U16 Girls League Piltown 3 Mooncoin Celtic 1

Today we made the short trip to our neighbours Piltown for our second league match of the season. The game started off evenly and both teams were giving everything. Unfortunately an error by Mooncoin gave our hosts a goal that they didn’t deserve. Piltown buoyed by this pushed on and through some fantastic skill by Piltown they doubled the lead. After the hairdryer treatment from JP and a couple of changes to our formation at halftime our girls took to the field with extra impetus. We pulled a goal back thru a superb Ella Brennan long range free kick that left the goalie no chance. The girls pushed on and went very close towards the end when the ball was pinballed around the Piltown 6 yards box for what felt like an eternity but unfortunately we couldn’t find the net. In the last minute Piltown got a corner kick from which they scored a third goal.
All 15 girls that travelled got a good run out and all gave a good account of themselves. After the game even the Piltown coaches couldn’t understand how the ball didn’t cross the line to make it 2 2. But that’s football for you.
We go again on Sunday next at 11.30am in the SFAI Cup at home in Suir Cresent against Stoneyford. Hopefully these girls can put today’s result behind them and focus on next weekend.

U14 SFAI Trophy Result Killeshin 6 Mooncoin Celtic 4

A cold dry day in Co Laois today saw a hatful of goals scored and to be honest it could have been a lot more with both sides going very close on numerous occasions. We led 2-1 at half time with Briona and Ciara scoring and we went 3-1 up right after half time through Sophie. Killeshin pulled a goal back but we restored our 2 goal advantage with Lexi putting us 4-2 up with 15 minutes left. Killeshin’s two star player’s then clicked in to gear and pegged us back to 4-4 with a minute to go and two goals in injury time saw Killeshin advance. Brilliant performance going forward by both teams, two good goalkeeping displays kept the score to 6-4 in a crazy entertaining game. A very disappointed bunch got back on the bus without the win but can be proud of their efforts. Thanks to Killeshin for after match refreshments and best of luck in the rest of the competition. Please note, the team photo was taken after the game, hence no smiles๐Ÿ˜ž.

Girls u18 League Mooncoin Celtic 0 Bohemians 1

Our u18s took to the pitch for a Home fixture against Bohemians. Previous fixtures between the sides have been one sided affairs , but today every one of the girls 1-15 battled to keep the Margin to the bare minimum. With a single goal for bohemians the 25th minute the difference.
The girls battled hard from first minute , and worked tirelessly together throughout , with a couple of chances coming our way to equalise , unfortunately we didnโ€™t capitalise on them . A very good performance from our side today with plenty to work on for the next game .

U14 SFAI Trophy Mooncoin Celtic 2 Peake Villa 5

A beautiful day in Suir Crescent was the setting for u14 SFAI trophy meeting of Mooncoin Celtic and Peake Villa of Thurles. The first half was tight and a free kick from Villa pounced on by their striker with a volley that gave Bradley no chance in goal was the difference. In the second half Mooncoin came out stronger and Robbie won a penalty which he stepped up to smash in to the top corner. The next goal would be key and from a Mooncoin half clearance from a corner, Villa’s full back hit a sweet shot into the top of the goal. A couple of quick goals followed and Mooncoin had a tough task. Cathal scored with a bullet header from a pinpoint free kick from Shane. A final goal from Villa stopped a comeback to end the match 2-5. Good luck to Peake Villa in the next round.

U14 Girls Result Mooncoin Celtic 3 Ballinroad 2

Ballinroad travelled to Suir Crescent Sunday morning and they definitely came to play. We controlled the game for long periods of the first half with some great possession football. Alexi W scored our first, followed by a second from Briona V. After a quick counter attack lead to a penalty we went in 2-1 up at half time. We started the second half with some great passages of play leading to our third goal scored by Anna R. A second penalty for Ballinroad made for a nervy finish, but after a great team performance we finished with a deserved three points.

U12 SFAI Cup Result Clerihan FC 0 Mooncoin Celtic 1

A dominant display away to Tipperary outfit saw the lads progress to the next round. Plenty chances throughout but good defending and great goalkeeping kept the score at nil all at half time. Straight from kick off, Richard H fed James who slipped Peter W in and he teed up Ryan S to prod past the keeper for the games only goal. All 12 on duty played their part today.
