From the off our young ladies side set their stall out to frustrate Benfica for as long as possible and try catch them on the break. Our young back 4 were superb throughout the first half and really limited Benfica to long range shots. A lapse on 15 minutes was the only downside when a run from deep by the Benfica winger resulted in the opener. The whole midfield and Caoimhe Power up top done huge work throughout the first half and deserved more for their efforts. 1 nil at half time. A similar plan for the second half was set out but an early goal from a corner put a bit of daylight between the teams. A late third goal by Benfica saw them progress but a huge sense of pride in the disciplined performance by our young starting side with an average age of just 19.
