U14 SFAI Trophy Mooncoin Celtic 2 Peake Villa 5

A beautiful day in Suir Crescent was the setting for u14 SFAI trophy meeting of Mooncoin Celtic and Peake Villa of Thurles. The first half was tight and a free kick from Villa pounced on by their striker with a volley that gave Bradley no chance in goal was the difference. In the second half Mooncoin came out stronger and Robbie won a penalty which he stepped up to smash in to the top corner. The next goal would be key and from a Mooncoin half clearance from a corner, Villa’s full back hit a sweet shot into the top of the goal. A couple of quick goals followed and Mooncoin had a tough task. Cathal scored with a bullet header from a pinpoint free kick from Shane. A final goal from Villa stopped a comeback to end the match 2-5. Good luck to Peake Villa in the next round.

U14 Girls Result Mooncoin Celtic 3 Ballinroad 2

Ballinroad travelled to Suir Crescent Sunday morning and they definitely came to play. We controlled the game for long periods of the first half with some great possession football. Alexi W scored our first, followed by a second from Briona V. After a quick counter attack lead to a penalty we went in 2-1 up at half time. We started the second half with some great passages of play leading to our third goal scored by Anna R. A second penalty for Ballinroad made for a nervy finish, but after a great team performance we finished with a deserved three points.

U14B League Result Piltown 1 Mooncoin Celtic 1

Our first league match this season for our u14 lads against Piltown was also our first ever match under floodlights. The game was a tight affair with both sets of players keen to win this local derby. Piltown shaded the first half and went in one nil after a quick throw in caught our lads out of position. Mooncoin came out stronger in the second half and Robbie got on the end of a pass from James to slot the ball past the keeper. Both keepers pulled off top class saves throughout the match to keep the final score to 1-1. Both teams could have won it but a draw was a fair result in the end.

Munster Junior Cup Result Mooncoin Celtic 0 Waterford Crystal 6

Premier outfit Waterford Crystal were our opponents this morning and we set out to frustrate them from the start and it was working a treat for 20 minutes with long range efforts Crystal’s only outlet. A lapse in concentration saw Crystal score from a quick corner to get ahead and a penalty just before half time saw us go in 2 down. Two quick fire goals from two quick fire mistakes on 46 minutes saw the game over as a contest. Crystal notched another two to see out a comfortable win.

Mooncoin Celtic Academy kicks off

Sun shining on a Saturday morning in early October and our ever growing academy restarted under a new title with the late Tom ‘Dixie’ Conway being remembered with the new name of Mooncoin Celtic Dixie Dribbers Academy and being kindly being sponsored by Blanchfields Centra, Hr Delahunty Solicitors and Watmór Construction and Civil Ltd.
Tom ‘Dixie’ Conway was one of the men who kickstarted schoolboys soccer in the club back in the 70s and put huge hours in to providing soccer for so many kids in our club. The club were delighted when the Conway family gave the OK for honouring Tom in such a manner. His son Brendan and daughter Jacqueline were present this morning to mark the occasion with a nice few photos. Great fun was had for the hour with happy faces going home. Our two player of the week winners Tomás D and Cathal W were presented with their trophies by new academy Co-ordinator Celina Kinsella who had things running very smoothly throughout. Big thank you to all that helped this morning and we look forward to seeing all the stars of our Dixie Dribblers Academy next week.

U11E League Result Mooncoin Celtic 1 Dungarvan United 5

Our u11s played a strong Dungarvan team today with birthday boy cormac captain for the game. The match started frantically with both sides having chances but Dungarvan took theirs and were soon 2 nill up after 10 mins. We made a few changes and steadied the match but conceded just before half time.
We came out fighting in second half and Edmund went on a mazy run beating a couple players before floating the ball in top corner from a distance, we kept pushing forward and had a few chances but were caught on the counter attack and conceded a 4th.
Dungarvan had us on back foot for the last 10 minutes with thomas making some excellent saves but Dungarvan got their 5th.
A first defeat of the season against a more experienced side but an excellent effort by all the team.
Man of the match Edmond
