s young Robbie Tebays rookie card for the new season.
MCFC Girls in action for Waterford
With all the great results of the weekend, there’s still news to tell as 2 Mooncoin girls played their part in a fine Gaynor Cup win for Waterford over Carlow on Saturday.
And a win for a MCFC coaches involved with the u13 squad too
U17s Girls: Villa 1 Mooncoin Celtic 2
U17s Began their league campaign today with an away game to Villa Fc
The game started at a frantic pace with both teams wanting to get on top …. Most of the play in the first half was in the Middle of the field with some great passages of play from ourselves and the Villa .
Our back four did very well against the constant pressing of the villa midfield and strikers . Ciara Corcoran made her presence known and really helped to distribute the ball .
Five minutes after the first water break , Corcoran got a shot off to Emily Blackmore who was fouled . And had a free awarded
Sommer Grant stepped up to take the kick , and it finished in the net giving us the lead which we took to the half time break .
Both teams took to the field with Gusto for the second half … Cayla Dunphy , Kate McGrath and Ciara O Keeffe all had their work cut out for them , with the always reliable Ella Bailey on hand when needed .
A clearance from Ciara O Keeffe over the top , was run on to by Emily Blackmore who got the shot away and looked to have beaten the villa keeper, but the ball landed just short of the line , with Grace O Toole making no mistake in slotting it to the net to give the girls a 2-0 lead .
There was a 25 minute period where the exchanges were back and forth before Villa pounced slotting to the net to put the game back into the melting pot with ten minutes to go.
Our keeper was superb today and pulled off some fantastic saves and her communication and direction to her players today was great.
With this all the girls pulled together and saw the last ten minutes out for the win.
A very close encounter between both teams were hard work and determination got us over the line.
Super Sunday for the SchoolGirls
Okay Saturday was great and Sunday proved to be a Super one too.
U10s: the u10s Girls played against Piltown and had a hatful of goals to show for their efforts.
U14s: Played against Carrick Utd, and at one stage were 0-2 down but fought back to 2-2 only to see a crossbar deny them a win and then a late goal to take away the draw, but a great game all around.
U17s travelled unmass to the Villa on Sunday afternoon and came away with a famous 2-1 win. A full match report on this one to follow soon.
