Dungarvan United 4
A flattering scoreline as this game could well have been a 2-2 draw but credit to Dungarvan who took their chances and punished our mistakes.

Mooncoin Celtic 1
Villa 2
A fantastic performance from our u12 girls against the league leaders Villa last Sunday in Suir Crescent. From the off we put the Villa defence under some pressure scoring the opening goal with a great strike from Aoibhe V. Excellent pressure on the ball in all areas of the pitch had the score at 1-1 at half time. In the second half we passed the ball brilliantly and created numerous chances, with Maria running at their defence time and time again. We were unlucky to concede a second in this half and didn’t deserve to come away with no points.

1B League Result
Waterford Crystal 5
Mooncoin Celtic 0
Our young adult side finished their league campaign with a defeat away to a very good Crystal outfit. Plenty of chances created but unfortunately no finished product while Crystal punished us with clinical finishes.

1st Division Cup Result
Southend United 3
Mooncoin Celtic 2
Best performance of the season by the boys against 1A side Southend who will have aspirations for winning the cup. Kieran Fagan had us 1 up on 15 minutes with an excellent finish but Southend nudged ahead with two good finishes on 25 and 30 minutes. Right on half time, Kieran Fagan equalised with a very tidy finish from a brilliant ball from Ryan Carroll. Disciplined shape and patience was required for the second period but tired legs would catch up with us as Southend got the winner with 10 minutes to go. Proud performance by all 11 on duty who matched the higher league outfit for long periods.

U19 Girls Munster Semi Final Result
Park Rangers 4
Mooncoin Celtic 2
Park Rangers were full value for the win in this one with our girls second best throughout and deservedly head to a Munster Final. The girls did lead 2-1 at one point through Sommer Grant and Emily Blackmore but the girls from Faithlegg powered ahead to earn a place against Holycross in the final. Best of luck to Park Rangers in the Munster Final.

North End 4
After Extra time.
A rip roaring match on a bank holiday Monday saw a very good North End side advance to the last 8. North End took the lead midway through the opening half and this kick started the girls into action with an Emily Blackmore equaliser and from there the girls matched North End all the way. Ella Brennan put us 2-1 up with 20 minutes to go and it looked like we were going through with our defence and Sadhbh Kirwan on goal brilliant throughout but the pressure told with North End scoring with a header from a corner. Extra time was required to separate the girls and the tired legs caught up on our girls as a goal in each half by a very good North End striker saw them advance to the quarter finals. Brilliant advertisement for girls soccer.

U12A League Result

The boys continued their good form with another win, this time away to Carrick in Coolnamuck. Ryan continued his own good spell with a hat trick on the day.

Ryan was again the man to do the business with a last minute header to continue this side’s resurgence in a very competitive league.

Back to winning ways and a very good performance for all on duty with goals from Pete, Shay, Seanie and Billy securing the three points for a team who are finishing the season strongly.

U14B League Result
De la Salle 1
Mooncoin Celtic 3
This side’s good run continued on bank Holiday Monday with an away win in a ground where you get nothing easy. Cathal M got two on the day with James H getting on the scoresheet too. Good three points for the boys.

U10 Girls
Our U10 girls took part in an end of season blitz in Piltown with three other clubs and plenty of exciting talent was on show throughout the day. Big well done to the Waterford Schoolgirls League for organising these blitzes across the day.

Darkness into Light

This coming Saturday, the Darkness into Light walk will be held from 4.30am leaving The Rose of Mooncoin pub car park. The walk is held around the country annually to raise awareness and to remember those that have been lost to suicide, while also raising funds for Pieta House. Please do your very best to support.

U14 League De La Salle 2 Mooncoin Celtic 3

Bank holiday Monday saw the u14 boys travel to De la Salle. An even first half looked like being scoreless until DLS broke and clinically slotted home. Mooncoin lads have plenty of resilience lately and were level early in the second half when Cathal latched on to a good through ball and slotted it past the keeper. More pressure resulted in James scrambling home a cross into the back of the goal from close range. DLS equalised with an unstoppable goal from long range. Heads didn’t drop and we pushed for a winner and Cathal won a penalty in the final minute. He picked himself up to calmly score and make sure this bunch of lads got their first win in Williamstown and deserved 3 points.

U10 Blitz

Last Sunday, our u10s travelled to Highview Athletic in Grauigenamanagh for a tournament in glorious sunshine. Our three teams performed very well with one getting to the Cup semi final and another was beaten in the plate final. All the boys really enjoyed the day and behaviour was impeccable throughout. Big thank you to Paul and all in Highview for their hospitality throughout the day.

U14 League Tramore 1 Mooncoin Celtic 2

After a wet and miserable Thursday, Tramore was the venue for the visit of Mooncoin u14s. Tramore started the brightest and with only 2 minutes on the clock, they scored the opener from distance which left Bradley with no chance. Mooncoin settled and started playing better football. Small tactical change at halftime paid off early in the second half with Cathal curling in his shot to the corner of the goal. He followed that up with a second shortly after with a goal from a free kick outside the box that powered its way through lots of bodies. Very little split the teams for the rest of the match, a slippy ball making control difficult. Mooncoin held on for the deserved win with a great team effort after going behind early on.

Review of the Last Week

Mooncoin Celtic 1
Carrick 2
A great finish from Reuben had the boys one up at half time and they were in confident mood going out in the second half. Two lapses in concentration saw two goals in a few minutes conceded but we still had chances to get level but carrick hung on for the three points.

U11E League Result

Ballinroad 5
A very strong Ballinroad side had way too much for our boys and rattled in early goals to put the game to bed early.

For the second week in a row we faced a bigger Johnville side who dominated throughout. Henry got our goal to continue his good season.

A huge win in their quest for league honours and early goals through Lexi and an OG saw us go in half time on top. A lacklustre second half saw very little goalmouth action but most importantly the three points were secured.

League leaders came to Suir Crescent on Monday evening and a right battle took place between two evenly matched sides. It was ding doing all the way from minute one when Ryan struck right up until Ryan popped up with a last minute winner. Will hammered home a penalty too.

Villa 2
A sloppy first half saw Villa head in 1 up at half time despite us having a few chances but the girls pulled themselves together and second half goals from Emily Blackmore and two from Sarah Walsh secured the three points. Big win again and three games to come in what will be another close run league.

U18 League Mooncoin Celtic 3-2 Villa

The first of the summer sun shone as we took on Villa in the u18s league .
We had spells in the first half where we played very well. However, we rued missed opportunities. Villa scored on the 15 mins mark when we failed to clear a contested ball .
We went in at half time 1-0 down , and the girls took over the half-time talk and discussed how they could improve . We took to the pitch for the second half , determined to play better than we had been and 2 mins in Sarah Walsh finished a good move to make things square and then she was on hand yet again to finish an Ella Brennan corner to the back of the net . Villa continued to pile on the pressure . Hannah Carroll and Sommer Grant battled hard in the middle of the pitch with Molly Long and Ella Brennan working tirelessly on the wing. With 25mins of the 2nd half gone, Emily Blackmore added to our tally when she got free from a tackle and finished to the bottom corner of the net. 12 minutes from the end, Villa struck back to make it 3-2 and set up for a nail biting finish . 5 minutes from time, Villa looked destined to equalise ….. but Abbie Hassett denied their effort with an amazing save .
Well done to the girls , who were rewarded with all three points tonight .
