U13 C league: Mooncoin 8 Ballinroad 2

After a 9 month absence league football returned for our 13’s. Such a long gap between games but we continued where we left off by scoring a super team goal with great passing involved with captain fantastic Emily on hand to notch our first goal back. A ding ding for 15 mins with the score at 3-2 but we settled into our passing game which allowed our new strike duo to cause havoc Emily went onto score a double hat-rick and Sean adding 2.
Despite the scoreline we were made work really hard for our win by our brave visitors a super squad performance all round. Man of the match Emmet Cusack in he’s first full game of football covered every blade of grass and won endless amounts of ball to allow us play the way we want. Great start back next up bohs.

4th division result: Mooncoin Celtic 0 Ferrybank 0

Stalemate in Ashgrove this morning between 2 evenly matched teams.

It took a few minutes to settle in today and it was Ferrybank who had a good chance after 10 minutes but Barry Hearne stopped with his legs. We eventually got the ball down and eventually got a hold on the game. Some of the passing and final ball in to attack was delightful to watch. Neville Synott was a constant thorn in their side all day. We were possibly denied a penalty when Brendan Bradleys shot was stopped by a defenders arms in the 6 yard box. Daragh Beagan was inches away from scoring from a header but just missed out. Both teams hit the cross bar in the second half but overall a fair result.

Best on show Scoby, Neville and Mickey Comerford.

Two well organised teams.

U 12 result: Ferrybank B 2 Mooncoin Celtic 3

Since this fixture was announced this squad have been putting in a massive effort in training and it truly payed off. We came into this game missing a couple of key players but it showed the strength this squad has with a few changes at the back the defence was strong and kept Ferrybank to very few chances in the first half.

A great save from Jake Moore seen the ball rebound out to a Ferrybank player and seen us go behind. But not the first time this season we went into the break 1-0 down but the pure determination and desire of this team seen us come running out of the blocks in the second half and we’re well on top with a goal on the horizon. Emily Blackmore came on at half time and put the Ferrybank defence under great pressure with her pace down the wing and it eventually payed off as the ball was deflected into the air and seen Aidan Carroll get his head to the ball and knock it into an empty net to make it 1-1.

We kept pressing Ferrybank while playing some lovely football the second was always on the way. The pure determination and excellent work rate from Aidan who covered every corner of the pitch seen him grab a second to put us in the lead. With Michael Cronin, Patrick Dermody and David O’Shea holding strong at the back there was still very few chances for the home side and we eventually found ourselves in the promising position of being 3-1 up. The ever present and captain for the day Eoin O’Callaghan added to his goal tally for the season and seen him make it 3 goals in 3 games in what was a superb performance from him on the wing.

Ferrybank made it 3-2 late on and put us under a lot of pressure but a few changes to our formation to strengthen up the back seen us hold out and take all 3 points. Great credit to all kids involved yesterday what a superb bunch of kids coach. Team ; Moore, Cronin, O’Shea, Dermody, O’Callaghan (C), Carroll, Croke, Dunphy, Wall. (Subs) Cuddihy, Blackmore, O’Keefe, Byrne, Herron. Scorer : Carroll (2), O’Callaghan.

2B Result: BOHEMIANS FC 1-4 MOONCOIN CELTIC.

It was a bitterly cold night in Wadding park tonight but that did not refrain the Mooncoin march to finish out the first half of the season unbeaten. Bohs played large parts of the first half in possession, constantly looking for a defense splitting pass that unfortunately for them, were knocking on the wrong door.

It was Mooncoin who took the lead, a penalty was awarded and penalty supremo Kipper O’Brien arrowed it into the top left corner of the net. Shortly after it was 2-0, Kelly whipped in a free kick from the right and Kavanagh headed into the far corner of the net and that’s how it stayed until half time. The opening quarter of an hour seen us slow out of the blocks and Bohs got one back with a shot from distance. Defiantly, our togetherness was not shattered, we push and pressed and eventually Synnott gave a ball to Kevin Walsh, he turn onto his preferred right foot, his shot was deflected and looped into the Bohs net. To seal the deal there was a mix up at the back for the home side, the ball fell for Synnott and he slotted it home for a comfortably victory.

Man of the match Johnny Kavanagh work tirelessly from start to finish and was a stand out performance on the night. It has been a very rewarding first half to the season for the squad who have yet to fall behind in a game all season and have picked up 25 out of a possible 27 points .

Well done to all the squad .
