The only game we played this weekend and a 50/50 gane unfolded out in Park Rangers with very little between the 2 sides. Shay M did an excellent job breaking up play and using his dribbling to create plenty chances throughout the game while Billy F was using his pace on the right side of midfield to create a chance every time he got the ball. We were also unlucky in the first half through Pete D who also had a shot saved. Patrick O’H did a great job in the goal making plenty saves throughout. 2nd half was very similar with both teams creating chances but we unfortunately couldn’t find a goal today. Park Rangers smashed a volley into the top corner from just outside the box leaving Patrick rooted to the spot with nothing to do. Despite the result the boys gave it there all and have come on a long way from the start of the season and their hard work on the training ground is paying off. Standout performances for Billy F who was a danger every time he got the ball, Shay M who showed great leadership skills and dictated all play in the middle of the park, Patrick O’H who put on another super performance in the goal and Teddy D who was put in centre back for his first time in the second half and didn’t leave anything get past him.
At last we get U10 Girls Player of the year for last season, Gwen Dermody with her trophy. Gwen has been in top form this season since stepping up to U11 and she also plays with the U12s. A big future ahead for this young lady who rarely puts a foot wrong.
U11A League Villa 2 Mooncoin Celtic 0 Our young side went toe to toe with Villa on the astro on Saturday and gave a very good account of themselves making Villa work for the three points until the very last minute.
U11D League Mooncoin Celtic 1 Hibs 4 A Liam MC goal put the boys 1 up against a strong Hibs side and this was a much improved performance for this group with plenty games to come in the coming weeks.
U11E League Mooncoin Celtic 3 Kilmacow 0 The lads got back to winning ways in a windy suir crescent on Saturday morning. Corey opened the scoring with a tidy finish from a great corner from Charlie. Some good work from Edmund slipped in captain for the day Jim who finished smartly to put us two up. Kilmacow started the second half much better than us with Corey and Cormac saving us on a couple occasions. Late in to the second half Kieran ran on to a powerful goal kick from Cormac and buried it past the keeper for our 3rd. A great performance all round in tricky conditions with Corey man of the match for heroics at both end.
U11G League Mooncoin Celtic 3 Kilmac 6 Goals from Harry and two from Kieran had the youngest group 3-2 up at half time. Tired legs and a bigger Kilmac side getting on top saw the tables turned in the second half.
U13C League Mooncoin Celtic 1 Tramore 4 League leaders came to Suir Crescent and showed why they are the ones to catch in this league. Aaron D with the goal for us but Tramore ran out comfortable winners.
U15C League Ballinroad 8 Mooncoin Celtic 2 We were 2-0 down within 15 mins. Ben pulled one back just before half time. Ballinroad scored straight from the kickoff in the second half adding 2 more before Charlie was taken down halfway through the 2nd half and Cathal scored the penalty. We had missed a few chances where ballinroad took their chances. Good game despite the result. Charlie M and Dylan Mc were outstanding today.
Ladies Munster Junior Cup Cahir Park 1 Mooncoin Celtic 6 A strong display from our senior girls who showed no mercy on a young Cahir team with hat tricks from Emily Blackmore and Becky Derwin sending the ladies through to the next round.
U12 Girls Result Mooncoin Celtic 2 Park Rangers 4 Our U12 girls had a right old battle with Park Rangers on a sticky pitch on Sunday morning. Goals from Caitlín Pryor and Aoibhe Vereker were not enough on the day to get the three points.
1B League Park Rangers 5 Mooncoin Celtic 1 A disastrous start with the concession of two early goals set us back but we slowly got in to the game with plenty chances coming our way. We pulled a goal back through Kieran Fagan on the stroke of half time and rejigged formation at the break to try get on top. Plenty chances again were created but no finished product. Park Rangers capitalised on a lapse in concentration to put a two goal cushion between the teams and two late goals put a gloss on the scoreline. The display of young Tadhg Derwin on goal was the only positive we can take from it.
U16 Girls Result Dungarvan United 1 Mooncoin Celtic 4 A cracking away win for this squad with goals from Molly Q, Molly M, Ella B and Aoibhe R saw three points secured.
Our ladies team made the trip to Cahir on Saturday afternoon for a Munster Cup clash with Cahir Park . Recording our Ladies team first ever win in a Cup Competition . The girls got off to a flyer on the 15 minute mark when Emily Blackmore finished from a superb Sommer Grant pass . Adding to the tally on the 25 min mark when Sommer delivered a corner to the box where Emily was waiting to calmly volley home . Our back four of Grace O Toole , Kate McGrath and Niamh Reddy , led by Amy Lehane really settled into the game clearing and extinguishing any threat from the home team . On 35 mins, Sommer was yet again the conductor and sent a fast ball through to Becky Derwin to dispatched the ball to the back of the net . The second half was every bit as lively and eventful as the first. Shaunna Mullowney played a key role in mid field along with Bethany Carroll and both ladies dictated the play for much of the game , on the 50 minute mark Emily scored her third of the day with a shot outside the box . The introduction of subs freshened us up , with all the girls making an impact . Becky completed her hatrick on 80 mins with a through Ball from Sommer to the over lapping Kate Mcgrath who pulled the ball back for Becky to slot home . Stand out Performances on the day from … Sommer, Bethany, Shaunna and our hatrick duo of Emily and Beckey. Well done girls
Our girls took to the road today for the trip to Dungarvan. An early 11am kick off, and it was Mooncoin who were awake first. On 2 minutes the deadlock was broken when Mollie Murphy slotted home from a corner. On 15 minutes another Molly, Molly Quinn doubled our lead. Our girls were in control of the game from the very start. Ella Brennan made it 3 nil on 35 minutes when she managed to keep her shot low and into the net. On the hour mark Aoibhe Rees put her mark on the game when she made it 4. Dungarvan got a consolation goal shortly after but the result was never in doubt. All 17 girls that travelled got good game time and all played they’re part. Great team performance. Let’s keep it going girls.
Congratulations to this evening’s 50 50 draw winner, Ina Dunne who wins €150. Ina purchased her envelope in Comerfords Pub. Thank you as always for your continued support.
A hugely entertaining game against neighbors Piltown with little or nothing between the two sides. Both sides made loads of chances that should have been put away but it was one of those days. Piltown started to dictate the run of the game after 20 mins but against the run of play. Liam Mackey gave a beautiful thru ball to Marcos to leave him 1 on 1 with the keeper. After a great attempted save Marcos Bometon found the corner of the net. Again Piltown stepped it up and equalised before half time deservedly. After the break we started to find more space in behind the defenders and we started created some chances. Lots of which we should have converted. Fortunately we did take the lead with Liam Mackey putting us 2-1 up. Piltown didn’t give and kept coming at us but we were after finding a bit of an edge upfront. Emmett Cusack had a few chances but was clear on goal and taken down in the box. Liam Mackey converted the penalty to put us 3-1 up. Both teams finished off the game with more chances to score but we held out for the 3 points with the game being steadied by our three subs. Great team performance all round but and a few stand out ones in Micheal Murphy, Ben Buckley, Josh McLaughlin, Cian O’Leary and a safe pair of hands in goal Emily Blackmore. Man of the Match must go to Liam Mackey.. All credit to the team. Emily Blackmore, Cian O’Leary, Cormac Fenton, Gavin Coady, Ben Buckley, Josh McLaughlin, Lucas Delahunty, Micheal Murphy, Liam Mackey, Marcos Bometon, Emmett Cusack. Subs who came one were Ben Dawson, Adam Corcoran, Eoghan Drennan. Huge praise for a very good Piltown team and best of luck for the rest of the season.
Our u14girls traveled to Ballinroad today hoping to keep their unbeaten run intact. It was a very close game and we weren’t at our best. Siobhan scored the first with a great strike. Ballinroad equalised close to half time after the ball fell kindly from a free kick. Lexi put away a penalty on the stroke of half time, when Siobhan was taken down in the box after a great run at the Ballinroad defence. Second half saw both teams create chances and our opposition got the equaliser. Sophie Phelan was determined for Mooncoin to take all three points, and scored a fantastic individual goal. Final score 2-3 to Mooncoin.
