U11 boys blitz

Our u11 boys travelled to the complex in Kilmacow for the Maria Grace memorial tournament and competed in two groups with Kilmacow, Portlaw and Bohs. Plenty of goals and some excellent football played by all four clubs throughout. A special mention to the u9s who togged out with Robbie Sutton, Sam Ponce de Leon and the talented Ethan Owens showing why they all have a big future. Well done to all and thanks to John and Barry Hearne for looking after the teams this morning.
Compliments must be paid to Kilmacow Fc for the running of the tournament this morning before a large crowd.

U14 Girls Cup Result: Mooncoin Celtic 3 Cappoquin 4

A disappointing result for the girls after looking good for victory with 15 minutes remaining. Cappoquin were the better side in the first half and deservedly led 1-0 before Caoimhe Hartwell scrambled home an equalizer. A stirring talk at half time by the coaches saw a revitalized home team take the game to Cappoquin and an Emily Blackmore strike put them 2-1 up. Kayleigh Smith had a good chance to extend the lead but missed the target after some great work. With the girls retreating under pressure from Cappoquin the worst was feared and Cappoquin capitalized on it with an equalizer and a quick third goal to put themselves ahead within two minutes. A fourth goal on the break was the sickening blow but again the girls dusted themselves down and another Emily goal set up a grandstand finish but the clock ticked away without the equalizer coming.
Cappoquin deservedly shaded this cup tie and the disappointment among the girls afterwards shows how far they’ve come since the start of the season. Best of luck to Cappoquin in the next round and big thanks to referee Noel Lavery for his constant encouragement for both sides throughout.

U14 Girls Result: Bohs 3 Mooncoin Celtic 0

As mentioned previously in the Lismore report, the girls are learning and did they give Bohs a scare. Their best performance of the season was put in and confidence was up when they went in 0-0 at half time. We also mentioned experience in the previous reports and Bohs showed their experience by grinding out the result. But again, these girls played the game full of heart and enthusiasm and as always a smile afterwards.
Very proud coaches after playing the top 3 in just 7 days, a wee bit of confidence going into the cup tie against Cappoquin this Sunday.

U14 Girls Result: Lismore 9 Mooncoin Celtic 0

The scoreline suggests a riot, and the league leaders did put up a decent score but the first twenty minutes were very tight until a lucky break caught the girls off guard. With our tiring legs and an impressive home team coming at them, the goals flowed in the 2nd half but our girls can be proud of themselves for sticking at it and playing the game with a smile on their face regardless. Tough scoreline to take but the girls are learning as they gather experience in their first ever season playing soccer, something we must not forget.

U14 Girls Result Carrick Utd 6 Mooncoin Celtic 0

As usual, a gutsy display from the girls who displayed huge heart in putting it up to a strong Carrick outfit who found it hard to break the girls down. Ciara O’Keeffe was a thorn in Carrick’s side throughout but their experience came through.
A very sporting and nice touch by Carrick when Ciara O’Keeffe was presented with the player of the match trophy afterwards.
