Tomorrow a little bit of history will be made with two of our girls included in the Waterford Girls development squads at u13 and u15 respectively. Emily Blackmore will play with the u13 squad at 12.00 against South Tipperary, followed by Ciara O’Keeffe in the u15 squad at 2pm against South Tipperary again. Both games take place in the wonderful Cahir Park complex. The very best of luck to both girls from all in Mooncoin Celtic.
WSFL Under 14 C League Mooncoin Celtic 1 vs Ballyduff 2
A disappointing result to a game we should have walked away with all 3pts from. However luck wasn’t on our side today. A big shake up the line up seemed to pay dividends for us as we had most of the possession throughout. We brought a tough physical game Ballyduff today and were by far the better side. Ballyduff opened the scoring today after a mistake at the back. We drew level early in the second half. We pressed and pressed but couldn’t find an opening and in the last few minutes a dodgy penalty decision took the game away from us. We had 16 in the squad today and they all deserved to be players of the match as everyone gave 110%.. well done to all in involved and 2019 is going to be exciting for this bunch of players..
Fixtures for the weekend
Tomorrow:
U12 home to Abbeyside, kick off 10.30
With this squad improving with every game, the coaches will be confident of securing three points in this one.
U14 home to Ballyduff, kick off 12.30
Two wins followed by two defeats have shown the tight margins in this league. Two hard training sessions midweek will have the lads ready for the league leaders.
2a home to Dungarvan, kick off 2pm.
It feels like an eternity since this squad played with very few games taking place in this league in general. Hopefully the rustiness won’t be too bad.
Sunday:
Youths home to Kilmacow, kick off 2pm
After last week’s entertaining game against the Villa last week where they kept into A league leaders throughout, the boys will hope to stay on track in the league against near neighbours Kilmacow.
Support for all teams is most welcome.
Big well done to Emily Blackmore
Big well done to Emily Blackmore who has been selected for the Waterford girls u13 squad for this weekend’s game against south Tipperary.
Following on from Ciara O’Keeffe’s selection at u15 level, it is great news for the recently established girls section. With Emily u12 aswell for the coming season, she will be a busy young lady. Trials have been held the last number of weeks with a few other of our girls taking part in the u12 trials, so we’ll keep the fingers crossed that we might have another one or two representatives at development squad level.
Best of luck at the weekend Emily.
Congratulations to Ciara O’Keeffe
Congratulations to Ciara O’Keeffe who has been selected on the Waterford girls U15 squad for upcoming games and training.
Ciara has been playing the last 4/5 years with our boys teams and has really stood out with our girls u14 team which started this season. Great credit to this young girl who shows willingness to learn and progress at every opportunity.
A proud day for her parents Michael and Sheila aswell.
Munster Youth Cup Result: Villa 7 Mooncoin 3
The heavens opened just before kick off in Connors park and rained down goals for a highly entertaining 90 mins of football.
The playing surface was of the highest quality and both teams used the greasy surface to great effect .We started the game superbly and pressed the home side back in their own half for the first 10 mins and created a few good chances.
We took the lead on 15 mins when Dan Cleary picked up the ball outside the box and jinked his way through a few tackles before firing a super shot past the Villa keeper.
The pace of the game moved onto a different level after this and the home side gained the upper hand with relentless pressure and scored three before the half hour mark.
In fairness to the lads they kicked back into gear and finished the half the better side and Daniel Fewer Ward went close to getting a couple of goals back in the closing minutes of the half.
The home side made a couple of substitutions at half time and settled into the opening stages of the half better with some great passages of attacking football.
A lapse in concentration left Villa in for a soft 4th goal and a dubious 5 th followed soon after .
Tiring bodies forced a few substitutions and we got back into the game with fresh legs and quick counter attacking football.
Daniel was unlucky again when he hit the post and the rebound fell to Lee Tracey who dodged one defender only to be taken down by the next.
He dusted himself off to rifle the penalty to the roof of the net to make it 5-2…
At this stage the game was flowing at a frantic pace and Villa got in for a few chances only to find Darragh in stubborn form with a few quality saves. We got to within 2 goals of our hosts when Jack Ryan raced onto a loose ball in midfield and split the defence with a great pass for Lee to run onto and take it past the keeper and chip the retreating defenders for a top quality goal.
Unfortunately with our continuous attacking we left ourselves exposed at the back and Villa tapped in two more in the final minutes for a 7-3 victory.
A highly competitive and entertaining game that the lads gave everything they had and I’m sure they will have gained vital experience to help them progress in the league.
U15 Result: Bohs B 0 Mooncoin Celtic 2
A sloppy game with heavy underfoot conditions making it very tough on both sides. A rejig to the line up yielded three points here with Kieran Fagan grabbing both goals in a solid display. Man of the match Luke Ramaswamy with Liam Quinn doing well throughout aswell.
U11s hosting Bohs
Our U11s hosted Bohs today in nice conditions in Ashgrove and two cracking haves took place between the clubs. Goals a plenty with a special mention to Josh McLoughlin who turned one game on its head. Well done to coaches and all kids in this one.
Fixtures for the weekend:
Saturday
U11 home to Bohs, kick off 10.30
A large squad continues to train and play their mini world cup to keep a real competitive edge to their game. This is starting to reflect in the league games so they should be well capable of matching Bohs.
U15 away to Bohs, kick off 2.30
This squad share top spot in what I’d going to be a tight league with any one of four teams capable of winning it. They’ll get nothing easy in the RSC against a decent Bohs side.
Youths away to Villa, kick off 7pm
A Munster youth cup game against A league side Villa will be a good test for this squad who are gradually improving as a squad in every game.
Sunday:
U10 girls away to Railway/Cappoquin, kick off 12.30
This young group of girls are improving every week in training and will put everything in to this game as they aim for their first win.
U14 girls away to Railway/Cappoquin, kick off 12.30
After the disappointing defeat to Tramore, you’d think these girls would be downbeat. Not this bunch, who rolled up the sleeves the last two weeks and trained hard. Fingers crossed they’ll get their rewards on Sunday.
Support for all teams is most welcome as always.
