A disappointing result for Derek’s squad but the better team edged it in this south Kilkenny derby between neighbouring villages which was a first in a schoolboy cup final. An even enough first half with very few chances created by either team. The second half started with Mooncoin pushing a little higher up the pitch which left them open to the break which is how Kilmacow nicked the opener with a very good break and finish. With the clock ticking down, pressure needed to increase and try as they might with Ciara O’Keeffe launching long throws and Michael Cronin with a number of frees they couldn’t break down a solid Kilmacow defence. A second goal from another quick break finished the game as a contest and so the dream was over. A valuable bit of experience gained today which will stand to them in years to come. A big thank you to all the support in Tramore this morning for the squad, especially all the parents of the players who must be commended for their superb support all season regardless of results. To Derek Tebay, Thomas O’Brien and Catherine Blackmore for their efforts, a massive thanks. Finally to the squad who have entertained us the last few weeks in a splendid cup run, take a well deserved bow. Not to be today, but they’ll be back stronger than ever next season. Congratulations to Kilmacow on their victory and the very best of luck in the upcoming u13 cup final.
