Its a day of good vibes and good wishes and a delight to see so many Mooncoin players involved at a National level and in this case it’s the U16 Inter League Squad who are in a National Final on Sunday v Longford in Cahir.
This photo was taken 3 years ago on the day of our Last Soccer Marathon (a sunny day) and includes Crossbar Challenge winners young Shay Moore and Ted McLoughlin.
Also in the photo is TJ Curran and James Mackey.
Tomorrow these boys will lead our academy boys in the Ferrybank AFC Clover Tournament for U9 boys. 32 teams are entered with Mooncoin Celtic entering 2 teams in what will be an exciting day for all involved.
A stark reality check for our ladies for the level that is required to compete, in what will be a very strong league. A very fit, direct and well drilled Carrick team took no mercy and scored some cracking goals throughout the game. A tough evening at the office and plenty food for thought.
A valiant and ferocious effort put in by this Young Mooncoin team this evening in sunny Tramore.
The work Rate across the board tonight was testimony to the girls and how far they have come . They left every ounce of themselves on the pitch.
We took the lead twice through Sommer Grant , once in the first half and again in the second half . But alas it was not to be , as Park Rangers equalised and nipped the winner with 10 minutes left on the Clock.
Stand out performances in the Mooncoin Jersey tonight were Ciara O Keeffe , Sommer Grant and Niamh Reddy .
Tonight’s game brings the curtains down on what has been a fantastic season for these young ladies .
Match of the Day June 20th is the Girls U17 Cup Final against Park Rangers.
We wish the very best of luck to all the players and coaches involved.
Please note that the venue has been changed to Graun Park, Tramore and that there is a €3 admission charge for adults (even parents of players). Children are free.
A slick looking Benfica team with a wealth of experience took on our new ladies team on the back pitch in the RSC on what was a very hot evening. From the off, our young ladies were pinned back but restricted Benfica to long range shooting and held out until the half hour mark when a dodgy offside was ignored to see Benfica 1 up. The girls settled and battled gamely and went in 1 down at half time.
The second half saw a similar pattern with a couple of early goals coupled with some tired legs of our own, eventually saw Benfica win 5-0.
A baptism of fire for a very young side who finished the game with all girls under the age of 20. They stuck to the game plan of frustrating Benfica and with games coming thick and fast, they will learn very quickly to adapt to the quicker games. Well done ladies, young and old. Big thanks to the large crowd who popped in to support too.
Massive thank you to Graham O’Mahony, Mooncoin Costcutter for his recent kind sponsorship towards treats for our academy kids who finished up for the season last week.
Pictured accepting the sponsorship from Sarah Madden and Jillian Scahill, Mooncoin Costcutter is Kevin Dobbyn, Club Chairperson.
