Girls SFAI Cup U16s Stoneyford FC 2 Mooncoin Celtic 4

It was an early Saturday morning road trip for the girls with the 11am kick off away to last years league and Cup Winners in Carlow Vale Wanderers. Following on from our first league match a defeat, We as a group had put in immense amount of work and effort on the training pitch. And it showed. We took the lead through Aoibhe Rees early in the game, and our lead was doubled by Áine Connery. The first half was controlled perfectly by the girls, and we were unlucky not to have a bigger lead at the halfway stage. The second half started with the girls pushing for a third goal to kill the game off. The goal did come from Áine who had a super game. Wanderers rallied and pulled a sloppy goal back, and with their tails up, they managed to get a second one that Sadhbh in goal, had no chance. We endured a tense few minutes, and We were very grateful to (safe hands)Sadhbh when she pulled out a couple of great saves to keep our slender lead. The girls regrouped and took control of the game when Saoirse Corcoran played in midfield for the first time, got into the opposing box to clinch a late fourth goal to put in result to bed.(and win a €5 from JP)
It was a performance that the girls can be very proud of. From the goalie to the defence to the midfield to the strikers to the subs, this was a super performance that earns us a home tie against Stoneyford FC in the next round. Well done to all involved.

U11A League Result Mooncoin Celtic 1 Southend United 4

Despite the result it was a very positive performance for our young side. In the first half we went 1-0 down from a Southend rebound off the crossbar where we didn’t win the 2nd ball. The boys kept battling hard and got a couple chances but it wasn’t to be. Southend got goals 2 and 3 early in the 2nd half both from corners that should’ve been cleared. They also followed up with a 4th not long after. Despite everything the boys kept pushing until they finally got a goal with TJ kicking the ball from his hand out to Tadhg M on the right wing who crossed the ball for Donncha M to slot into the bottom left corner. TJ made plenty saves throughout the game that should’ve been certain goals. Special mention goes to Tom D who threw his body in the way to block some certain goals and standing solid in his first game in centre back.

U18 Girls League Carrick utd 1 Mooncoin Celtic 2

Mooncoin travelled to Carrick yesterday for an u18 girls fixture ,and left Tom Drohan Park with all three points on Offer .
We started the game well moved the ball very well , getting our heads up and making some good passes . We scored on the 20 minute mark when Sommer took a corner sending the ball in , with Molly long making sure it made its way to the back of the net . And saw a second added on 35 minutes when Sarah walsh threaded a beaut of a ball to Ella Brennan who took her chance and slotted home.
The second half saw our goalie Grace O Toole take a spill and unable to see the remainder of the Game out . Emily Blackmore was on hand and donned the goalie gloves , and we continued with the game . Some sloppy defensive work saw us conseed a goal from a carrick corner , which made for another exciting and nail biting finish to the game .
On the whole our back Four did a superb job. Working together at all times . Everyone one of the girls who took part today gave it their all ,and were rewarded at the full time whistle taking away all three points

1B League Result Mooncoin Celtic 2 Park Rangers 3

A slow start again saw us two down after 15 minutes with two rebounds tucked away. We did settle down and pulled a goal back on 20 minutes but were dealt a major set back with a straight red card dished out for a late challenge. We equalised on 30 minutes through Adam Conway with an excellent finish from 25 yards. Our ten men worked tirelessly for the entire second half but a soft free kick with 10 minutes to go saw Park Rangers grab the 3 points.
