Best Of Luck Hannah

All in Mooncoin Celtic wish the Waterford Schoolgirls Gaynor Cup squad, Coaches and our own Hannah Dobbyn the very best of luck as the Gaynor Cup kicks off tomorrow in UL in Limerick. This squad have been busy preparing with months and will have high hopes of going far in this prestigious competition.

Inaugural U11 Girls Tournament

What a day to celebrate girls soccer with the hosting of our first U11 Girls Tournament with the Watmór Cup on offer for the winners. 16 teams split in to four groups of 4 teams and 24 group games starting at 9.45 were played out with thrills and spills a plenty. Quarter finals followed with the dreaded penalties coming in to play with Southend and Ferrybank unfortunately exiting the competition in shootouts, Mooncoin Celtic and Ballinroad were also knocked out in the quarter finals. Tipperary outfit Clonmel Town were strong throughout but met a determined Park Rangers out fit in the semi final who met Villa in the final after Villa beat Tramore in the other semi final tie. The Champions League music blared out as both teams entered the pitch and a tense game followed with Villa edging it 2-1 and taking home the Watmór Perpetual Cup. Beatrice Lynch of Park Rangers picked up the player of the tournament award which was kindly Sponsored by Sheridan’s Trophies.
A truly amazing morning to see 160 girls showcasing all that is good about soccer, fun and lots of it.
We have to thank Kilkenny County Council for their help with a Community Event Grant which helped cover the running costs for the day. Also, thanks to Watmór Construction and Civil LTD for their continued support for the club. Thank you must go to all that helped with parking, setting up today and clean up afterwards. No ref…no game, we were very lucky to have four volunteers give their time to make sure it ran smoothly and ref 31 games between them. DJ Scoosh deserves a 👏 for her usual entertainment and of course a wee bit of drama along the way. Thank you to Sonya of Wild Willow Coffee for parking up and ensuring all were catered for on a sunny morning. A final thank you to all participating clubs, their supporters, their coaches and most importantly the young girls who played this morning.
Hope to see you all again next year.

U12 Cup Result
Mooncoin Celtic 2
Dungarvan 1
A tight game with very little between the teams required a second half penalty from Dionos to send them through to the quarter finals. Tom M continued his hot streak with a screamer in the first half.

U12 Cup Quarter final Result

Mooncoin Celtic 2
A tight derby game which thankfully went our way with both goals coming from Tom M.
Sends the squad through to a home Semi final against Carrick United.

U13A Result
Mooncoin Celtic 1
De la Salle 1
Billy opened the scoring with a first half strike and chances came and went before De la Salle equalised. The lads had a late goal disallowed for offside which could have yielded the three points. Improved performance from all the squad.

U13B Result
Mooncoin Celtic 3
Ferrybank 0
A polished performance with second half goals from Dionos, OG and Tyler sees this squad stay top with three games to go. Park Rangers at home next Saturday to come.

1B League Result

Southend 0
League leaders came to Suir Crescent on Sunday morning hoping to extend their winning run but met a stubborn home side. Plenty chances for each team but two solid defences and goalkeepers couldn’t be breached.

U16A Girls Result
Mooncoin Celtic 1
Piltown 4
Title chasing Piltown were the visitors on a sunny afternoon and the girls set their stall out early to contain the dangerous piltown attack. Losing Sophie early on to a broken collar bone did not help things but a penalty was tucked away by Lexi to send us one up. Gaynor cup keeper Hannah then saved a penalty and it looked like the girls would get to half time with the lead but two scrappy goals just before half time undone the hard work. An early goal in the second half killed off the game but the girls persevered and put it up to piltown in a physical battle throughout. A sloppy fourth saw piltown take the three points. Much improved by all the girls on duty.

3B League Result
Mooncoin Celtic 3
Piltown 4
A mad game littered with errors saw piltown take the derby honours. Goals on the night from DT McGrath with a double and James Blackmore weren’t enough unfortunately.

U18 Girls League Result
Carrick United 2
Mooncoin Celtic 1
A winner deep deep in to injury time for Carrick United saw them crowned league champions. The girls gave it their all back and took an early lead through Katelyn Moore but Carrick equalised with a tidy finish on the half hour. Emily was unlucky with an effort with ten minutes remaining before that late finish secured the title for Carrick. Congratulations to Carrick on the league win.

We held our weekly Eastgate Engineering sponsored Dixie Dribblers Academy session in fine weather and also hosted Piltown in u9 games. Congratulations to player of the week winners TJ, Oisin, Jack, Aria and Gianni 🏆⚽️.
