U13 result: St Paul’s 7 Mooncoin Celtic 1

After the good away win last week, this squad were back down to earth with a bump against an impressive Paul’s team on Thursday evening. 3 early goals finished this as a contest with the lads chasing from the off. Sam Hartwell did pull a goal back but St Paul’s were just too strong. A couple of league games remain for this squad before they start their cup campaign.

U11s played Ballyduff

U11s played Ballyduff in Ashgrove Thursday evening and put on a great show even though they were missing a number of players. Goals galore from both clubs with bags of skill and talent on display.

U12 result: Mooncoin Celtic 0 Kilmacow 1

Kilmacow arrived in Ashgrove this morning expect to keep touch with leaders Seaview but got one hell of a fright against a depleted u12 squad. Many u11s stepped up and did not disappoint as they bombarded Kilmacow in the 2nd half. At one stage the 9 on the pitch consisted of just 2 u12s, 6 u11s and some u10. Happy coach who will look forward to the upcoming cup very confident. Great performance, where Kilmacow snatched the derby win.

U14 result, Mooncoin Celtic 2 Tramore B 1

Brilliant performance & win from the lads today ! due to a number of players absent, three U13s got the call up Alex Bailey, Adam Conway & Sam Hartwell & by god did they answer ! With only minutes gone Liam Quinn broke free from the defence & lobbed an oncoming keeper only to see it come back off the post, from that Mooncoin kept the pressure on Tramore and moments later Kieran went on one of his runs beating two defenders & a top class finish 1-0 Mooncoin, this seemed to wake up Tramore & half time couldn’t come fast enough as they started to get on top, Mooncoin started the second half with a few chances, but Tramore kept the pressure on and scored from a corner with 15 minutes left, as the clock wore down another draw was looking likely, until Sam Hartwell chased down a through ball his first touch was super and and his second even better 2-1 .Very impressive debut by the 3 lads .Man of the match Alex Bailey who could not have given any more, also Jack, Luke & Adrian never put a foot wrong . Great win.

Fixtures for the weekend

Tomorrow u12 home to Kilmacow, kick off 10.30. Derek’s squad has been having little luck recently and will hope their fortunes turn tomorrow in this derby match against high flying Kilmacow. With the introduction of a couple of u11s into the squad, they will be aiming to get a run going before their cup starts.

U14 home to Tramore B, kick off 12.30.Dick and Connie’s squad will hope to build on last weekend’s good performance against Ferrybank when they host Tramore who will be well up for this after their own good result against Kilmacow.

Support for both sides is most welcome.

4th division result, Red Star 0 Mooncoin Celtic 2

A second game in 3 nights for the Veterans and they left it late to clinch the points v red star this evening with a 2-0 win (both goals coming in the last five minutes). Very even game of stalemate with the best chance falling to Darragh to open the scoring but unfortunately the ball clipped the cross bar and went over from a close range effort off the knee.A switch to three up front saw Scoby take a pass out on the sideline and take the initiative. A quick look up to see the keeper off the line and BOOM. Easily 50 yards and over the keeper’s head to get us off the mark. The man is unstoppable!! Spud made it two a few minutes later with the last kick of the game (with his right foot). Word of advise from the faint hearted: Score in the first five minutes in future boys! Well done

2nd division cup result Villa 5 Mooncoin 0

The 2b league winners hopes of league and cup double came to an end last night at the hands of villa , who are a division above in the 2a. Rain and a very strong breeze against us in the first half made it difficult but the lads stuck to the task and probably had the best chance for either team when Daniel sent in a free to brother Ian synnott who glanced a header just wide. 0-0 at halftime which wasn’t bad going against a well drilled villa side . After the break the wind completely went away an we thought this would make for good football and we could really give it a go , but the opposite happened . We started off slow and 5mins into the second half villa swung in a corner for a unmarked man to score at backpost . At 1-0 we were still in it but needed to freshen up , Kieran o Brien and Jason Sauvage came off for robbie walsh and Patrick dalton . No less than 3mins after the substitutions , very sloppy play in our back line gave villa striker a run through on goal , dalton had no choice but to dive in , but he got man only which gave them a penalty and a 2-0 lead and dalton was red carded . The lads didn’t give up to be fair an kept trying but a man down against a good side the game got stretched as a result more bad defending on 70mins saw us go 3-0 down . We made 3 more changes pj for joey , Moore for bunny and scholsey for beano . The game was gone though and as we tryed in vain to score one , villa broke away again to score 4-0. And near the end more tired play say a villa striker run clear to chip our keeper to end a bad cup night for the lads .

Team – Ross o keeffe , joey o Hanlon , Jason sauvage, Ivan Tobin , chris o Hanlon , Ethan Ryan , Kieran o Brien , Daniel synnott , Kevin Dowley , Ian synnott , Johnny Kavanagh . Subs used – robbie walsh , Patrick dalton , pj McGrath , eoghan walsh , Jamie Moore .

Although it was a tough way to go out of the cup this squad of lads have absolutely nothing to be dissappointed
about after they won the 2b division dropping only 5points all season . This was the first junior level success in the club for 15years which was a massive achievement so heads up lads and well done a great season . Hon the coin ☘️☘️☘️
